The Real Elephant in the Room

That’s the short and sweet of it, Marion. We also can’t seem to hold onto the true meanings of WORDS anymore. “Middle class” now is everything between the CEO and the homeless guy on the bench outside.

And “Liberal”… well, that means a godless card-carrying Maoist-Leninist, of course. And “Conservative,” well, that now means that you have to be a racist, bigot homophobe cousin-humper.

I blame the media.

This is only half-heartedly snarky.

Peace.

The Legacy of Nixon: This Democratic Party

Hi! Still lurking from time to time.

I’m sensing that the ghost of Lee Atwater is offended that he didn’t warrant a passing mention in your story. Hahaha.

Good historical info, but I’m not necessarily seeing the same thing as you. And I’m not giving up. Cheers!

Mid-Atlantic Trip Part I: D.C.

Wonderful pics and commentary, Khirad. I hope to get out to DC sometime. Looking forward to more.

St. Mary Peak and my little gesture for Hume and CarlVee

Anyone remember “Carl’s” internet radio talk show he tried to start up more than once? That was fun. I called in and did my best Dubya impression.

Amanda BC

I was ordered to get another MRI for my back and leg today. My Doctor’s office told me that they have to get pre-approval from Empire Blue Cross before I can go. They will call me, then I will have to schedule an appointment. Since I am leaving on vacation tomorrow night, I guess I will be waiting for weeks or months… like in Canada… unless the Death Panel gets me first, eh?

I should call Gland Blecch and let him know.

Take it from me, a drunken Scot who’s family originally settled in Canada before coming to the U.S., Vancouver is a BEAUTIFUL place. It’s also very hip. Very liberal, very diverse. Great dining. You can buy pot there “almost” legally. My wife and I had our honeymoon there.

From Vancouver Island to Whistler is truly one of the most gorgeous areas in North America in my opinion. The climate on the Island is typical drizzly pacific NW, no real snow, but coastal so no real hot summer either. The short drive to Whistler and you can ski or snowboard.

Don’t let one snooty know-it-all ruin your opinion of that area, let alone Canada as a whole. People in Canada in general are much more easygoing than Americans, and more polite. You should visit sometime.

Montreal, and Quebec City are also wonderful and feel almost European. And if you like the cities of Midwestern U.S. (Chicago, Detroit, Minn/St.P, etc.) then Toronto is the same kind of thing, but cleaner and better managed. 😉

Now, back to my drinking. (Then I am genetically obliged to have an argument that degrades into a fistfight with my family members then we all cry and hug and tell each other we love them.) And remember, if it’s not Scottish, it’s CRAP!

Take care. *hic!*

Ten reasons why the Stanley Cup Finals beats the NBA Finals

PEPE! I loved reading this. I am a huge Tragically Hip fan, as well. Saw them in Detroit and was surrounded by Canucks with flags. 🙂

I will be going to Chicago on Thursday night and will be watching the Friday game somewhere downtown! That will be a blast, I’m sure!

I really miss playing. 🙁

Game on!

Friday Night Open Thread – Britcoms

“Have we got a video?” Man, The Young Ones was so funny. I love Britcoms. Black Books, Spaced, Coupling, and all of the old classics.

A more recent gem that we just finished watching on DVD is “Gavin and Stacey,” which is a romantic comedy that was a pretty good one to watch with the wife. The character of big rough Nessa from Wales just steals the show. Oh, and Uncle Bryn as well.

Great slang the Welsh have. “Alright Neil the Baby, so what’s occurrin’?”

Reality ‘Shopped

Electronic “Photoshopping” has been done since the early days of the ironically named “Hell” machines of the 80s, then to become Hell/Linotype. Less and less skill is required to do passable alterations with every new version of Photoshop. Even to a 22 year veteran of print advertising like myself, it is troubling.

Moyers Going Out With a Bank

Bill Moyers is a National Treasure. Period.

The Country will become at least slightly more ignorant for losing him.

It’s Game on with Wall Street Reform

LOL, KQ, I see you noticed Ramirez’s breakdown. Hilarious. We kept filibustering his posts with trivia and then he blew a circuit.

Tea Party Ingredients: Old Hateful White Males on Social Security

Does it seem to anyone else that the polling suggests that baggers now include mostly “Raygun Revolution” holdovers? Selfists. Not nearly as many independents or libertarians anymore.

I highly doubt that this current polling would match the same data if polled last year from looking at the footage.

I mean, now that the wholesale GOP is behind it, it’s an entirely different movement from last year. Isn’t it? Maybe not the rural ones. Or has the GOP involvement just diluted it so much already?

I feel compelled to add that the last two weeks have probably been the best two weeks in recent memory for The Daily Show. Must watch.

Just checked out the Daily Show coverage of Bagger Day. Not all that great. Holy crap, Tracy Morgan is drunk as a skunk.

And they’re selfish assholes.
