What Would FDR Have Done?

I disagree that he has “let” that notion become conventional wisdom. All of the trips, every freaking day there was a press release about the Stimulus, that was ignored by the media, and clearly many supporters.
WTF do you people want? Do your homework. The corporate media is NOT going to tell us ANYTHING. Get off your asses and help us. And go to http://www.whatisworking.com Go to http://www.whitehouse.gov If you care about anything progressive, inform yourself and stop listening to pundits. Obama has been SHUT out, as have Dems from the MSM. It takes effort to stay informed.
The RW will take over if this continues. Reinforcing negative memes is how we lost in 2010.

WATCH LIVE: Pres. Obama’s Speech on Afghanistan

10,000 starting this summer. Sorry it amazed me that people would comment without actually listening to the speech.

What strikes me as bizarre is that Democrats are using his foreign policy successes as a reason for turning against his Afghanistan policy. They’re saying that because he got Bin Laden and because he’s been so successful at decimating Al Qaeda that he deserves less support as Commander-in-Chief.

Well, for me it’s just the opposite. Because he’s demonstrated such extraordinary success in decimating Al Qaeda, I now support his policy in Afghanistan more strongly than I did before!!

A Message to Progressives: Lily Ledbetter’s What Democrats Are All About

Marion,
I have been lurking here for some time but have not commented. Excellent piece. I am so happy that the real progressives are pushing back against the “crazy.” I have been watching in horror as these folks with loud megaphones stole the narrative about this Presidency, and the corporate media ran with it, gleefully. I am an arts educator in Pennsylvania that is feeling the real pain of the election of 2010. Our GOP Governor is just as bought and paid for as Scott Walker, but as of yet is getting away with it. I stood helpless as the folks that actively volunteered in 2008 went happily to DC for the John Stewart “show,” leaving few of us left to fend for ourselves in our GOTV efforts. These clueless political neophites thought that Obama would somehow conquer all corporate interests, and every Republican, and every narrow minded right winger with his intellect, good looks and charisma, all by himself. They would just go away. They didn’t listen to the “this is just the beginning message” in Grant Park.
The only good thing to come out of this Netroots thing is they have been “outed” and we now have to ignore them and keep pressing on. They are irrelevant.
Thanks again.

Joan Walsh: Twisted Sister Punches Down

Marion,
This is hard to believe, but I had a similar email exchange with Joan after her appearance on Countdown last week. We exchanged 5 or 6 emails each in a very short period of time, about an hour. I called her out for her distortions of the President’s record. I called her out about her true allegiances. I explained that I am a teacher in PA and how I am currently suffering in my job because we have a GOP governor who is following the same playbook as the other GOP governors.I told her that the efforts of left leaning pundits on TV had a lot to do with depressing the Democratic vote. She said “its tough for me too right now”. Yeah sure. At any rate, my rants were not nearly as good as yours, but her replies were just as defensive and down right mean. She is vile, and what these people are doing is vile, and we should not let up.

Thanks for posting this. You rock!

DON’T PANIC … It’s Just the C I A.

When I saw those blaring headlines last night about the CIA my immediate thought was “duh.” I think if the CIA WEREN”T there I would be more concerned.

Obama might very well have released this just to watch the “silly shit storm” that so predictably, and quickly followed.

Stupidity, the housing bubble and racism

Great rant, and I agree with you 100%. While I don’t live in the south, I do live in deep red PA (part of the so-called “T”). Racism is rampant here, (I am not a native) as I found out in 2008 making calls for Obama. Really ugly, and sadly getting worse since then. These folks seem to have been empowered by Fox News and RW radio, and the mainstream media as well. Somehow making a racist joke about POTUS is tolerated in some circles these days, when just 3 or 4 years ago it wouldn’t have been.
The southern strategy is alive and well and is at work right now in these parts. It hurts everyone, especially the kids.
What do we do? The only answer I have right now is call it out loud and often whenever I encounter it. I don’t give hoot about being accused of playing the race card anymore. We do need some national “movement” or discussion about this though.

We Are Aiding and Abetting the Republicans

Thank YOU!!!!! This whole situation has made me sick to my stomach from the early days of this Presidency in 2009. I have listened carefully to everything this President has said, not because I am some kind of freak, but because of the distortion of the media…ALL MEDIA! I implicitly trust him. But mind you, I spend way too much time finding out the FACTS. Every freaking thing that he has done has made sense to me, given the specifics and environment of every decision. He makes so much sense, and this distortion from the LEFT Fox News style is just disgusting. I have given up watching cable TV, but did see how all of these false narratives made their way into the minds of the electorate to depress the vote in 2010. Run of the mill Democrats are just as misinformed as Republicans. Believe me, I talk to them all the time, and hear bits and pieces of Ed Schultz and Arianna distortions in their assessments of the President.

Sarah Palin Watch: The Death of Death Panels

To me there is something so inherently evil about SP, and yes, this “retorical terrorist” description is perfect. The bread and butter of Republican politics is class warfare and scapegoating, just like Al Queda. And Sarah Palin is their preferred method of delivery because the media will print and repeat everything she says.
Sad times.

Invite For collaboration

Yes yes yes! “Her goal was to infiltrate the left..” Exactly. And I do not think she acted alone.
I think she would sell out her own children for a buck. She has proved herself to be totally without morals and ethics.
I saw all of this divide and conquer stuff happening almost from the beginning in 2009, and felt helpless in stopping it! I can remember sending an email to Jason L. commenting on the lack of facts and reason in an article that he wrote, and I received the nastiest, ugliest reply you could imagine. I was banned multiple times for pointing out editorial hipocrisy. Her narrative was everywhere on the “left,” MSNBC, DKOS, CNN, Bill Mayer. To hear Prof. West spout some of her talking points on NPR makes my blood BOIL.

I totally despise her.

The Deficit of Truth About Obama’s Budget

Maybe…but the problem is the corporate media (including Huffington Post and MSNBC) who pretend to be progressive FOCUS on these things and exclude anything that might bring TRUTH to the discusion. Thus the attitude that “there is no difference between the parties.” This is exactly what the Republicans want you to think. And many are all too willing to fault our guy first, rather than thinking about the political realities or really take a good hard look at what the Republican are really doing. In truth the Republicans want to freaking KILL us! Wake up!

Random Thougts

KQUARK,
I agree that the problem is greed. I think that most Americans have come to realize this but many get confused by propaganda from the right that points fingers consistently at the government. I was also “amused” by some on the left chastising Obama for speaking to the COC. He articulated well I think, this basic tenet of fiduciary responsibility in this speech. He challenged them morally. Did anyone on either side of the political spectrum “hear” his words?

Obama: Culture Warrior?

Did you folks listen/watch Obama’s weekly addresses? I have. Religiously. As all of these fights were taking place, especially financial reform, he HAMMERED congress for the influence of lobbyists on legislation. I heard it with my own ears. Why did those statements not make it out into the political conversation? Answer: they were overwhelmed with all of the yelling taking place on the MSM. Were some of the people holding up stronger legislation Dems? Absolutely. One factor that many forget is that he has not had the support of his party that WE expected. Just consider congress’ response to closing GITMO. RW talking points have percolating throughout the political conversation for two years, unabated. I was always shocked to hear them repeated by Dem lawmakers. Every time he tried to get things back on track, there was the corporate media drowning out his message. Arianna Huffington did NOT help. She did real damage to Obama in the first two years by dividing his base. I even hear echoes of her “talking points” right here on this blog as I read comments.
Bottom line, we have to do the work. He can’t do it alone. He will have to choose his battles, just like most of us do everyday. Sounds simplistic, but it is true.
To focus only on his perceived shortcomings we will lose. And that is the naked truth.

Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

Hi there! Long time “lurker” here but I just had to respond. I was banned at HP early in 2010 for calling out AH on her duplicity in numerous comment threads. I guess subconsiously I wanted it to happen. At any rate, to answer your question about “why” she did what she did after the 2008 elction, my humble opinion is that she was indeed given $$ to trash Obama “from the left” and divide Democrats, expecially the netroots. She did not care what the ramifications were. I think she was
(I hope temporarily) successful. I utterly despise her. More than the Koch Brothers. More than the C of C. That so many actually believe(d) her is really depressing.
