At a time in our nation's history when our Supreme Court has chosen the wealthy to dominate our politics and the press has mostly abandoned their duty to empower the public with truth, how can the people find their way back to a true and responsive democracy?
It might be ironic if Fundamentalist Christians made the decision to divorce from Republicans over the issue of protecting marriage.
How is it that gerrymandering is legal? It is in essence, the power to corrupt democracy. I certainly understand why many politicians would want gerrymandering to continue to be legal but neither they nor anyone else can argue why it is not anti-democratic.
With such an unpopular and xenophobic agenda so desperately desired, might not Trump and Bannon see it to their advantage if a terrorist attack did take place and a frightened public fell in line behind whatever they wanted to do?

Bad guys with guns are always on offense and can kill anyone at any time. Good guys with guns are necessarily on defense and rarely in the vicinity of bad guys with guns...and they could only act AFTER the bad guy has pulled out his gun and shot someone. So no, they don't stop the bad guy from killing.
I went to a church service last night on the anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March at a small AME congregation. Mostly black, mostly middle class farmers. The minister, part time, as he is a farmer too, spoke passionately of the zeal of those protestors who stood up against injustice and of the cause that they lifted up. BUT, he also challenged the congregation to do more than just recall....
A lot of tough questions have to be addressed if we are to have a real conversation about race. And all of us have to face realities without excuses.
The thing is why, as a member nation of the United Nations, would anyone in this country think it ok to withhold certain human rights from certain people? And why would Republicans in Congress hold up re-authorization of a bill for almost two years for the reasons stated above?
