Figuring Out The Far Right Republicans

They call GWB a big government conservative which is like saying he’s too liberal. The GOPTEA party of today only liked his social conservatism.

Goldwater was probably the first Libertarian pres candidate among the GOP. But once Nixon via Atwater employed the ‘Southern Strategy’ GOP politics has been guided solely by white identity politics. Atwater before he died admitted the ‘Southern Strategy’ was a huge mistake because it permanently damaged American society.

I hope we cross paths more in future as well. I’ve got a few personal situations going on so I haven’t been on the Planet as much as usual. But when things settle down I’ll be back more for sure.

I know what you meant and know you don’t have any ill intentions. It’s just when most people read anything about comparisons to Nazis all nuance is lost. I’m just saying some people may not get your point because of the emotions the term Nazi’s invoke.

My other problem with using the Nazis in any part of arguments is that the right wing uses the compares Obama and Dems far far too much to Nazis even though those comparisons are totally false even when compared to the methodology of the right wing today.

Bottom line invoking Nazis in any way just breaks my personal rule on developing arguments. Reductio ad nazium.

It’s no problem we can agree to disagree because it’s more a point of personal preference than substance anyway.

Put bluntly you nailed it. You’ve covered virtually all the motivations of the right wing. The right wingers fall under these categories to various degrees. Some are more social conservatives and others are ‘fiscal’ conservatives but what they all have in common is they are reactionary and motivated by fear and division. They hate change and are motivated by the fear that white folk will lose their grip on the country.

The only reason they are more divisive under Obama is because of the color of his skin. They literally ignore what he’s actually done with policies like lowering taxes instead of raising them like the GOP believes. The GOP is more like a racial identity club now than a political party, especially among older white men.

I do cringe a bit when I see direct comparisons to the Nazis because it just invokes such intense emotions. The Nazis where the Nazis and few groups in history matched their crimes. Even if the motivations of the right wing today are similar to the Nazis the actually acts the Nazis carried out were far far more horrendous. Of course the exception are right wingers that are card carrying members of know hate groups.

When The LIBOR is Manipulated You Should Care

Sue excellent article. I’m not going to pretend I understand it all but it sounds like another bunch of multi-millionaires and billionaires trying to fix the system even more for their own benefit. I really don’t get it any ‘free market’ system is already fixed for people with wealth. How much money do these greedy bastards need?

It’s also why Romney hiding his money in offshore banks should be a big deal to the vast majority of Americans. Like you said the world of international banking is opaque and anyone squirreling money away in foreign accounts is hiding or avoiding something.

Why Romney and the GOP Can’t Repeal “Obamacare”

It’s going to take years for the ACA even if implemented correctly to show a decrease in costs. I think by the end of Romney’s term the economy will naturally bounce back and Romney will get credit he does not deserve.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 30, 2012 @ 2:31 pm

I think they care more about the profit margins than the gross profits. That’s how big business funnels money into perks for the 1% to corporate officers or stock holders. Conservatives have been moderately successful at changing legislation like Medicare Advantage for example. I also don’t trust some Dems who did not like the PL ratio to start with anyway. Nibbling at the corners of the ACA can do great damage.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 30, 2012 @ 2:26 pm

Exactly AdLib that’s why the 2012 election is so crucial for the future. Romney would do everything in his power to damage the implementation of the ACA purely to ensure his reelection chances. While Obama did the difficult things politically to move the country forward.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 30, 2012 @ 10:17 am

Excellent article AdLib with some great wonkish policy stuff. You know the stuff the GOP hates.

But I don’t think you can understate how a Romney presidency can damage Obamacare’s implementation. Like all Republicans he will govern according to their self fulfilling prophecy that guvment is bad and does not work for the people. The biggest thing he could be successful taking away with the conservadems in the Senate is the fixed P&L ratio in the bill. That’s really the biggest thing greedy corporations want to cut out of the HC law NOT the mandates which they like. Believe me enough lobbyist money could buy 60 votes for something like that in the Senate even if the GOP does not have a filibuster proof majority.

For that reason and many others we need to make sure Obama is reelected to sure up his veto powers so Romney can not reverse Dem accomplishments.

Supreme Court Upholds Affordable Care Act

When many progressives were shouting the kill the bill crap Krugman was one reasonable voice. He wrote an article showing that the ACA was almost identical to the Swiss universal HC system that is still cheaper by about 30% per capita and better than ours.

The RW just feels better about holding up hiring under a Dem president. Under Bush the private sector lost over 600k jobs.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 11:56 pm

Amen K. The American people have won. The sad part is many don’t even know it yet.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 11:30 pm

That’s why even Roberts did not set a new precedent with not accepting the commerce clause case put forth by the white house. The tax issue always made more sense to me as well because there are all kinds of tax incentives that promote activity like buying a home with a mortgage. Where renters as a matter of fact pay higher taxes because they don’t have mortgages.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 11:26 pm

It has nothing to do with the ACA. It has to do with right wingers who control big business being as spiteful and hateful of America under Obama as your typical Rush Limbaugh ditto head.

The fact is business loves the new normal where they can pay employees less for more work. That won’t change even under Romney.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 11:21 pm

You’re probably correct the timing is definitely right.

It’s amazing how RW overreach is their biggest weakness. They could have crippled the ACA by striking down the mandate and some other things but this version of the GOP is so radical they could not even agree on that maybe.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 2:01 pm

I wonder if that rant helped turn off Roberts as well.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 12:08 pm

The biggest clue that Roberts defected is that in Scalia’s dissent he referred to the majority opinion as ‘Ginsburg dissent,’.

I truly think Roberts was against throwing the whole law out like the other conservatives wanted and he made the correct choice to go with the majority.

Was it a signal that Roberts is the new swing vote? I doubt it but the ACA was too big to scuttle in it’s entirety and even though there were conflicting precedents for calling the penalty a tax Roberts chose the affirming precedent.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 12:07 pm

AB that’s why I stick to the theory that some of the recovery is being held up by RW ideologues who happen to own most of the wealth. Sure there are other bigger factors but we know right wingers will do anything to take down Obama.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 11:58 am

Truth be told reading between the lines it seems like the RW faction of the court had Roberts on board as late as early this week. People have read Scalia’s dissent opinion and it reads like a majority opinion. Sure it could be Scalia’s arrogance but his opinion could have been so ideological and unconstitutional that Roberts just could not sign on with good conscience. I really think Roberts wanted to save the reputation of his court.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 11:55 am

Yup. For example the main reason Christie gave for vetoing the exchanges was because he was waiting for the SCOTUS ruling. Now he has no excuses because the NJ assemblies passed a plan for the exchanges.

The decision on Medicaid will certainly divide states even more. States that stick with right wing ideology will lose out big time if they don’t expand Medicaid because people will be paying taxes and not getting addition benefits in those states.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 11:49 am

Um I thought they were against Obamacare because it would hurt insurance companies. They can’t even get their attack lines straight. The truth is it won’t help healthcare insurance companies much because what they gain in overall revenue they will lose much more in profit margins because of the PL ratio.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 11:47 am

Scalia is all that’s wrong with our politics today. He’s suppose to be above politics but he’s really a RW hack who only gets his information from the RW echo chamber.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On June 28, 2012 @ 11:45 am

Great summary of the events. I had a good feeling when I woke up this morning and I’m glad it paid off. I just could not see how something so obviously constitutional could get struck down. Like I said on TO/OT I was a bit surprised not that Kennedy struck down the mandate but that he was behind Scalia striking down the entire law.

I especially liked the epic fails of the MSM and RW media by jumping to the conclusion that the mandate was struck down. It just shows how feckless and biased they are these days. It was definitely Obama’s ‘Dewey Wins’ moment.

GOP Files For Divorce From Reality

In a related article from one of my favorite blogs denialism. They constantly show where hyper partisans engage in denial. Here is one of their latest pieces on the resurgent birther claims. Just the fact that ‘birther’ is an excepted lexicon now shows how our poor education system has been a game changer for extremists, especially on the right.

Adlib you speak for the GOP delusions perfectly.

I don’t know if the modern right winger or even those sympathetic to the GOP will ever see the light.

This is really the most important election since before the Civil War because the GOP is at war with America. Even though most people know that now many of them are STILL going to support the GOP this fall.

Mitt Romney, Donald Trump and The Theory of Relativity

I agree it does not help Romney but we have seen that most American voters have no memory. They already forgot all the right wing stances Romney took during the GOP primaries. One of the biggest things I truly hate about Romney’s campaign strategy is that he is playing the voters for suckers and the voters are proving him right so far.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On May 30, 2012 @ 8:06 am

Absolutely KT. That’s why Romney is so dangerous. He will never have the gumption to stand up to the thugs in the GOP. It does not matter what his true stance is on any issue given his propensity to cave into his party’s right wing agenda.

» Posted By KQµårk 死神 On May 30, 2012 @ 8:03 am

Adlib you hit it out of the ballpark again with your keen wit. I got all tingly with your physics references.

The GOP’s relationship with Obama and the Dems is like quantum entanglement. No matter what side Obama takes on an issue even if it was favored by the GOP for years if Obama takes that side the GOP automatically takes the opposite side.

It’s nothing new because GWB was the first champion of governing via quantum entanglement. Just because President Clinton focused on terrorism when Bush took office he started obsessing on anti-ballistic missile shields as our biggest threat instead of OBL.
