Which comes first? The chicken or the egg?

The masses that rallied behind Obama from the get-go had an agenda of their own. I know this because I am one of them. Before this very able, strong, intellectual came along I was in a very dysfunctional relationship with my previous Administration, but was forced to stay ‘involved’. I was abused…emotionally. My partner had no respect for me or anyone outside their circle of power. This strengthened them and frightened me. Yet I knew this relationship would end. Badly. So, now rides in this Knight of Democracy with powerful ideas and plans to right the wrongs of my last partner. And although he told me precisely what he planned to correct…I heard a laundry list of other issues he was going to address whether he was aware of it or not. I was too busy considering adding more and more to the honey-do list to hear the sensible, attainable goals my new partner had laid out before me. He asked for my help and my patience. I wanted everything…now….and just the way I happened to see it in my…well…emotionally battered mind. What in the world was I doing running into this relationship with all of this baggage believing in miracles instead of sound judgment? ow unfair of me was it to expect, no DEMAND that this new benefactor save me from every ill I could conceive?
In the end, it was us that transferred our own twisted dreams onto this man, when the entire world looked to him for salvation…he gave us reality and it stings like a paper cut between the fingers of the republic and the Right wing plays us all like a demented, out of tune fiddle…We all wanted and demanded Muhammad Ali mixed with a little Nelson Mandela and were shocked, shocked I tell you to get Denzel Washington with a lot of Cliff Huxtable. And for that, we should all be patient, reasonable in our expectations and thrilled to know the world has gained a beloved statesman and not a sad, pocket cowboy with his posse of mustache-twisters….

Took me the longest run down the soundtrack for Blade Runner. Then I found there was strange goings on with Vangelis and his music being released for the film, etc…I’m not sure I’ll ever have the complete and true pieces…haha~
Didn’t Tangerine Dream have something to do with Vangelis?

Keeping in mind the state of hate we have here in America, it is profoundly important that we understand this song more than ever.
“You can blow out a candle, but you can’t blow out a fire…once the flame begins to catch…the wind will take it higher”….The eyes of the world are upon us now….

I swear I’ve heard Baby’s on Fire before….the other two…no. But just obscure enough for me to truly dig.

Time for a change, right?
This song stops time for a moment. A bit of reflection.

Poignant. Beautiful. Speaks volumes about me personally and, in fact, the state of our nation.

Anon,

I think in a few ways you and I have more than a couple of truths in common. I, myself, have just discovered art and creativity as the reality I need to live in. This new expression has allowed me an outlet to offer true emotion, pride, anger, love, contempt and dreams. I imagine you have had similar feelings about your expressions and art. Sometimes it ‘saves’ you…redeems you in a way. As a straight guy with a soul now committed to the arts, the 2nd half of my life is going to be a real journey. LOL~
I’m looking forward to forging a new friendship with you over the weeks to come. (13 years sober and lately have been visited by some serious triggers that have almost won me back…) You have true friends here….

Oh Em, …I’m so sorry for all the trials you’ve had to endure. I think we’re both so very tired of loss. You do know what this pain is and I thank you for being here for me now. Everyone here is a wonderful force. I do draw strength from this gang while trying to manage a competent posting from time to time. These events just seem to eat away every ounce of what makes a person who they are and at the same time forging a new person if they’re fortunate.
I’m not a religious person either, yet I truly do believe deeply in the human spirit and connection we all share. I’m just so very tired. You know that feeling….weariness, emptiness, ya’ know? I’ve always HAD the spirit to pull up…pull out of the nosedive…just this time…I feel so disconnected from the world…like I’m outside of the fishbowl looking in. Lost. It’s just situational depression and I understand that…I’m just stumbling my way out, it seems. Thank you again for being here for me right now. Being alone in this empty tomb of a house is just crushing. You and everyone here fills the silence and the echoes. I am lucky indeed. I will stop broadcasting my situation from here on out. I’m glad you’re here after your ordeal. 🙂

Em, …you’re not over-stepping any bounds as far as I’m concerned. Your opinion and advice is gold to me. I think everyone has a certain perception of themselves that is always a little self deprecating and perhaps I offer that side of me up too often. Yet, imagine for a sec that your partner of 13 years has just left you and took the kids too. Your partner was the breadwinner and you have no job prospects at all in this horrid economy. You’re a middle aged white male. The house you’re in could sell any day…leaving you homeless. The car you’re now living in will soon be repossessed and you’re on the street. You are the last of your family left alive and moved so often you have no support base of friends to offer shelter or hope. Day after day you wake up trying to find a handhold to pull yourself up on, yet it’s never there. You blog, write poetry and search for work 18 hours a day until your fingers hurt. You know time is running out…not just for your internet connection (your only lifeline to human contact, job searches, etc.), but running out maybe for good. This is truly where I am. I don’t say this to be snarky or to illicit a particular response…I’ve had enough pity from all I can take. I say this maybe as a cathartic kick in the rear end, I dunno. You may hear wisdom and strength and maybe you’re right. Yet with all of those things…even those things I KNOW I possess, …I can’t seem to pull the trigger on my future. It’s the one thing a dreamer like me hasn’t accumulated over the years. I don’t know how to make life work for me I suppose. It’s a real problem. I am struggling daily with bouts of depression and bursts of creativity. Maybe this is what artists over time have had to deal with. And many of their stories don’t end well….LOL~
It took courage to tell me what you were trying to get at. I hear you. I’m trying so hard to make my own reality. I mourn my situation…my past. I need to chin-up for the future…I know….

Thanks Kesmarn. If it were possible to post a transcript of this piece I would do it, but it really is a long and contemplative read. Best to listen to it. Hmmmm…Fedora has issues with that type of file? I’m all about open source and they’re usually pretty good at getting code out there for media files….hmmmm….

Thank you so much for your karmic support. I feel it…here at PlanetPOV I truly feel it…I’m trying to keep the wit and humor operating for now. I suppose I can give it up once I’m a gibbering, wild-eyed homeless vagabond preaching that the end is near…..LOL~

…oh wait…I’m that NOW, right?…..LOL

I hope you and everyone else gets the chance to hear that piece before they take it down. I’ve been in my head the whole night after listening to it….

Freedom Is Overrated…

I have a question that has been puzzling me for awhile now and wonder if there is an adequate answer amongst the wise ranks of POV. (all of whom need to vote for my Arts and Entertainment poems rather than see this site’s great dictator win when it should be WE little peopl…ahem…anyway)

Is there a book, ….a tome…a volume, of standards or templates for Great Societies? I am aware of the usual works that speak on freedoms, theocracy and even communism, yet what I haven’t discovered is an all encompassing, timeless compendium of knowledge that spells out precisely WHY a Republic should, in fact, act more like a Democracy when said Democracy is functioning under Capitalistic Consociationalism. Odd, no?

See, in truth, America functions more like…well…Confederated Corporatism at the end of the day with a nod to some Plutocracy.

Freedom…it seems is as murky and definable as anyone would like it to be. It is more of a ‘feeling’ than an ideal to found a Republic or ANY organization on. Freedom is great. However, I personally would LOVE the freedom to not be under the contsant threat of bankruptcy by missing ONE payment on a debt while corporations STRIVE to accumulate this debt for themselves. I would like the freedom to not worry that I may become homeless through no fault of my own. I would like the freedom to be ABLE to pursue my life, my liberties as I define them and my happiness as I define it without having to worry that I have no health insurance and others with a vested interest in me NOT getting proper health insurance are in control of SO many of my….freedoms.
I,…we…are not ‘free’ here in America. It’s pretty good…no question there. But try and take 2 months off work to rediscover who you TRULY are because society has sculpted you into the perfect consuming machine that is terrified of losing your job and everything that falls away from that. Is this what we are to be ‘free’?
Sadly, I think I personally would be a more productive member of humanity if for a second I thought my keepers would defend me against tyranny, heal me when I’m not well, reward me for being constructive and creative, allow me to flourish and thrive on personal success and allow me to learn from my failures without those failures meaning I can no longer participate in society. We desperately NEED a government like this, I feel. I realize there is no Utopia…only the one in my head….So if it exists there,..why one earth can’t it be manifested in reality?

Time Out for O/T – Vol 1

Quick paradoxical logistical question.

At what point are we able to look BACK in time far enough and in the right direction to see the light from OUR galaxy?

Hmmm……

An Incomprehensible Crime

Absolutely unreal. I have stopped trying to understand the evils of this world and have diverted my attention to avoiding being a victim myself. Here in the town I live in,…it has become a weekly occurrence for your house to be shot into multiple times in the middle of the night. And I live in PODUNK! I will be thinking positive thoughts for the woman.

Dark Matter (WIMPS) the other Holy Grail in Particle Physics

Well, as tongue in cheek as it was, most of what I said (until the sci-fi moment) is legit. Still, funding on that large a scale for a simple, if even perceived, ‘ah-HA!’ moment seems bizzaro even for our screwed up global economy. There HAS to be another epochal reason for all the hub-bub,…bub.
What WTS above is saying is entirely legit as well…to think that every conceivable outcome for every decision, thought and action is happening all at once is thrilling but what it means in the long run confuses me. Now, help me to figure a way to employ the 80% of our brain we don’t use and NOW we’re talking science!…haha~
(Sci-fi moment redux: – We’ve actually come back in time thanks to CERN and intentionally altered human evolution to lose our brainiac abilities! Now WHY would we do that???? Mmmmwwwwaaaahhhhh!!~~~~~~)

I’m very pleased to read your insights on these matters (no pun intended). I did a research paper on the particle before they were called god-particles…silly.
Anyway, the seeming weakness of gravity does play well into M-theory as these particles must make their way through what appears to be…what…11 dimensions now? In any event, after much research and thought, I have come to understand but one thing: Why so much interest at all? Do you realize just HOW much $$$ has been spend globally on hunting down this snipe? Now, I have never been a conspiracy kinda’ guy and maybe that’s not really what I’m getting at here, but I always follow the money. It seems very strange to me that billions upon billions of dollars are being spent on something even the scientists admit they might not even realize they’ve isolated the snipe particle (my phrase…LOL) when they catch it! As you probably already know…this particle…this event that evidences the particle is a bit dodgy because it’s not so much WHAT is actually there to measure…but rather what is ‘missing’. Pretty neat!…and costly. Last year CERN fired up the collider and it was damaged in the first 2 weeks…badly damaged. The team inspecting the damage said that it almost appeared as if someone or something had deliberately sabotaged the test. And each time they repeated the test…something else would happen to delay or derail the experiment. The scientists thought this was against extremely high odds….literally…odds.
My sci-fi take on all of this? It all starts right here…right now. CERN will discover the process of time manipulation and this will become the new science to fight wars over to obtain. Can you imagine? And these, strange mishaps, that are happening to the CERN collider are actually US coming back in time to (or someone) trying to stop us.!

Now where did I leave that bong?…..~smirk~

My Poem ‘ A Thief in the Temple’ read by ME~

I think you 2 are my biggest fans!…LOL~ The pre-2010 me would have balked at reading my own work. Much like the saying, …’only a fool laughs at his own jokes.’ But now, after this last year, screw it…I’ve had it playing the modest, humble loser. From here on out I embrace chances, risk and self-appreciation…LOL~ I was a radio personality back in the 80s (very small market)…I developed, battled and have possibly beat throat cancer. It feels nice to use my voice again. I’ve spent the last 13 years as a quiet guy. My heart leapt when you all mentioned my reading in a positive way. Maybe I will read another AND post the words as well…
I just don’t want to isolate myself from those that despise poetry…I realize, like wine, one has to have an appreciation of it and there’s no shame in hating it…LOL~

» Posted By TheRarestPatriot On January 1, 2010 @ 6:17 pm

Thanks Khirad. I was trying to find the best way to post it, but was in a hurry to get it here for the new year.
For the longest time I have read, ingested and poured over long dead poems by the best and simply wondered how THEY heard it in THEIR heads as they wanted it to be heard. I think it helps to hear inflection, tonality and personality in the words…makes the piece ‘live’ , IMHO.
Yet, poetry is about making it your own as well, so that is why I brought this here for review….Thanks again and Happy New Year!
