I really mean that. » Posted By abby4ever On January 2, 2010 @ 12:53 am Yes you are, Pepe, and here it comes. Compare: “Astronomers and cosmologists know that dark matter exists but as yet do not know what it is composed of, or how much of it there actually is…” “Theologians and lesser Christians know that God exists but as yet do not know what He is composed of, or how much of Him there actually is…” Sorry, I just couldn’t resist! :] » Posted By abby4ever On January 2, 2010 @ 12:31 am …Their wonders to perform… (William Cowper, Jr.) » Posted By abby4ever On January 2, 2010 @ 12:24 am From AstronomyToday: http://www.astronomytoday.com/cosmology/darkmatter.html “Dark matter is non-luminous matter, that cannot be directly detected by observing any form of electromagnetic radiation (light), but whose existence is suggested because of the effects of its gravity on the rotation rate of galaxies and the presence of clusters of galaxies… “Astronomers and cosmologists know that dark matter exists but as yet do not know what it is composed of, or how much of it there actually is…” Ok. on the one hand, its existence is only suggested; on the other, it is known. (To exist.) Make up your mind. I don’t mean you Patsy, I mean the guy who wrote this. This is early-stage theory, and, like all early-stage theories, it may or may or may not be true. » Posted By abby4ever On January 2, 2010 @ 12:14 am You won’t know if it makes you either one until you define ‘God Particle’. You have to know what that is, or is supposed to be, before you can decide. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 11:58 pm LOL !!! ‘Morning, Pepe. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 11:52 pm What a neat way of putting it. Pablum. Pablum Physics. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 11:51 pm Wish I understood what you guys are talking about. (I always perk up when I see the word or name ‘God’.) If I tried to join in I would not know what I am talking about. I’m on another topic with Emerald…although, to be honest, I don’t know what I’m talking about with that , either. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 11:48 pm New Year’s Day Ushers in Marriage Equality That is just like you. Scher, I can’t find your other new article ‘A Warning About Trolls’ on my PlanetPov page. It must be an article because it’s in blue text on Dashboard and you state the above as a title. I bet it’s that blasted poltergeist again. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 1:04 pm Scher: thanks for this celebratory (though in an understated way) article and the terrific links. I don’t know much about this issue. Now I can learn more. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 12:33 pm DNC Moving to Eliminate the Power of the Super Delegates You aren’t alone. I never did get the superdelegate thing. There ought to be a law that states that any party political concept that can’t be fully grasped within five minutes, and by anybody at all, must be thrown out. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 3:15 pm Is Keven talking about this: The current proposal would not actually do away with the SD » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 3:00 pm KQ: I hope you didn’t take my last post to you in a wrong way. Sometimes my sense of humour gets me in hot water. I put it in the particular way I did, all to let you know that I appreciate how you watch over us…all of us. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 3:22 pm boomer: my pc won’t let me access this, embedding has been disabled, it says, this by request. Well, it wasn’t me! Nor will it take me to YouTube when I click that . » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 2:16 pm Abby’s chest puffs out at this news: one of the founders of this site, has her back. Hardly chickenfeed. What could ever go wrong for her now? Just horsing around, KQ, I am playful today… and I hope my being so doesn’t paint me as unappreciative. I need someone at my back because, as you well know, I am always screwing something up. Anyway, thank you. Unrelated question: are you still feeling poorly? » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 2:09 pm My parents are big ABBA fans, my sisters and brother and myself) grew up listening to ABBA day and night…well, almost. And ABBA is one thing I do agree with my parents about. In my view, they are beyond brilliant. Each song is so different from every other song, and further, there is something about each song that, for the listener, makes it not just a song but a kind of life-changing experience, if I might borrow that expression. (That expression overdescribes it a little, of course; but I can’t find another one that gets any closer to what I mean, so I let that one suffice. I have to, because what I mean fights language.) » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 1:55 pm Kiwi! Everyone: the little chicken in my avatar is called Kiwi because of this video, Scher posted it for me about a month ago. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 1:48 pm KQ: are you the one that inserted the ABBA song video in my ABBA post? Or does it just happen automatically when the poster doesn’t do it himself, by means of some kind of software installed on this site? If not and if it was you, thank you very much. If it was not you but someone else, again, my thanks. abby » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 1:44 pm The pie is just now cooling. Apple, Granny Smith, with a quite buttery crust. Smells nice. About a half a pint of cream on top of a piece, should do it. (My husband will put custard on his, he is soooooo British.) You didn’t insert the video for me? Who did? (Whoever did it, my thanks!) » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 12:55 pm Hopeington: thank you so much for inserting the ABBA video and telling me how to it. That’s neat! And I didn’t think you were saying anything derogatory about my comment, with your use of ‘rambling’. Not at all. I was making a little joke. Humour aside, I do sometimes tend to ramble, you see. I work on it but progress has been slow. :] » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 12:43 pm ABBA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naL6I8JLbig Promo, long version, ‘Gimme, Gimme…’ I just love the drum solo in this song, it’s so NOT over the top, so NOT show-offy. Something about it makes me feel kind of drugged. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 12:19 pm And I have to bake that pie. See you back here in about an hour, Emerald. I will be back before then; you, you have one hour to get your house cleaned up. You bring a lot of joy to these threads; it is, in part, your positive attitude that makes it that way. One hour. :] » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 10:21 am Thank you so much for your kind words about my reply to Ad Lib’s post. I did think about making it into an article, after I posted it; but it was too late by then. I don’t think we can switch around, i.e. take a reply we’ve done and redo it as an article. Even if we can, there’s no real need: it can be read as easily as a comment as it can an article. The important thing was that I got to say it, for I meant every word. I hope the New Year brings you peace and joy, Emerald. (See Mogamboguru’s Happy New Year article, comment section, for how our turkey turned out. What a disaster. Hope yours was better.) » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 9:29 am Thanks, Hopeington. I think. I am trying to learn to not just ramble…heh. Wishing you..and all here…a joyous New Year. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 1:50 am Even though I’ve only been at Planet a little over 10 days and subsequently have contributed virtually nothing to this place, I feel a sense of pride in reading these stats, pride in being invited here by two fine posters (who may already be regretting their invitation, ha!) and pride in being here, in being on a site that has had such success in such a short period of time. The good stats do not surprise me, for at Planet I’ve seen some great topics written by some great writers, all this topped off by some great responses, three elements that are essential to gaining, and holding, the attention of those visiting the site. I’ve never been able to decide which of these is the most important: expressing one’s thoughts with as much courage and honesty as one can muster, or provoking thought (ideally, deep thought) in others, even those who have never been much on mulling over the difficult political (or quasi-political, or even the only-just-barely political) concept. Of course, it is in being honest and brave in expressing our thoughts, arguments, and personal positions, and devil take any heat we might take for doing so, that we have the best chance of provoking thought in others, thought that may end up hidden away in a diary or, instead, end up changing the world. Or something inbetween. I don’t envy the editors here. One of the driving considerations at this place is providing an arena of total freedom of expression. You can’t even begin to be honest and brave in expressing yourself, without it. And yet there is that line between total freedom and some kind of abuse of that total freedom; the editors sometimes have to knock us back a bit if we get too, shall we say, rambunctuous. E.g. giving some troll or other what for, or just mouthing off (alas, one of my fortes) in a thoughtless way that does no one any good and may even do damage. The editors’ task is easy when we are safely on the right side of the line, and easy when we are dangerously on the wrong side of the line; it’s when we are right on the line that things get a bit sticky for them. Given some of the sites some of us have been frequenting, and still on occasion frequent, where our every word is moderated, the freedom we have here to express ourselves, is heady. Who knew? But here at Planet I see real respect among members for other members, even in situations where the disagreement over some issue or other, is intense, perhaps even explosive at times. Head-to-head disagreements, here, do not seem to result in the kinds of verbal bloodbaths you see at other sites. Quelle relief. In a word and just for what the opinion of a brand new member may be worth, I think Planet is, pretty much and among its competitors, the bee’s knees. Congrats to its founders and contributors and may the stats only get better and better. Thanks for collecting and providing them, Ad Lib. abby » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 12:29 am Excuse me, Emerald, if I do a test here, please? test » Posted By abby4ever On December 31, 2009 @ 3:35 pm Turkey is one of the few things I can do well. It was the rosemary…may rosemary never touch my lips again. I had one bite, one, and that was hours ago and I can still taste it. It, rosemary, is supposed to be for succulence. Said the label. And I have to admit that as awful as the flavor was, the thing was really moist. But I’d rather eat a bird as dry as sand, without the rosemary, than ever again… My husband says it’s time for me to bake the apple pie. I’m not ready, I’m gun-shy now after the fiasco with the turkey. With my luck, today, anyway, the apples will have been soaked in something even worse than rosemary, and the only thing I can think of that would be worse, is petrol. » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 9:57 am That was the worst turkey I’ve ever eaten. It was specially ordered but my husband was given the wrong bird when he went to pick it up and we didn’t notice that until just before stuffing it. It was basted, it said, with rosemary. Ha! Basted? That bird had been given a rosemary bath , soaked in that instead of brine. Bathed in rosemary? That bird has been eating rosemary…for months! I am disappointed. What a lot of work, all for nothing…though the rest of the dinner was ok. And anyway people all ’round the world are starving so why don’t you just shut up, abby, and be grateful for what you have? » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 9:12 am A lovely New Year to you, Vegas. :] » Posted By abby4ever On January 1, 2010 @ 6:42 amComments Posted By abby4ever
