In the online world, I am very much the same as I am in the ‘real’ world. I chose the moniker Abbyrose for the following reasons: I use the moniker Abbyrose on all the forums I frequent. I want to remain me wherever I go. I do not have any socks and don’t intend on creating one. As to my AV…when I first arrived on HP, I used my real picture, but than I started changing it periodically until I settled on one that I liked and most there associate with my online name…Jackie O. I chose her because she embodied many traits that I admired and I liked that she was a real lady. Not that I always mirror her traits, but I would like to aspire to be like she. When I left HP, I left my familiar AV behind and decided from now on, I would use a picture of the REAL me. So now my AV, is me! I see no reason to hide what I look like on line. If was walking down the street or at the mall, many people would see me; if they really wanted to, they could find out who I am by seeing me in person. But I realize not everyone feels that way. My daughter is in and out of the hospital A LOT. As a result, I’ve become very astute at how to handle her situation and the hospital. (She is an epileptic). In addition to my daughter, I was the primary care giver for my dad, when he was alive and helped care for my mother when SHE was alive. My father had heart issues and renal issues. My mother had cancer. My ex husband was stabbed and almost killed in a robbery attempt…for five years we were in out of the hospital with his issues. Between ALL of them, I probably have logged as many hospital hours as an intern. I’m not joking…21 years in and out of the hospital, at least, once every 2 months. Fighting with insurance companies, staying on top of doctors and nurses, working with the staff at VARIOUS hospitals. Shoot, I got on a first name basis with many of the administrators. I WAS and still am, the patient advocate for my family. Your piece provided many many good tips, especially for those who aren’t hospital veterans! For me the health care fiasco in this nation…is a huge issue and I’m very passionate, myself as to trying to fix it. The things I’ve seen in my 21 years dealing with the US health care industry would make people’s toes curl. I would add, to your great list, not to be intimidated by the system, the people, the doctors…or anyone who is giving you care. DON’T feel you can’t question them or take issues up with higher authorities if need be. 1. Abby is a derivative of my real name.
2. The rose part came from my belief that it sounded pretty with Abby, and it references my hair color as well as that some used to say I looked liked like the character Rose in Titanic.
3. It suits me, the real me, and I had determined when I started blogging, that I wanted to remain myself BUT wanted some anonymity while on line
4. Also, because if I ever do finally get up the nerve to try to really be an author my pen will be…Abby Rose Valenty. (It’s ALWAYS been a dream of mine, to be an professional writer.)
I think they definitely ALL provided so many good thoughts on the human experience and what makes us tick as individuals and how the various motivating factors within us provide our perceptions on what we are capable of achieving or not….I can’t wait for the next part…so I can get my own thoughts together on what you provided.
