I just want the rich to pay their fair share in taxes and not be able to use loopholes in the tax laws or off-shore accounts to avoid paying taxes. I’ll never forget Leona Helmsley – “Taxes are for the little people.” I also despise the rich for their belief that they deserve ‘entitlements’ as in the form of free stuff such as free 2000 dollar shoes or free designer/haute couture fashions, because they are rich and seen gallivanting about, so they should get free stuff as to help advertise the merchandise. But besides that, there are rich people that believe they shouldn’t have to pay for expensive meals or even Starbuck’s coffee. Or when in airports that certain wealthy individuals are whisked from waiting in TSA lines and escorted onto the plane and served champagne while the remaining paying customers must go through security. I get that the rich have many privileges over the rest of us, and that’s fine, but when lawmakers tell us that it’s time for us all to make sacrifices that should also include the rich! I don’t understand much about politics but it does seem that politics has changed a great deal since I began voting and paying attention in the ’70s. I do understand President Obama’s frustration and anger. I really cannot see that Obama had any other choice right now in not making the concession on the tax cuts for the rich to save UI for millions of Americans and to continue the tax cuts for the middle class and the extension of the child benefit. I am nervous about the 2% payroll tax holiday, even though it supposedly will not effect Social Security but rather transfer funds from the General Fund. President Obama has promised not to privatize Social Security, but with Dick Durbin, of all people, saying that he was open to the Cat Food Commission’s Social Security and Medicare recommendations – is disturbing. President Obama does not receive credit for passing Health Care Reform, as he so passionately stated in the news conference, and it is understandable that Republicans would criticize the policy, but perplexing that liberals/progressives join the criticism, even though the reasons are different. President Obama does not get credit for saving millions of American jobs in the automotive industry, but the very same corporations funneled money into the last mid-term election to elect the Republicans that were and still are against the GM and Chrysler bailout because it’s ‘socialism’. Historically, I do think that Democratic Presidents have always been given a hard time, to say the least, by the Corporate-owned-Republicans, but when it comes to President Obama, the discourse runs much deeper. When certain Republicans and Republican pundits say that President Obama has set race relations back 30 years in this country, it’s the typical Rove politics of accusing others of what they are guilty of doing. And I agree that racism is prevalent on both sides of the aisle and it is time for each and everyone of us to ask ourselves where the harsh criticisms of Obama is coming from – it’s hard to admit prejudice is at the core. I still support President Obama and believe that he is a very intelligent man and that he’s certainly much smarter than I’ll ever be. I remember her asking why anyone would want to kill a Beatle yet alone John Lennon.
Politicians no longer work together for their constituents and the good of the country, but work continually for the next election.
The anger radiating from the left/liberals/progressives is disheartening, especially noticeable since yesterday and the “deal with the devil”.
I couldn’t live with constant criticism or such hate on a daily basis.
I’ve never seen such negativity directed at those commenting on many left-wing blogs.
President Obama is a politician and he definitely understands politics better than I do.
And all through the House,
John Boehner was crying,
Because he missed golf.
And Boehner in charge,
Golf games are no longer,
But he can still visit bars.
And orders a drink,
The tears run unchecked,
Because his skin’s turning pink.
Dash it away,
Being Speaker of the House,
Means all work and no play.
Working as a common man,
But now Boehner’s crying,
“I’m losing my tan!”
One person did express concern over the safety of the ex-rays though, as they fly multiple times per week.
What happens when someone hides contraband inside a body part?
