GOP Revealed to be a Fox Reality Show

When I hear his name I always think of Bob Stupak who owned Bob Stupak’s Vegas World and Stratosphere Casino in Vegas (is it still around?).

A cheesier guy you couldn’t find, I used to get mailers from them all the time, very old school at the low rent end of the strip.

Perfect company for Bart. Then again, if he’s Bart can I play Homer and get mad at him the same way?

I’m right with you on this. She was “born” nationally as a stunt and her whole presence on the national scene has been one stunt after another.

Maybe the reverse is true, would there be a Sarah Palin if reality shows hadn’t become popular when they did? Who knows?

I do think the curtain has been raised on the GOP and Fox being obvious collaborators in propaganda that is very scripted in cooperation with each other.

Can you believe that such a thing is the case in the United States of America? An open arrangement by a major media outlet to work with a political party to spread propaganda, intended to grab political power?

Sounds like another country, not America.

Yes, it’s been common knowledge for some time but once Obama was elected and Fox hosted and promoted tea parties, that was the moment where they declared themselves an official propaganda arm of the GOP.

Bringing Palin on as a commentator? How blatant does it have to get.

Obama would never support it but I wish the FCC would jump in and pull their license for violating a long list of provisions. They should make some as well that prevent a network from acting as a tool of a political party.

True but they will make up or cherry pick numbers that suit them and their agenda and dispute, ignore or disqualify numbers that don’t.

I think it must be taken as a given that the GOP will never join the rest of us in reality because reality doesn’t accommodate the lies they need to hang their agenda on.

They will never be convinced by anything. Even elections. So, we have to battle them eternally along the way to elections that their lies can’t reverse.

I wish there was some way to take a real pulse from the American people. Say a voting day to find out where people really are and what they are thinking instead of all these polls that are skewed to get the answer the pollster wants.

That won’t change any minds in the GOP, last time we did that in Nov 2008, their first act was to declare the winner illegitimate and claimed he was born in Nigeria.

The basic fact we have to accept is that all that those in the GOP care about is power and money. It really is that simple, truth is not on their list.

They will deny that the sun rises in the morning and accuse it of socialism for spreading free energy and light to everyone on Earth, if it conflicts with their goals.

I know you’re going to do a brilliant job on this, your introduction validates this.

This is a very profound and insidious situation. Under Bush we had a pseudo theocracy, Evangelists from Bob Jones, Liberty University, etc. were in key positions in the DoJ, DoD, making decisions over and smothering scientific advances…one can only imagine how much we were set back by all of this.

Not to mention those wanting to hasten End Times so Jesus can come back.

There is some fascinating and scary stuff to explore here, thank you so much for sharing this series with us!

I do think that harboring a lot of hatred can eat you up from inside but as I mentioned on Cher’s post, hatred is as natural an emotion as love.

Justifiable anger can lead people to do very positive things, like vote out Repubs and put Barack Obama in the White House. Unjustified anger can cause people to do horrible things, like make death threats against Pres. Obama.

I think balance is the key in life, falling on one side or the other of moderation can cause problems.

I like that my anger can motivate me to make a difference. However, as you point out, it is important too to appreciate the things that validate ones feelings about the way things should be.

No need to mention how destructive hate can be but using the most familiar example, Chamberlain’s appeasement of Hitler turned out to contribute to WW II and eventually, the Holocaust. Pacifism is sometimes the right choice, as it would have been towards Iraq but was the wrong choice towards Hitler.

My POV is that it is appropriate to feel outraged towards those who express hateful or destructive views or act upon them. But one can’t live on anger alone and I agree that it is valuable to focus on the affirmative as well to keep a balance and not be swallowed up by cynicism or spite.

HATE IN AMERICA, Part 4: What Can Be Done to Combat Hate

Terrific article again, Cher!

I think it is realistic to accept that we as a society can no more eliminate hate than we can fear or love or any human emotion. We can however, as you describe, try to contain it and reduce the intensity and the expression of it into emotional and physical violence.

We discussed this over yonder during the election, that if Obama won, it would drive the racists in this nation insane. Who’s surprised? It doesn’t mean we’re not also disappointed that these types are still in such numbers.

Haters and racists do need to be confronted, we all know what timidity and appeasement leads to…greater hatred and aggression. It is a poison that only spreads and becomes more potent if not disrupted.

What is interesting, which your series on hatred examines, is what is at the root of this hatred by white, lower income, less-well educated people. Why does the color of the president’s skin affect them so personally to make them spew hatred?

Is it not the very fact of them being white, lower income, less-well educated people? For many, aren’t they just following the finger of blame pointed by the GOP at welfare recipients (blacks) and illegal immigrants (latinos) as stealing the American Dream from them? Hasn’t the GOP enforced that “they” are to blame for the predicament of these poor, ignorant white people?

And hasn’t that scapegoating been done to send them on a wild goose chase while the GOP helps corporations continue to steal the American Dream from them and millions more?

Historically, the most heinous tyrants scapegoat the minority or the weakest group to turn the rightful focus on them for being the oppressors, to others that are easy to hate as “the others”?

Is such hatred not proven as a tool for dominating the very people who are hating and consolidating political and economic power over them?

Hatred, like any tool can be used destructively or constructively. The anger that the Bush Admin inspired created the rise of the Progressive movement and President Obama’s election. The anger many of us have towards the corporations dominating our nation is inspiring us to become active and involved in reversing that.

Anger and hatred can be great motivators for positive change…or for terrible acts and destruction.

We can’t and shouldn’t end hatred but we can and should work hard to contain it as best we can from growing and being used to destroy.
