President Obama came into his presidency with another Great Depression looming on his hands and he has done more than even FDR did in his first 18 months in office without the threat of another World War happening in Europe. President Obama saved millions of jobs by loaning money to GM and Chrysler and it wasn’t a bail-out, and neither was TARP, (and TARP was W’s) but they were all loans and most have been paid back with interest. Every single American received a tax cut, and yeah, maybe it only worked out to 26 bucks per month, but it was a tax break. Yeah, Obama had a mandate and he spent it on Health Care Reform, and do I really need to list the benefits of that? Was it what liberals and progressives wanted? NO, but it is a beginning. What we as Democrats, Progressives and Liberals and Independents and Republicans should be asking is – What the FUCK has happened to the Republican Party? Seriously – the GOP is backing a candidate that appears on TV with an ad that starts off with – “I am not a witch”? Seriously – a GOP candidate in Nevada speaks to a high school Hispanic group in Nevada and says to them that they look more Asian than Hispanic and then declares that she, a white woman, is the first Asian legislator in Nevada? Seriously – there is a GOP candidate in Alaska that has his private security arrest a journalist during a public town hall for asking questions that he did not want to answer? We shouldn’t be focusing on the shortcomings of the Democrats, but focusing on the GOP. What the FUCK has happened to the Republican Party? It’s not the GOP that I knew and hell, I’m a Democrat. We are for the most part a 2-party system and I agree with Jesse Ventura, who ran as an Independent and won the governorship in Minnesota. Did they know? I don’t know. But did they ignore warnings? Definitely yes as Richard Clark wrote a book about it and testified to the 9/11 commission and apologized to the families. We were in France when all the “must go to war” against Iraq was happening, so we only got the European News, and let me tell you, France was against it, as was Italy and Germany. Guess you’d know that, as that was the time that Congress declared no more French fries but Freedom Fries. It was very embarrassing being an American living in Paris at that time and we started saying “Je suis Canadien” because to be an American in France at that time was so much not a good thing. I’ve got to hand it to the French that they never blamed Americans, but rather the American government. Back in them days, there was not the anti-Muslim that’s all the rage now. I do know that France is now on a mission in deporting Gypsies or Romanians and banning the burkha and if you’ve ever lived in France, which is the most purist of socialism, even though it’s not pure, and the French want Socialism. I’ve also lived in Montreal, but only for 3 months, but let me tell you, if any country has a problem with Muslims or Mexicans, it’s Canada. They have some sort of law protecting “the rights of man”, and so Muslims that work are allotted 3 times every day for them to lay down their rugs and pray to whoever they pray to, and the illegals, the Mexicans that work there are welcome and then when they go back to Mexico they can collect unemployment. I don’t know anything about Islam, but do not think that’s a friendly religion, but then again, what religion is? I wish so much that Mohammad Ali was still cognizant enough to come out and calm folks. People fear the unknown and it would be a wonderful thing if famous people who are Muslim would come out and tell people that there is nothing to fear. » Posted By javaz On October 15, 2010 @ 5:38 pm On the weekends, we walk with a neighbor and his dogs, and no matter the topic, and I mean, whether it’s the weather or something related to health and just me asking how his mother’s doing, since she had her entire colon removed, he can whip out them bible verses. We try very hard to stay away from any substantive conversation, because when it comes to politics, he just quotes the bible and really, that bible quoting does impress me mightily. I’ve only gotten into it with him once and I do regret it, because no one wins an argument, and it just ended up making me feel bad in more than one way. It was when he said, with the proper bible quotes, that all gays were going to hell, but the people, like the Phelps people who protest soldiers’ funerals, they are going to a worse hell, and he spouted several biblical passages to back him up. He went into the thing about loving the sinner but hating the sin and I lost it. I have or had 2 gay brothers, but have lost one, so am now down to one gay brother and I absolutely refuse to believe that gay people are going to hell. I tried telling him that people are born gay, but NO, it’s some bible quote that proves that gays choose their life-style. He listens to some religious station all day long and he is always trying to warn us about the “End Of Times” and how the signs are all right in our faces, and we must accept Jesus Christ into our lives as our Savior and blah, blah, blah, blah. My husband is much more intelligent than I and he’s much more easy-going and much more diplomatic when dealing with people. I’m an outspoken person, whereby people know how I feel about things, and I really do not take any shit, and believe me, that’s taken me years to stand up and not suffer those I consider fools. I might have gone over board on being outspoken and I am trying to tame that back. I used to be a meek person and let people walk all over me, but at my age now, I really do not give a crap and I speak my mind, but I am trying very hard to be more like my husband. My husband and I are both Catholics, but lapsed, and lapsed is not even the correct word – we’re done with organized religion. My husband was an altar boy and attended catechism classes and his uncle is a priest, and he married us – and on a side note – we are the only people in the family that his uncle married and it was an emotional wedding. We’d been lapsed but we went back to the church to give it another try. I went to Catholic school for 12 years, and Catholics do not actually do the bible thing, as evangelicals and baptists do. The neighbor thinks we are heathens or something, and a couple weeks after my blow-up, he finally walked with us again, and wouldn’t you know it? He gave us a thin book that he ordered off the radio station he listens to, because he’s intent on saving our souls. Okay, he’s really on a mission to save my soul. I did follow my husband’s advice and kept my lip zipped, and my husband, who is a very kind man, actually read the booklet. It’s a booklet thing that can be read in a half-hour and it’s all about why people should believe the bible in the first part, and my husband was okay with that part, but the second part was the guy writing about how people should never choose a religion because it makes them feel good and then my husband quit reading it. I’ve read the bible from cover to cover years ago, but skipped the begotten part, because really, who can follow all the begottens? I used to struggle with religion, but have grown so sick and tired of religion, especially in our politics, that I hate all religion, yet still consider myself a spiritual person and believe in God and I do believe that a man or prophet named Jesus Christ existed. Last summer, friends of my husband’s came over from his hippy days and living on a commune in Oregon came over, and they are right-wingers now and I held my tongue then, as did my husband. We dodged politics as much as we could, because they were intent on talking about it, but then we actually got into Christ and I asked them if they believed in a Virgin birth. Now, even my husband is proud of me, because I sat there and listened to the guy explain how a virgin birth is possible, because he had prostate cancer and he researched that and he discovered that yes, a virgin birth is very possible. I’ll just say that I started drinking lots of wine that night and I am not a big wine drinker. The grossest thing about that was, the spit from customers – how the spittle would smack on the glass – EEWWW. I am OCD on the cleaning thing, and I’ve got to say that I was glad that there was protection from the spit! LMAO It was rather gross and I was not a team player when I worked there. I had worked at K-Mart, but in the office, and handled a great deal of cash, so counting money and the “new” computers never fazed me. I never held a ‘slush fund’ as a lot of tellers did, and except for young teens they hired to tally our checks, I always balanced my till. I wasn’t scared of handling money and could count out money, three times, because twice wasn’t enough, but I did it so rapidly that the bank made me “Assistant General Teller”, and that caused me a lot of problems because so many of the tellers had been there for years and they coveted that position. Then there was a teller that was short 3,000 dollars, and I had the keys to the vault and all the tellers’ cages, and then the FBI came in, and for $2.10 per hour, and they asked me if I took the money, well, that was just too much for a nickle raise. And when I quit, they said to me – “After all we’ve done for you” – whereby I said “YES, for a nickle an hour? And after all I’ve done for you”? I used to be in charge of opening the bank on Saturdays for the drive-in, and I was only 19 years old! It was just too much for so little pay – but I will never forget a doctor that slipped me 5 dollars for a tip one Christmas inside a card. I know what it’s like to work for a bank, but as a lowly teller, and nowhere as ‘scary’ as your job, even though there were some fairly scary episodes of criminals trying to cash checks that were stolen. Heck, when I was a teller in Detroit, there was also a touch of the “mob” and that got personal, and somehow in my 19 year old brain, I managed to circumvent any dealings. Back then, I was making $2.10 an hour, and after one year and the bank gave me what they considered a raise of 5 cents per hour, I pretty much told them where they could stick that and quit. I’ll bet you dimes to donuts that you were paid meagerly, too, for all the shit you had to put up with, and what you did while working at the bank, you would have made enemies. And folks wonder why there’s so much corruption. De-regulation in corporations and banks leaves the “little people”, poorly paid people for what they must deal with, well, it’s easy to understand how the employee looks the other way. It’s a dog-eat-dog world. I commend you for standing up and being courageous and I mean that, being courageous in the face of danger for shit hours and shit pay. But I think that that is true, because being in Arizona since 1984, Barry Goldwater was still alive, and even though he was considered a nutcase when he ran for president in the 1960’s, and was known as “Mr. Conservative”, he really disliked Reagan. Goldwater predicted during that time, that there would come a day when even Goldwater would be considered a “liberal”. And Goldwater’s prediction has come to fruition and he mellowed over the years, or else we – meaning those of us who consider ourselves liberal in Arizona – Barry made sense and he became a ‘moderate’ voice. Goldwater truly hated that Reagan sold the GOP to the religious right. Compared to Goldwater in the ’60’s when he was regarded as too extreme to the right, and to today, Goldwater became known as a voice of reason. I wonder if it’s all one of them things, whereby the country keeps going to the right in slow increments and now liberal or progressive doesn’t mean what it did back in the ‘good old days’. Socialism is what caused the downfall of America. We are a country founded on Christian beliefs, and freedom of religion, which does not mean freedom from religion. Free markets means let freedom ring. There is no such thing as Social Security or Medicare. as those are socialist ideals, nor is there any help for the poor, and that means no Medicaid or Food Stamps. Personal Responsibly is my motto. I am a Christian, but unwilling to help the poor and the sick. Family Values is where it’s at, and a woman knowing their place, and if a woman is raped and bares a child, that is God’s will. The article interviewed a few attorneys familiar with the DOJ and Civil Rights cases, and they agree that Arpaio doesn’t stand much of a chance in fighting the lawsuit and he’s already cost the county taxpayers $3.2 Million in attorney fees, audits and other expenses related to the dispute. The county supervisors and other officials in the county are urging Sheriff Joe to turn over all the documents that the DOJ have requested. The DOJ controls the investigation because the Federal Gov’t funds certain programs in the county and the county must follow Federal guidelines and be within the law to collect.
