Displaying 31 To 60 Of 3,333 Comments Adlib, I was going to ask for a live blog if possible. This one is a “must watch” for sure! Anyone want to bet that the birther issue raises its ugly head??? You know Trump will not miss an opportunity to pontificate! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 6, 2011 @ 4:27 am Sue, I really think Newt is “crazy like a fox”. I see him as more an arrogant opportunist with entirely too much ego! He actually believes he is the “chosen one” and his meeting this morning with Donald Trump speaks volumes! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 10:38 am Hi e’cat! Good to see you! No, Newt doesn’t give a crap about anything but his own power! I would have thought that his remarks about child labor would have a detrimental effect, but NO! The teabaggers loved it! Put those little needy bastids to work, mopping floors and cleaning bathrooms. The poor kids work and the rich kids get educated! We can see how well that will work out. It certainly fits right in with the Koch’s world view! Speaking of the Kochs, I wonder how they feel about Newt. They like to be able to manipulate their chosen ones. While Newt basically agrees with pollution and other Koch favorite things, I could see that he might be just a little too independent for them. » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 10:07 am Kes, Yes! You’re right! I have always been a big fan of Michael Moore but chagrined at his lapse in judgement lately. Wouldn’t it be great if the Dems could make use of this video? As I said to CL, I can’t wait to see the ads from MoveOn against Newt. So much material, so little time! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 9:58 am Bito, you know…you’re amazing! π Thanks for this information! I guess it is really not about what you know but where to find it! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 9:55 am CL, glad to hear the pain has subsided! I swear by my chiropractor! They can work wonders!! I’m also glad to hear that sentiments are running against the baggers in Congress. What a mess they have caused! Please keep us posted as you can. This is encouraging news. “Centerfold Brown”…LMAO! I have faith in Elizabeth Warren and her message. I think she’ll win back that very BLUE seat for us! And as for Arianna, we’ve known for a long time exactly what she is…no surprises there! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 9:45 am Adlib, I was interested in the national polls for the general election and how Newt would fare against the President. I didn’t dig too deeply but Rasmussen shows Newt with a 2 point lead over President Obama. Of course, I realize that Rasmussen always leans to the right, but this is a little unnerving. » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 9:38 am Kes, thanks for posting this! “I’m very pro-library.”…Newt Gingrich Hysterical! But the look on his face when the Coast Guard money was mentioned…priceless!! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 9:32 am Kes, I hate it when that happens! Why does our “edit” button go away? I always misspell words and need to fix before I am embarrassed! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 9:19 am Hi CL! Long time, no chat with! Indeed! You put this so well! It’s just amazing to me that when they settle(?) on a candidate, it doesn’t seem to make a bit of difference what that person might have done…as long as he can beat up on the black man! Cain may be the exception to that rule. After all, it’s not cool for a black man to be unfaithful to his wife! IMO, they were never going to allow Herman to get the nomination anyway. His infidelity was a great excuse to get rid of him. I have to admit that I’m rather looking forward to the MoveOn campaign ads against Newt…I suspect they’ll be priceless! So much material, so little time! Good to see you here…I hope your back is all better now and that you’re back up to fighting condition! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 9:17 am Sue, I saw something about this not too long ago. It seemed like the repubs just kinda’ gave up on winning the White House a few months ago, but instead decided to concentrate on the States where they actually can do the most damage. Just look what they’ve done in repub controlled states with voter suppression and other ALEC legislation. We really cannot afford to let our guard down anywhere. That’s not to say that the repubs aren’t trying to unseat PBO, but I believe they realized that none of their candidates could beat the President in the general election. They would be very happy to keep the House and perhaps win the Senate which would be disastrous at best. I don’t know how many states have gubernatorial elections this time, but we need to have Dems in control to fight back. I just hope the DNC is on to this! This is where the damage is really being done. Just look at Scott Walker and his little fiasco. These repub controlled state houses are wreaking havoc all over the country. » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 9:01 am Adlib, this is great! I am rooting for Newt as hard as I can! One thing that strikes me is the lack of concern by all the “family values” voters for their favorite candidates’ foibles and blatant character flaws. We have watched this meteoric Newt rise, laughing all the way, as it was discovered that his campaign staff had quit when he left the trail for a cruise in the Greek Isles. The story about Tiffany’s jewelry leaked out. Then the dirt began to come out about his wives and the divorces again, as well as the most recent bomb-shell that Newt received millions from Fannie and Freddie for his “historical” perspective. I thought that this last bit of background information would surely tank him, but the values voters have surprised me again. The family values voters have not been phased as Newt has broken every rule along the way. I think we have another “Teflon” candidate! π It’s a pretty sad commentary that a presidential candidate can lie, cheat on his wives, and take a lot of dirty money, but all he has to do is profess some kind of redemption by Jesus…and all is forgiven. But then, what more perfect candidate for the Republican Party? He fits their template to a “T”! Thanks for a good read! I believe you’re right! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 8:01 am Hi Cher! As usual, I’m late to this party! Had a great Thanksgiving at my son’s home, but a decided lack of Internet access. So, I’ve spent some time this morning, trying to catch up on everything. In reading your great collection of articles, one thing strikes me again…the fact that our government is badly broken. Duh!! While there are glimmers of hope in some of the stories, the overall picture is pretty grim. One item that you featured is the National Defense Authorization Act. This has to be one of the most frightening things I’ve ever seen! It is even worse than the Citizens United SCOTUS ruling. When I try to look at the “big picture”, I see such an unprecedented and unrelenting attack on our basic civil rights by this Congress! I have written the White House to ask the President to veto this bill and would encourage everyone here to do the same. This makes a total mockery of our Constitutional rights and cannot stand! My God, will the elections EVER get here?? It can’t happen soon enough for me! Those asshats can do an awful lot of damage in the next 11 months! Thanks for your hard work! You do us proud! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 4, 2011 @ 3:10 am A Thanksgiving Tradition – 2011 Kes, thanks so much! It’s nice to be missed! π The turkey was divine! I’ve never had any better or more moist. Nik cooked it, using cheese cloth soaked in butter and laid over the top of the bird. It sealed in the juices and kept even the white meat very moist. Of course, we basted it about every 10 minutes throughout cooking. That helps too. OMG, I’m making myself hungry! π I hope you had a great holiday too! I thought about everyone here, but I had limited access to the Internet. It’s nice to be back. » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 5, 2011 @ 8:16 am I notice that all the comments here were posted on Nov. 24th when I was out of town and out of touch. Since I didn’t have a chance to express my gratitude, I don’t suppose that anyone will mind if it’s a bit late. I am so thankful to be alive at the most interesting time in the history of this wonderful country. I am grateful for President Obama and what he brings to us with his wisdom and compassion. I am thankful for all of you here at PPOV! I cannot express my gratitude for the friendship you all have shown me over the past couple of years. Most of all, I am grateful for what I have learned from you…something new every day! My family is smaller now, but still just as wonderful as ever. They are so good to me, and I love them all dearly! I am grateful for my son’s turkey! He cooked it this year and I’ve never eaten any better, although I wouldn’t tell him that…might swell his head! He just thinks he can cook one better than I can! After all, I taught him all that he knows! π This is an on-going family “feud” between us as to who actually cooks the best turkey. I am grateful for his sense of humor that can make the darkest day much brighter! Gosh, I just realized that I have so much to be thankful for that I could write all night. Let’s just leave it that I am so happy to be here on PPOV with my friends who never fail to teach and inspire me! You guys are the best!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and that you had entirely too much to eat! » Posted By Emerald1943 On December 4, 2011 @ 9:14 pm Rashomon Vol II. Eight Views of the Not So Super Debt Committee WW, I loved it when he told them his answer was “No.” He didn’t embellish it…just “no”! That was great! The man is amazing with his 3-D chess. » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 21, 2011 @ 10:20 pm Hi WW! I was really proud of the Prez today when he made his statement! Priceless! http://money.cnn.com/video/news/2011/11/21/n_obama_veto_auto_cuts.cnnmoney/ Sorry about the ad at the beginning of this, but it’s worth watching! EDIT: Oh crap! I don’t think the link is working. I’ll try to fix it! WH embed: » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 21, 2011 @ 10:06 pm Hey Adlib! Thanks so much! Will do! » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 21, 2011 @ 10:00 pm Hey e’cat! From the sounds of this, I’m really sorry to have missed Volume #1! Kinda’ puts things into perspective, don’t it! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 21, 2011 @ 9:15 pm Cher, you’ve been sorely missed! What a comeback! I am just sooooo hoping that Clarence Thomas and his loud-mouth wife will get their just rewards! Ugly people with an ugly agenda! The item about the GPS tracking by law enforcement is one that I was not familiar with. I definitely want to know more about this story. Sounds like a terribly slippery slope to me. I’m wondering if the ONLY amendment left to us is Sharon Angle’s Second! The rest of them are getting trashed! Thanks for a good column! I’m looking forward to the next one! » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 21, 2011 @ 9:36 pm Hi KT! Just FYI, in case you didn’t see it, Ed Schultz did a great program on the UC Davis story tonight. Big Eddie was really hot! He had one of the victims on for an interview. It definitely was all about the outrage. Ed talked about the similarities between this and the 60’s anti-war and civil rights movements…the fire hoses and the dogs. They didn’t have pepper spray then, I guess. Hope all is well with you! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 21, 2011 @ 9:23 pm Occupy Las Vegas, Occupy Congress, Occupy the Vote Sally, you will love it! It is one of the cleanest cities I’ve ever seen. The architecture is beautiful and there is so much to see and do. I especially loved the Lincoln Memorial. They have a very small book shop in the building that’s worth a visit. In the “basement” of the Lincoln Memorial is a section dedicated to MLK and the civil rights march. Of course, the Smithsonian is not to be missed! The live butterfly exhibit is wonderful! I could go on and on about it. » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 19, 2011 @ 2:37 am Occupy Los Angeles Protest 11/17/11 Cher, with all that uphill walking, I can just imagine! I’ve had two hip replacements…in the same hip, so I resemble that remark! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 17, 2011 @ 5:30 pm Cher, I’m so proud of you!!!!!! You’re just the best! It’s great to think the PlanetPOV had representation out there today! I wish I could have been there with you! How exciting! It’s things like this that keep us young! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 17, 2011 @ 4:18 pm Cher, I do envy you! That was a great report! You really gave us a feel for it. I really like the bicycle cop in shorts…how laid back can you get?? He didn’t even look stressed as he cuffed that guy! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 17, 2011 @ 2:41 pm Khirad, the laid-backness or lack of thereof comes from the top down. LA has a really cool mayor! Bloomberg, OTOH, is an anal-retentive asshat billionaire! You could only expect that his police department would act that way too! » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 17, 2011 @ 2:17 pm Khirad, I have to agree with you about the drums!! I played snare and tympani in school with the orchestra and the marching band…the most fun I ever had! We had a rather large band, about 150 strong, and traveled quite a bit, including marching in the Orange Bowl parade in Florida. Bongos just don’t cut it IMO! » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 17, 2011 @ 2:14 pm OWS Episode V: The U.S. Empire Strikes Back Sally, about your toes!! That’s okay, honey! You don’t have to put them in the air! ROTFLMAO Now that’s a really scary thought! π I did the same thing to Sue a couple of weeks ago…an inadvertent thumbs down. Sh*t happens! π » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 20, 2011 @ 9:22 pm Kes, what a beautiful man! I think he was more brave to make those statements to Congress than he was to face the Viet Cong. They definitely didn’t want to hear what he had to say. » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 20, 2011 @ 8:02 pm Sally, OMG! Don’t even go there!! The thought that you could use your amazing intellect and talents for “the other guy” is scary beyond words! But please, just vote! We don’t want to take chances, do we?? » Posted By Emerald1943 On November 20, 2011 @ 7:36 pmComments Posted By Emerald1943
