Sarah Palin Watch: The Death of Death Panels

Great piece! Thanks so much.

One of the forgotten problems of the Advance Directive is that when the HIPAA regs were updated in 2003, they complicated many ADs in place prior to then.

The non-disclosure rules of the HIPAA law as it pertains to your Private Health Information and your medical power of attorney and/or AD may be in conflict.

If your AD was set up prior to 2003, you might want to update it. A HIPAA release form may be neccessary for your loved ones to obtain medical information from a hospital or medical provider to direct your course of care.

An Avatar by Any Other Name

I never knew the story behind that. Thanks so much.

Sounds like good times…. 🙁

Thanks! I think it might be time for a change.

My wife made it for me. Number 1,643 on the list of things she is better than me at.

I got my name from a cool online random rock-band name generator site.

I haven’t been able to find it since then.

I regretted choosing almost immediately as it was about the time that the Irish sociopath went nuclear.

Took awhile for some people to warm up to me after that.

@Termgirl thanks for clearing up the meaning of your previous monikor. I had always wondered. I think you shall be Termgirl to me for always. It’s too cool of a name not to use.

Dey, great post. My wife originally turned me onto the site after she had been posting there for a while. She long ago tired of the metamorphasis and doesn’t post there much at all anymore. I like you tried it out in small batches, but soon found myself hooked.

I found that how my mind works translates well to the rapid-fire threads.

I publicly signed off under my former name MendozaLine last year, vowing to take a looooong break. Several days later to my embarassment, I was back. I created this new sock so I could join the fray again.

Disenchanted/heartened I was invited to the Planet. What a fabulous place. It will take some adjustment, and I still post over at HP, because it fits in my work schedule. I’m self-employed and so busy that my brain is a bit too fried these days to write more than a few lines.

I also need to polish my writing skills. It’s something I’ve always wanted to improve, and some of the people on this site serve as a reminder of how far I have to go.

Still, I am slowly transitioning. Both of my accounts are still active because I anticipate one of the them going out with a bang soon.

Great to see you here and I look forward to knowing you better.

Tenderfoot No More

Wolf, this brought back a lot of interesting memories.

I grew up next door to an Eagle Scout.

He was my friend all through grade school, but as we moved on to middle school and then high school our paths diverged.

He became an Eagle Scout, he grew into a tall, broad-shouldered, blond, steely-eyed, church-goin’ type who was equally popular with the ladies as he was with the community leaders of our small town.

I was tall.

My one saving grace is that the further he followed that path, the more suspicious of him my parents became, until I was no longer allowed to hang out with him.

LOL they sure were cool. Thanks for the great story.

The Deficit of Truth About Obama’s Budget

We can have empire or home town, not both.

At some point we have to choose.

Budget, Deficits, the Debt and the lies from the right

I heart JKG. He is a tremedous voice in the wilderness.

Revenues have dropped only 5 times since 1950.

Each time on the backs of a recession. Tax policy and budgetary policy have less and less to do with the deficit each passing year.

The economy and to a lesser degree the trade deficit more and more.

ALL the attention should be on goosing the economy. Tax cuts and credits are nice, but when your tax BASE is being hollowed out, the impact is felt less and less.

We have shipped 3.5 MILLION production and professional service positions overseas between 2000 and 2009. 2010 it is estimated to add another 500,000 to this number.

Our economy is being dismantled and outsourced. The people working these jobs used to spend money and pay taxes on a state and federal level.

If even HALF of these jobs came home what impact would that have?

The American people have Spoken … Maybe

91% of voters under 30 in my state stayed home in 2010. Unbelievable.

An HP Moderator Replies

Cher, Thom Hartmann has commented many times about touring a right-wing think tank and seeing dozens of cubicles filled with interns busily “updating” Wikipedia and other internet-based information.

There is no reason to believe that these posters are not those same interns.

LOL: I just had to share this Coinyer classic:

“The middle way is no way at all. If we fail in this great and glorious contest, it will be from endlessly searching for change in the middle.”~ [I thought this was a John Adams quote for a long time, but, was informed I was wrong, so maybe I just made it up while smokin’ some awesome weed. I dunno…..,]
