What if Trump saw he was going to lose and dropped out or resigned so he could be pardoned by Pence and another Repub could run against Biden? I hate to say it but I think that any scenario that changes Biden running against Trump hurts Biden and Dems chances to have unitary control in DC. One element that I think is elevating Biden and Dem hopes in Congress is the absolute disgust and fear of Trump and 4 more years of him with a compliant Senate. Take that away and maybe some voters will retreat to the concept of, there needs to be a check and balance against a President Biden so a Repub Senate might be a good thing. Or if an alternative to Trump runs, it could convince Repubs who are voting for Biden as a last resort to stop Trump, to stay home and vote Repub. I can’t see any way on Earth that Trump’s ego or criminal exposure would let him quit the race and voluntarily give up even a shred of a hope at winning re-election. This creature can’t deal with being the loser he knows he is, giving up with any reason would make him look like a loser and he knows it. We have only 101 days until we vote the monster out. On the other hand, considering his cult, the best thing in the big picture may be for him to be beaten in Nov first. Confidence is best, the confidence to work our hardest, and know that our efforts are likely to be successful. Knowing that voter suppression and foreign interference is underway and will only intensify, we should use our well-founded confidence to energize our work to GOTV and push back against the anti-democratic forces, especially the one going by the name of “GOP”. Sorry to say this but forget about the economy becoming a legit issue that helps Trump. The Fed is shoveling trillions into the markets and corporations, their getting fat on our stolen tax dollars and the DOW and NASDAQ rising due to that, makes no impact on a nation with 40 million unemployed, businesses closed up and closing up for good and the inevitable mass evictions and foreclosures about to explode. The economy is an anchor around Trump’s ankle now and well past the Nov election. So that ain’t happening (even top economists predict about a loss of 8% of GDP by year’s end). There will not be a legit vaccine for COVID-19 this year, definitely not before November 3. And even if there was, in a fantasy world, how does that help Trump? It isn’t an immediate fix, vaccines take a long time to first take hold in hundreds of millions of people and they don’t do anything to cure the masses of infected people. Also, vaccines have a success rate typically between 30% – 60%. If this vaccine was in the middle, say 45% effective, that means 55% of people, a majority will still be vulnerable to infection. What if an effective treatment is discovered? How much could be created quickly and how quickly could it be deployed to make an impact? And what would it do? Reduce the amount of time needed in the ICU? But still, people would be filling ICUs. This is not a “silver bullet” situation that can help swiftly before Nov and none of it changes that Trump made the decisions that turned it into an epidemic while every other Western Democracy has flattened and reduced infections WITHOUT treatments and vaccines. Not a win for Trump. What you do point out though is that Trump has a dictator’s infrastructure for trying to thwart and derail fair elections. Whether through government sabotage like defunding the USPS (but Dems are evil for wanting to defund murderous cops?), drowning the public in propaganda via billions of dark money, helping Repub Govs suppress the voting of PoC and other Dems, rallying racists and White Nationalist Militias to at the very least, conduct a low-grade Civil War to terrorize people of color from voting or walking into a polling place, Trump has many levers of evil within his reach to prevent a fair campaign and election from taking place. These are real moral leaders and the type of men and women who should be overseeing the hiring and training of police. Thank you for sharing your personal story about being attacked by the Klan as well, it does give me a lot of perspective but also greater appreciation for you, what you share and what you believe. I understand and take your point to heart, there are some incredible and brave people out there who wear a badge, many of whom have saved lives, protected the vulnerable and insisted on bringing criminals to justice. It is because as a society, we have come to expect that all policemen are as noble as the ones you mentioned, that I believe it is important to smash that facade and see the way things truly are, that it is a mixed bag and many of the bad cops are bad because of a systemic problem and rampant racism in the ranks. We’ve all seen how militarized the cops are nowadays, they are dressed and as hostile as soldiers attacking an enemy army and they have been assaulting thousands of Americans simply exercising their 1st Amendment rights. My view is one that would not disrespect the good cops like the ones you described in your very moving tellings. First, we can admit that there’s a cancer in the police, it doesn’t affect all policemen and policewomen but enough to make it a severe problem. Dissolve police forces and have them reapply. No one who has racism or violence, wearing a badge or otherwise, would be allowed back. Training needs to be done by people like the brave and conscientious cops you mentioned, to teach cops to go out in the public as allies and protectors of the people and that all people must be treated with the same respect. Violence from cops needs to be limited to self-protection or protection of others only when it is an immediate threat. There’s more but my intent is not to demonize all cops (cops have homes and families in my neighborhood and are great neighbors) but shake people up who assume that they’re all trying to do the right thing. Many are not, many reflect their first loyalty to the brotherhood of cops and white superiority and the people and justice can come last. Those cops need to be purged from the force so they can never again commit a modern-day lunching of a helpless black man. The violence at night following peaceful protests is clearly being caused by white nationalists and anarchists but by now we know that truth isn’t the point with Trump. Real problems that need solutions have finally hit the country during Trump’s reign and the emperor has no clothes. Trump can’t solve any of these problems because he is a flat out moron. He doesn’t know how to actually reason out solutions. He won’t listen to experts and he doesn’t read, how can a loser of a human being with no innate ability to think things through, solve problems instead of making them all worse? Trump’s operating program is simply narcissism. What makes him look good and feel good right now, that is the alpha and omega of his thought process. Nothing can or will be solved with this moronic man-child in the Whte House. We have to do what we have to do to make it to November to body slam him then until January 2021 to throw him out and bring in people who can make things better. I read a quote on the internet, can’t remember who said it but it was something to the effect of, “To those who have lived with entitlement, equality is seen as losing their rights.” Being born into entitlement creates a blindness at first. Kids only know the life they’re living as the way things are and are supposed to be. For those who mentally mature and gain the ability of perspective, what they took for granted when they were young gives way to the painful reality of racism and entitlement. For those who remain immature, selfish and insecure about their own inadequacy, holding onto the entitlement they realize their skin color gave them, is a desperate and necessary life preserver. The corruption in our institutions is so rooted in this. Today, Trump freaked out and yelled at governors to be more violent and oppressive towards black people who are protesting…which they are doing because a black man was murdered by white authorities who were being more violent and oppressive. This looks like nothing more than a desire to double down on racism and turn up the flames of a race war. I think for the most part, most of White America may be racist to one degree or another. However, most are not consciously racist, in the back of their minds is a sense of “us and them” but they would not say or do demeaning things towards people of color and don’t act against them. But others may vote for someone like Trump and rationalize that they’re doing it for economic reasons or to shake up the system while deep down, they’re not overlooking his racism but connecting with it. Action is what’s needed at this point but it’s hard to imagine any profound action without national leadership and commitment. Governors and mayors can take substantial steps and should be pushed to do so, like cleansing police forces of racists/white nationalists, that should be some low-hanging fruit. But the institutional changes needed in the country need a President leading them. So while I agree that things need to be done now, until and unless we throw a racist like Trump out of power, I can’t see how anything gets done nationally. We have to win the 2020 election and put Biden in Trump’s place. And we need to use the election campaign to press Biden, who is already on this page in almost every way, to prepare racial equality, police reform and economic injustice policies between now and Inauguration Day 2021 so he can hit the ground running to implement them ASAP (in a hopefully Democratically-controlled Congress). Trump may think that white people, after seeing the looting and fires and chaos, may be driven to him, looking for an authoritarian to rescue them from those evil black people. But I think a majority of Americans are now convicted about how horrible Trump is and instead see his lack of leadership and responsibility as hurting him more. Hiding in his bunker when any other president would be making national addresses, threatening to have the military begin slaughtering Americans when any other president would be trying to bring peace and calm the situation. His delusion that this is helping him will come crashing down on him in about 5 months. The protests are resonating around the world, happening in Berlin, London, all over the world. It has hit a powerful chord, the rebellion against injustice, racism and oppression. The people of the U.S. and of the world seem ready for a big change to come to confront and prevail over these evils. But things always move slower than they should because hateful creatures of the status quo, like Trump, stand in their way. I think a Biden Admin could make big strides in all of these areas, pushed by an activated public. So while I hope state and local authorities step up in the meantime, taking down the personification of white privilege and racism, Donald Trump and replacing him with someone who is responsive to the people, which I think Biden would be, needs to be a top priority. » Posted By AdLib On June 1, 2020 @ 1:51 pm Is Trump Getting Away With Murder? Trump thinks the public actually believes he’s 6′ 3″ and 230 pounds. We can all see with our own eyes that he is morbidly obese, probably closer to 300 pounds and most know that he is hiding all kinds of medical conditions from the public, very possibly including diabetes. When Trump speaks, the truth is often the opposite of what he says. When he babbled about maybe he should take insulin, to my Trump decoder, it meant, “I’m diabetic and I’m taking insulin right now.” Just as when he claimed he was taking hydroxychloroquine, I assumed he wasn’t but just claiming it because of all the news that the medical world was warning it made it more likely for people to have health problems and die. His vanity is cartoonish and transparent. My impression was he was such a class act and good guy, still very down to Earth. If you’ve seen that Tom Petty documentary, he’s featured in a good portion of it, highlighting his influence on Petty’s career and of course, their collaboration in The Traveling Wilburys. He’s well known to folks who really know music but I was just saying, I don’t think he’s as well known to the general public as his talent and accomplishments should make him.
