I, too, have spent some time in the hospital in the past 4 years but have managed to stay out for almost two years now. I had a heart attack in 2006 and then got a real special brand of e-cholei in 2007, the kind that attacks your kidneys. I had excellent care and wonderful docs and nurses both times. But I know what you mean about taking charge, I did not during the heart attack and went home without knowing alot of things I needed to recover. I had an especially hard time traveling away from an area with a good trauma unit because I got such good care at John Muir in the Bay Area. Eventually I learned to live with it and luckily have not had another. I hope you get well real soon and are back home again among your favorite things.
