Elizabeth Warren Goes to Washington

Egos, what a crock. Everyone is more concerned about beating around the bush, hiding in the shadows, for fear of offending one of the Yahoos who hasn’t accomplished a darn thing. It never ceases to amaze me how many of these “elected” men and women are more concerned with stepping on toes and corporate funding, rather than representing their constituents.

Jeeze, it isn’t rocket science. I would give anything to have a beer with the President.

Kirk-

If you want to get in touch with any of us, just filter it through our honorable and esteemed leader and Admin. — AdLib. Nothing personal, but it saves all (including yours) of our behinds and eliminates a plethora of headaches. We’re tight knit, we tend to be over protective of one another, keeping a watchful eye.

As kes said none of us are Weebles, but our dear AdLib ensures none of us fall down.

Right Sheriff?

Jeeze, you PST folks and those West of the Mississippi — are killin’ those of us on EST. πŸ˜†

“I’m in, but don’t work from home. 8am-5pm M-F. Hate to be a party pooper, but because of the time difference, Friday nights (conflicts with Vox Populi) , Saturdays anytime, and Sundays during the day work for me. However, I will go with the majority. πŸ™‚

…and behind the curtain is…?

» Posted By boomer1949 On January 24, 2010 @ 7:27 pm

Thank you bito, I’m flattered.

I guess I would be the human side of the whole thing…I’m not a theory person. My input would be personal, just a Mom watching her kid connect year after year with 5-6 year olds, living in conditions one would not wish on his worst enemy. Worrying because some show up at school in the AM having had no breakfast, much less dinner the night before.

Yet, she realizes up and coming educators are not receiving the hands on experience they need to function in a classroom. No book can teach “how to deal with a child whose parents are too stoned to get up in the morning to make sure little “Zoey” makes the bus or skipping parent-teacher conferences”.

Teaching is one of those professions where one MUST want to be there, day in and day out. And, while it isn’t a requirement, an educator must want to effect change in a child. Yet, we continue to link performance with f’n test scores. Why?

I would like to see how long any, and I mean any, of the “test score advocates” would last in a classroom. One cannot sit behind a desk and look at a spreadsheet and have a clue. It’s like having a brain surgeon determine the qualifications for a police officer and vice versa.

An educator is a parallel to kesmarn and all dedicated health care professionals. Both professions are working to save lives — both little people and grownups. Although the circumstances may be different, the end result is the same.

Both professions want their charges to survive and make it in the world.

Hello again Kirk,

My daughter is in her sixth year of teaching – Kindergarten – in a small school district in NW Ohio. She will complete her Masters and graduate in June. S

She has focused her entire career on Literacy and, at some point, wants to earn her PHD. Her motivation? She does not believe higher education addresses what is going on in the real world when it comes to educating our kids. Theory is theory and pales in comparison to hands on experience in the classroom.

On one hand I understand, yet on the other, she is a fabulous educator. Her Kindergartners (and their parents) love her.

So, who should benefit from her ability Kindergartners or future educators?

Offering for the Friday Music Thread

Welcome Kirk,

This is the coolest place on the Planet (no pun intended). You will find this a warm and accepting environment, AND if you aren’t around for a few days someone will surely notice.

Once again — welcome!! πŸ™‚

Vox Populi AfterChat – 1-22-10

Ah, you were duped by the “magic” bean theory. Unless you’re a little kid, “magic” beans don’t work and neither does faierie dust or magic wands.

So smartie, my Snuggie is pink, how ’bout yours?

» Posted By boomer1949 On January 22, 2010 @ 11:08 pm

I had to look again E’cat, but you’re absolutely correct. What a hoot! Not you, but the diaphragm.

Flying Lotus,

Me too. And, to a degree, I must admit I’m right there with you.

KQ-
All of them. Why? Because McCain isn’t African-American.
These guys are against anything, and I mean anything proposed by this administration. And, if the truth be known, 99.9% of them agree with policy, but would never, ever step up to the plate. Why? Because their constituents would “seek & destroy” their careers.

Amazing how none of these guys (WHITE guys) only have balls when they are paid for them. Ouch. Isn’t that Prostitution? And all they ever do is throw the women in jail.

Year ago, I could go to sleep at 4 am, get up and be at work by 7am, have bacon, eggs, coffee, & juice feel 1,000% and turn around and do it again.

Jezze — part of me feels the same — yet it takes longer to recover. I guess that’s the key. The longer it takes to recover, the older you are. πŸ™‚

» Posted By boomer1949 On January 22, 2010 @ 10:36 pm

Uh, huh…tell ’em how much you pay me just to say “we have to like you.” Do you know what time it is here? Jeeze you’re keeping me up way past my jammies, it’s time to go to sleep time.

Just pretend…just for a nano-second…you’re functioning three, let me repeat, three hours, past your current time. Duh!

Of course you are much younger than I and don’t require a Snuggie to watch television or fall asleep.

» Posted By boomer1949 On January 22, 2010 @ 10:25 pm

oh khirad,

haven’t done that in years…of course it will be 5:00 pm somewhere. Maybe I’ll just pretend I’m meeting Kalima & WhatThatSound for Happy Hour in Tokyo, eh?

» Posted By boomer1949 On January 22, 2010 @ 10:13 pm

WooHoo, bow, bow, applause…and you’ll let all of us know when it goes print right? See? There are others who get it besides all the Perfect Planeteer family (we just have to say we like you) πŸ™‚ Mr. Wund is an objective POV…go figure πŸ™‚

» Posted By boomer1949 On January 22, 2010 @ 10:09 pm

Nah, I had to pay for it, but it is payday and it is Friday, and (okay Saturday), and I can get up whenever I want or at least until the cats have waited long enough for what they perceive to be breakfast.

I know and she is 10+ years older. Imagine that. Loved the teeny bopper version, but this latest is beyond comparison…

So, I tried this before and will try this again. No political chat importance, not a continuation o VP, just an extension of the Merlot and the fact it is 12:35 am EST (and waaaay past the amount of information my brain is able to handle in a 24 hour period of time). πŸ™‚ Night all…and what a difference 10+ years makes…for each of us:

Thank you all…

oh nellie,

I worked at Macy’s for almost 5 years — full time no less, but even at $10/hr, it was beyond demeaning. I still find myself wanting to clean out fitting rooms — literally and figuratively. Retail stinks, especially there. I made it “out” so to speak, but they do treat their employees poorlt.

TRP-

Please, you can’t just fall off The Planet. I’m with kesmarn, there are too many of us who have come to admire you, look forward to your posts, and just enjoy hanging out with you.

Promise you will make every effort to show up here; there’s always the library? I am not sure what your next steps are, but you must find a way to take one day at a time.
