400 Posts! 20,000 Comments! Merry Xmas!

Hey everyone! I just got a glimmer of hope for my sister. She is apparently coming around enough to pull at her IV lines and the heart monitor. She even spoke a few words…she wanted to go home and they can’t keep her there! That’s my little sis…full of pi@@ and vinegar!

So things are slightly improved. She is not out of the woods yet, but that is surely better than comatose! Her vital signs have been stable since last night with little fever. Her waking up from the coma would be the very best Christmas present I could ever get!

So many of you here sent your prayers and good energy to us here in North Carolina…see there, I told you it would really help! πŸ™‚ Thank you all so much!

And one more thing…the turkey is done! I’m not braggin’ but it looks like it could be on the cover of a magazine! 20 lbs. and you’re all invited!

Wow! My most humble apologies! It’s hard to tell the AC’s from the DC’s these days! LMAO

Just kidding! Congrats! BTW, I’m a girl too…however, “girl” is stretching things a bit!

Hey kesmarn! You’re the man! Enjoy that VO5! It does leave your hair nice and manageable! LOL

Just a quick message to Adlib et al who run this place!

I first joined HP in September 2008. I have posted over 10,000 comments and bashed my share of trolls. But in coming here, I have experienced something new…freedom! Even now, as I post, I catch myself feeling like I should hyphenate a word or put extra spaces in or some other ruse to get my comment past the mods…not obscenities or cuss words or even personal attacks…just my opinions. I never had the honor of actually being “banned” from the site, but I know I was flagged more than once and I completely lost count of the scrubbings.

This site grows on me each day! We really are allowed to say whatever we want to! Makes me really appreciate that First Amendment! The posts here are intelligent and thoughtful with no offensive language…it just goes to show you that we “adults” can manage ourselves without moderation! Arianna should take notes!

Thanks to you all for doing this! May you have a prosperous and happy year to come! πŸ™‚

Totally cool with me! (hic!) Making spiced hot mulled cider right now! C’mon over for a big mug of cheer! πŸ™‚

Hey K! That’s awesome news! I do hope you’re on the mend! We all were thinking about you!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 24, 2009 @ 7:19 am

I’m not a regular at FDL, but lately, Jane Hamsher has been bashing the Prez over health care. I really don’t care about their opinions…I just want to find a way to get our better posters over to PPOV.

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 24, 2009 @ 7:17 am

Hey, Scheher! Have you heard of anything similar happening over at Firedog Lake or The Daily Beast? I had not thought of going over there to round up a few opinionated people.

You guys are absolutely the BEST! Thanks so much! I have decided to try to blog while cooking Christmas dinner…what a concept! My next post may have green bean casserole all over it! πŸ™‚

Good mornin’, all you beautiful PlanetPeople! Wow! This is good news! Congrats to Pepe and Kesmarn! (I expect Pepe to show up to wax my car, weather permitting! Kesmarn, I can wash my own hair, thanks!) πŸ™‚

But it strikes me that we need to bring many more friends here! Last week, someone, perhaps Adlib, had posted some alternative URL’s that would clear the mods over at HP. I didn’t copy them at the time and wish that I had. Is there any way to repost them?

The mods were severe last week. They would not allow the word “planet” or the phrase “point of view” to go through…at least my posts got scrubbed and just never showed up. Annoying is not the word for it! (What’s the point of having a blog for opinions if you are not going to allow opinions??)

At any rate, Happy Christmas Eve to all! My sister is still hanging on but continues in a comatose state. I breathed a sigh of relief when we made it through the night without that dreaded phone call. So we wait… A big thanks to all who have sent kind words and prayers for her. It really does help to know that there is good energy coming from places all over the planet.

Lots to do today so I’ll pop in and out as I prepare for my grandkids to come for Christmas. Have a wonderful day, everyone!

A corny, hokey and unashamably bleeding heart liberal good time

My ex-hubby is a dead ringer for DH! What a cutie-pie! πŸ™‚ But looks ain’t everything!

A Festivus Message

Well, all you beautiful PlanetPeople, it’s now officially Christmas Eve here on the East Coast…and I need to put my body horizontal until daybreak!

I cannot express my appreciation to you all for your kind thoughts today. It’s been a hard one for me and your moral support has been invaluable! If it is part of your belief-system, say a prayer for Sherri, my kid sister. She is barely hanging on to life right now and it is breaking my heart to think of losing her.

Have a good night, everyone! I’ll check in with you tomorrow!

Love to you all!
Dana

You’re right, abby! I should apologize for the OT stuff too. It really is a wonderful post that needs to be distributed widely. It puts some things into perspective really well.

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 23, 2009 @ 9:29 pm

I will have them tomorrow and they will spend Christmas Eve night with me. Their mom gets them back on Christmas Day. I guarantee that no one will go away hungry! I’ve been cooking all day! Just about ready!

Thanks, e-cat! You’re the best!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 23, 2009 @ 9:26 pm

You have shown your wisdom! I go over only to check the misleading headlines and then come back over here to comment. If you went over there, it would only make you angry as it does me. I’m really sick of the O-bashing!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 23, 2009 @ 9:22 pm

Well, thank you so very much for your kind comment. I have never been so involved in politics as I have been since I began blogging. I used to have to sit here, angry and frustrated, with no way to vent the feelings…but now, I feel so free! And I am really pissed off!!! The corporate money has got to be taken away from Congress if we are ever to see laws written for the PEOPLE!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 23, 2009 @ 9:17 pm

Thanks so much! Since I am snowed in here alone, you don’t know how much the many comments have meant to me today. I have been a “basket case” and everybody here has been wonderful to express their concern. {{{Hugs}}} right back atcha’!

Yep, real classy! Just the kind of guy you want to have a beer with…NOT! πŸ™‚

Hey abby4! I am so glad you came over to PPOV from “that other site”! It’s great over here!

Don’t feel bad…I haven’t figured out all the bells and whistles here either. I have been trying to bring my avatar of my little doggie and can’t seem to get it done.

Nellie and Adlib, HELP!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 23, 2009 @ 8:43 pm

Nellie, are you serious? Did he really shoot somebody the bird? If so, wonder why MSM did not pick this up? They picked up on Dick Cheney’s famous comment to Senator Leahy on the floor of the Senate, “Go EFF yourself”! I’d like to have a poster-size blow up of this to send to a couple of friends! LOL

And thanks for the well wishes. Still no change on my sister tonight, although her kidney function is UP just a little bit and that is good news…she’s still comatose though. At this point, no news is good news!

Terrific! This took a lot of thought and effort and Marion is right! I think there are many of us suffering from disappointment right now. Maybe we just didn’t listen to President Obama last year before the election…maybe we put words into his mouth. Maybe we just misunderstood his plans or chose to believe only what we wanted to believe to fit our own agendas. After 8 long, long years of the Village Idiot in the White House, perhaps we expected too much too soon. Who could really blame us?

In any event, there has been a “let down” on the left, but I am one who is not ready to throw in the towel. This man is truly brilliant, maybe somewhat naive about some things..like “bipartisanship”, but I believe in my heart that his heart is in the right place. As far as the post is concerned, I wish I had written that! πŸ™‚

BTW, Bito, thanks for asking! You made me feel really good in asking for my opinion!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 23, 2009 @ 8:29 pm

This is one thing I love about PlanetPOV…we’re not restricted to 250 well-censored words (with no guarantee that they will even show up on the thread) and we can really get it all out there! I am such a happy camper! :-)There are hours of work to put this post out!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 23, 2009 @ 8:08 pm

You all are spot on and I apologize to Marion for not complimenting this well-done post! Most of you know that I have been really distracted by other issues today and my brain is not necessarily connected to my fingers! I especially liked the photo of Ms. Landrieu! LOL

BTW, speaking of photos, where did that picture of Shrub come from? Photoshop? With him, it’s hard to tell if it’s real or not…I would not put it past him…or Cheney either!

Good job, Marion! I look forward to more of your comments! πŸ™‚

Wow! Where to start?? This is surely a laundry list of grievances, some more justified than others. But there was one that you touched on ever so briefly, but not in enough detail IMHO.

Our sold-out bought-and-paid-for Congress! These career politicians have stuffed millions upon millions of dollars into their “campaign war chests”, all to continue their less-than-illustrious careers! I’m really, really disappointed in all of them, repub and dem alike.

And I could not be more disappointed in what little efforts have been made to end this government-by-bribery! It has been shown over and over in every poll in the country (with the possible exception of Rasmussen) that the American people are overwhelmingly in support of the Public Option in the health care reform. There is such a huge disconnect between the voice of the American people and the career politicians who are supposed to be representing us! It’s painfully obvious to all that they don’t give a flyin’ flip about what any of us want or need…as long as that money keeps flowing in from the lobbyists standing in the halls of Congress! You and I can stand on the steps of the Capitol building with our little signs and banners…nobody is paying the slightest attention!

Frustrated?? Yes, I am. Whether the issue is health care, climate change, education, banking reform, bailouts…we know what we are always going to get from the republicans. I just don’t think we really expected to get it from the Dems too.

The Imagination of a Child

Hey javaz and bits…. you are not alone with the memories. I have been thinking a lot about my kid sister day, the one who is so terribly ill. I remember when we first got bicycles…she got a shiny green one and I got a red one..Schwinn bikes by the Christmas tree. I also remember as a pre-teen when Santa Claus brought me a little record player for “45” records, something the kids today wouldn’t recognize. I had quite a collection of early Elvis’ singles!

We used to have parties at the house and invite all our friends. My grandfather would pack a big washtub full of ice and the original Coca-Colas in the glass bottles. We would drink cases of them and dance to our records in the early days of rock ‘n roll! Great memories!

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 23, 2009 @ 4:21 pm

Hi Javaz!

Heck yes, I played with “paper dolls” when I was growing up. I am probably a few years your senior…and came along before the Lennon sisters. But we did have Miss America to pay with! My sister and I spent countless hours holding our own pageants and beauty contests. Cheap toys but worth a million in memories!

No Matter What Americans Say They Want a Leviathan in Charge

What was missing even during Bush’s first term was the presence of the blogs. There were a few around, but they were just beginning to gain popularity.

Now, it’s a whole other ballgame! Instead of sitting here feeling frustrated and angry, I can get on line with lots of people and have a good, healthy discussion of the issues. This gives one the sense of really being involved, more than ever in the past. I would like to see the “progressives” a little more engaged…all good things come to him who waits. I just hope we have time before some disaster happens. We just have to keep pushing!

And I would have to agree with you about President Obama…what an amazing man! Although I don’t necessarily agree with him on several points, I admire him like no other President in my lifetime.

» Posted By Emerald1943 On December 23, 2009 @ 2:22 pm

Hey e-cat! Back earlier in the fall, during the long fights over health care, I believe it was Congressman Clyburn who came out with the idea to put into place “trial” programs to help the neediest while the rest of the system was set up to run this monster. That would give them some time to work out the “bugs” and give some people relief. I hope this will be the case.

C-SPAN Caller Fears Prayers for Byrd’s Death Affected Inhofe

Oh, I like that idea! I can write volumes on “guilt” and all things religious, having been raised as a Southern Baptist! (Now, a converted Jewish Buddhist atheist…what a combo, huh?) Let’s just say that I made the rounds! πŸ™‚

The only part I cannot comment on is the Catholic Church’s brand of guilt, although I married one of those and saw his self-recriminations on a daily basis for years. And for what the Church didn’t lay on him, his Italian mother filled in the blanks!

Adlib, I vote to have an “ask God” feature! This oughta’ be good!
