My daughter literally went and got her after her foster mother had thrown her belongings out in the street. My daughter said, “Come on, you are going home with me.” She had challenges in qualifying to be a foster mother as she was single and had two small children of her own. She got it done and Nicole was never taken away even before they had qualified her. After school, Nicole worked for me at my company. This is a young lady that was part of our family for a small period of her life. My oldest daughter took her in and became a foster mother just so she could have her live with us. She saw her through high school and off to college. She is Nicole Dobbins, the Executive Director of Voices for Adoption and resigns in Washington DC. Nicole graduated Oregon State University in 2006 with her bachelor’s degree and did some work for the Foster Care Club until she got an interview, at age 25, with Voice for Adoption. She so impressed this organization that they made her their Executive Director and the person who speaks up for foster care adoption in Washington DC. She has spoke about the new Adoption Tax Credit that Congress passed a couple of weeks ago and was with the President when he signed the bill! We are so proud of her! Love them and they are gentle giants. I have had both, purebred and mixed. Loved them the same. I prefer certain breeds, like my Scottie (which I will have another someday). It is important to check out the breeder and the breeder before. Registration papers should be examined. Regardless, you don’t always know who you will get, pure or mixed. The owner will have the most impact. Of course, that goes for children. You don’t know who you created but you certainly as the parent will have the most impact. I love my girls and my dogs and my cats! (This was a big cattle man, too, Nirek.) Now he tried bird hunting, too. Had two bird dogs that were brothers. He took them out hunting, got all his gear out of the trunk of the car, and off they went. When he fired his first shot the dogs went running back to the car and jumped into the trunk. Talk about going from one extreme to the next! I grew up with the races maintaining different parts of town and all knew their place. Then I went where religions maintained different parts of town and all knew their place. After there I went to progressive Portland OR. While living it you don’t necessary see it but it is there. After you are away from it for a long period and go back, it is as clear as day to you and you are not comfortable there anymore. I simply figured it was a matter of geographic’s. Since more Democrats live in the metropolitan states (large metro cities) and Republicans in the southern urban ones, it is much simpler to maintain a cat than a dog for the Dems. Having a couple of cats in an apartment is easier than a couple of dogs. But, I have two great danes that are real couch potatoes along with the cats on the top of the piano. Of course as the article points out, Calif with lots of Metro cities has more dogs than cats. Believe me, weeding through the cartoons has been rough. But for every bad one, I’ll find two good ones.
The best thing I heard was from a gay friend of mine who asked if I heard the President mention gay rights in his speech. Of course I did and my friend answered: “You know, I felt like a real person for the 1st time in my life, as if I belonged to society as well.”
That will stay with me longer than any bitter, hateful comment from the other side!

reported 1-16-13 on an internal audit by the GSA:
The renovation was done in 2007 under President George W. Bush’s Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne, but is only now coming to light, thanks to the dogged reporting by ABC News Atlanta affiliate WSB-TV, which first filed a Freedom of Information Act request on the renovation four years ago.
But here’s the catch.
Although Americans don’t want the debt ceiling raised, and although Republicans are the ones against a clean raise, look what poll respondents say when asked who should get the blame if the debt ceiling isn’t hiked, and payments for crucial services are halted.
This is from a new NBC/WSJ poll. 45% of respondents would blame the GOP. Just 33% would blame Obama and Congressional Democrats.
This seems contradictory, of course, but it’s really not that weird.
People don’t get what the debt ceiling is. It sounds like a good thing… a tool to keep the government fiscally prudent, which it’s not.
But people do seem to grasp that the GOP is on a dangerous kamikaze mission. So even though the GOP is ostensibly on the same side as people on the debt limit, they can’t win by going all the way.
If we wake up one day, and we’ve hit the “x-date” it will be the GOP taking most of the blame.
I don’t know where my horse would have fit in but that may explain why I have Great Danes now. 😉
As far as your description of a cat and independence, you obviously have never owned a Scottie. Bush and I had one thing in common, taste in dogs. But, I lean more to FDR. My granddaughter has the sweetest Pit Bull and we are thankful that she has her since our granddaughter lives alone in SF, CA. Although I have been around a few attack cats!
I think more along the lines that you can’t judge a book by its cover or dog or cat. It’s the story inside or maybe the shelf the book is maintained on.
