Abby….my favorite part of your post…

“BUSINESS was developed as a means to provide for mankind. MANKIND did NOT come into existence to provide a means for business to exist. We, people, seem to have forgot that simple concept. More simply put…BUSINESS exists to benefit mankind, mankind DOES NOT exist to benefit business. BUSINESS did not always exist nor did capitalism, communism, socialism or even monarchies. THEY developed over time, but as man progresses, so must our systems of allocating resources.”

I find myself thinking about this a lot and the way our entire society is right now. I’m a “health care professional” and it makes ME nauseated that health care has been turned into a commodity…we don’t have “patients”, we have “customers” (or my favorite…”health care consumers”…gag!). We treat patients with algorithms (“evidence based practice”) instead of seeing them as individuals…again an offshoot of corporate “efficiency” and of course, “cost containment”. Now, my eyes start to glaze over when the word “market” is tossed about in meetings, lest my blood start to boil!

I need to think more about the rest of your post….my critical thinking skills are a bit slower and deliberate (and occasionally muddled!)…I’ve been able to use my spirituality (Zen Buddhism is NOT a religion!!) to keep myself somewhat sane amidst many of the scenarios/situations that you’ve mentioned, but as it’s something I am still studying, often times I find myself still searching for answers to many of the questions you’ve posed…the suffering of others, inequalities, greed etc. bother me terribly also!

I’m going for a walk in the woods to un-muddle my head!

Who really knows…some prayers may get answered…who am I to say?…I’m a non-denominational Buddhist who believes I create my own heavens and hells…no “man in the clouds” to “bless” me or whatever.
