It Was the Best of Us…It Was the Worst of Us…

I’m doing well, thanks, Kesmarn! We’re headed for a federal election in 3 months when I hope we get rid of the Kanadian Klown Kar Krew and elect more moderate folks (Go NDP). I’ve had enough of our wannabe Repubs 🙂

I hope all is well in your part of the world??

I’m late to the party but let me be the second Canadian to add congratulations! Haters will always hate but, thankfully, their numbers are diminishing as love wins the day.

In Remembrance of Bito

I’m lost for words and so sorry for the loss Bito’s family and his second family on PPOV have suffered in his passing. I always enjoyed reading Bito’s posts and TO/OT is the first place I stop to read …. but the very first thing I always do is to check to see if Bito is still posting ‘cos it meant he was still OK. I am so so sad at this news

Morning Blog

It’s hard to lose a parent no matter how old we are and even harder when you are so far away from them. I am so sad for your loss Kalima.

Time Out for O/T – Vol. 18

Yup (or should I say Arf Arf) KT – good to see you also. I can’t add anything to what you say – rending of garments and gnashing of teeth seems to be all the Republicans have left in their arsenal. I larfed like a drain watching the video although it’s sad that there are fairweather Dems that are pouting ‘cos they didn’t get their unicorn yet. Even worse are those Dems who will vote against Mr. Obama – do they really expect Romney will give them that unicorn – it beggars belief 😮

Darn it – I had a long reply all typed out E’cat and then the interwebs had an intersnit >:( I must learn to use and love Notepad. I love country living but really am starting to miss city amenities.

The weather is good when it’s not raining so check the forecast before you pack your gear. The nights are getting cool now and maples are starting to turn red. The Confederation Trail runs about 6 miles south of here so don’t forget to face north if you get to Kensington and wave madly so I can see you 🙂 Have a great trip

You are such a joy Kes!! I have missed posting here and I’ll try not to be such an absentee Canuck 🙂 I’ll certainly be following the lead up to the election even though my nerves will be screaming and twitching all the way – I can only hope that the majority of the electorate can see through the BS and vote appropriately. Although when I see stuff like this http://news.yahoo.com/photos/romney-or-obama-or-another-candidate-how-voters-are-leaning-slideshow/ (from the Yahoo widget thingy over there >>>>>>>) I absolutely despair 🙁 Keep the faith, my friend!!

» Posted By Mightywoof On September 28, 2012 @ 3:10 pm

Thanks for the welcome back AdLib! I sure hope you’re right about the debates – I’ve been reading the start of a low expectations meme that has me concerned …… Romney is expected to really stink in the debates so any time he manages to keep his foot out of his mouth will be considered a win for him. I’m a worrywart by nature so I don’t think I’ll start to breath easy until the President O wins in November – any other result is unthinkable 😮

Hi everyone!! I haven’t been around for ages – long story but we finally moved to PEI – loving every minute of it even though we’re busy beyond belief with an old house that needs renovating and 6 acres that need tending. I do come in as often as I can to read but with a rural internet connection (yeah – an oxymoron, I know) it’s an exercise in frustration to actually try and post anything. So this will be short 🙂

My stomach is in knots over this election – as an outsider looking in I am totally gobsmacked that there are still Americans that think Romney is president-material 😮 So ………. Goooooooooo Obama!! And to help you GOTV – if you haven’t seen this (I apologise if it’s been posted already) Here’s Samuel L. Jackson and his version of a Dr. Suess oldie – “WTFU”. Enjoy

P’s and Q’s – it’s short for Please and thankQ – my mind is full of useless information 🙂

I’m saving Walken’s version as a special treat KT – looking forward to it!!

» Posted By Mightywoof On May 10, 2012 @ 2:32 pm

I’m fine Kes – and I hope you’re the same? We’ve been busy and then some getting the house ready – it just sold this afternoon soooooo come July 19th we’re off to our beloved PEI for good. It’s been an exhausting process and there have been days when I’ve almost fallen asleep where I stand but it’s only going to be good from here on in *thumbs up*

I’ve lost track of where y’all are in your daily doings and I must try and keep up with you; I’ve also been burying my head in the sand about halfway through the Repubs primaries – they were totally, gobsmackingly, scarily awful. I’m praying to all the gods I don’t believe in that America regains it’s sanity in November 🙂

» Posted By Mightywoof On May 10, 2012 @ 2:30 pm

How can any sane person entertain hate for this man! He is such a decent human being and has such a personal connection with others (especially kids it seems) that I just don’t understand the hate

I’ve never heard that story – it’s cute. I’m gonna go practice my grrrrrs and my unblinking stare now.

» Posted By Mightywoof On May 10, 2012 @ 8:52 am

I’m afraid I’m ashamed of my country KQ – we enthusiastically signed on to the first Kyoto under a liberal government who then did bugger-all until they were tossed out and replaced by a conservative government. The C’s have no intention of doing anything – until the States and the thrid world do something and then we’ll climb on board. Absolutely shameful!!

I also heard on the CBC yesterday that RW dirty politics has arrived in Canada – during the last election in one riding the C’s were calling voters to tell them that the Liberal candidate had decided to withdraw from the race …….. even the Speaker of the House (a conservative) said that this was totally shameful behaviour.

Given that I read on the Planet somewhere that Frank Luntz was a visitor to the PM’s office (and we now have an Office for Religious Freedom) I am very afraid for my country – it will be unrecognizable in a few years 🙁

Irish Presidential Election 2011: Candidates and Referendums.

Thanks for taking a break from your busy schedule to give us a pweak into Irish politics, Caru!! There was a news report on CBC radio about the upcoming elections and they mentioned Higgins name – I shouted out The Elf and hubby gave me a very weird look 🙂

I look forward to your further reasoning toward your candidate of choice (although I’m partial to any Elf)

Born This Way?

Hi Caru – thanks for this article – it made me go and do a really quick search for facts with which to dispute your article ………. and I found out that I was incorrect!! I had long understood that paedophilia was a learned behaviour by people who had, themselves, been victims of paedophiles but apparently the verdict is not in! There is some evidence (it was a really, really, quick search 🙂 ) for physical differences in brain scans. This doesn’t excuse the behaviour but it’s interesting to understand the causes (I don’t believe science will ever narrow it down to one specific cause for which they can invent a magic pill) and hopefully find a way of successfully treating this!

So – I agree with your conclusion – and thanks again for making me work out my brain this morning!

The Occupy Wall Street Thread

I wanted to wipe the sneer off that guys face ….. grrrrr!!

» Posted By Mightywoof On October 27, 2011 @ 11:42 am

They’re doing what they always do – shoot from the lip and then hold their finger up to see which way the wind blows. What – expect them to actually analyze what’s going on? Oh – you’re joking, right 🙂

The Debt Ceiling Battle: Obama Won It, Despite What You Heard

So true about the macho values, E’Cat ……… I find an intelligent, compassionate man far more sexy than a gun-slinging cowboy 🙂

Excellent deconstruction,Murph – isn’t it sad that this is the sort of thing that ‘respected journalists’ used to be so good at reporting? Nowadays …. crickets 🙄 No wonder the RW trot out their lies (ooops – version of events) and likewise the Unsatisfied Purist Left. A pox on all their houses – GOTV and get President Obama a second term!!

Respectfully
A Canadian Neighbour Who’s Really Scared of What’s Happening Down There!!

Occupy Wall Street? Why?

Great observations by Mr. Graeber, Em …… back when NAFTA was rolled out (yes – it’s despised up here as it is down there) I had a premonition that it would be a race to the bottom and so it has proved. If Charles Dickens was alive today he’d be totally gobsmacked and wearing a T-Shirt that says ‘Been there, Done that’ ………. those who don’t learn from history ……. slums, poorhouses and workhouses anyone??

What Americans Want to Hear on “The J Word”

Hi atdnext – what a great article!! This austerity thinking has gripped the entire western world – what utter madness 🙄 I live in hope that western governments (most if not all conservative need I say) come to their senses and stop with the nonsense of making over the world to fit their narrow views but I’m not holding my breath. Even in Canada, with a conservative government that has until now been forced to moderate their extremism and govern from the middle, we are slowly seeing a tack rightwards ……… and the economy is slowly grinding to a halt.

It’s about time the Corporate Welfare Bums were thrown off government largesse and attention paid to the vast majority of the population to get them working again – and not in ‘working poor’ mode either.

Time Out for O/T – Vol. 17

We’ve cured many a squeaking door hinge in this house with WD-40, Em ……. Canadians live with WD-40 on one hip and duct tape on the other 😆

Em, I hate to do this but the first place I go when I get emails like this is Snopes. The list is partially true but the ingredients are definitely not benign – they are petroleum based.

KT – I keep going back to watch this video; I must have seen it 6 or 7 times this afternoon and each time I have tears in my eyes and shivers running up and down my spine. It fills me with such joy – what a beautiful world we are privileged to live in. Thank you.

Hi Cher! I read here every day but don’t always have time to respond to everything that’s going on – you are all such busy beavers!!

From what I understand any ‘cuts’ won’t kick in until 2013 – timed to co-incide with the lapse of the Bush tax cuts. As Bito points out below, screaming about ‘cuts’ that may actually turn out to be savings is over-reacting to certain buzz words – but the chattering classes aka pudnuts like to imagine hoary scenarios; it’s their raison d’etre 🙄

I very much doubt the SuperComm will even be able to agree on the time of day given the performance of the last 3 years in Congress but, should a miracle occur, the President still has his trusty veto pen. I don’t think he would allow anything to pass across his desk that would hurt the 99%

» Posted By Mightywoof On November 2, 2011 @ 3:45 am

I had a quick read and it is very confusing Cher. As I read it, the Super Committee, per Section 3, can do thusly:

•To Meet This Target, the Committee Will Consider Responsible Entitlement and Tax Reform. This means putting all the priorities of both parties on the table – including both entitlement reform and revenue-raising tax reform.

…. the President will demand that the Committee pursue a balanced deficit reduction package, where any entitlement reforms are coupled with revenue-raising tax reform that asks for the most fortunate Americans to sacrifice. (Section 5)

My understanding is that if the SuperComm cannot reach an agreement then Enforcement kicks in (2013) and entitlements are then off the table (Section 5, 3rd point)

I’m utterly confused with the talk of a Sequester unless it is synonymous with Enforcement!

Wipes tear from eye 😆 – funny man, Khirad!!

A little light relief for Bito ………. knowing your love of TED, I received this in an email this morning. I have a lifelong love of maths, even though I’m not good at it, and this was right up my alley. It’s long and I at first thought the guy just had a really, really good memory until his last ‘trick’
