Our legal system has become so arcane and complex, with well intentioned rules and protocol intended to shepherd a decision towards the truth. However, just like our politics, it has also become just another game to manipulate and win, not a genuine search for truth and an application of justice.
The marriage of the white power structure in the South with greed-obsessed businesspeople has borne such "children". In both cases, there is the mentality of the elitist, those who believe not only that they are superior because they are white and male but that this also entitles them to all that they want for themselves, especially when it comes to money and power.
The enemy is small but incredibly powerful, they mount assaults all across the globe on people everywhere but are like terror cells, operating independently but driven by the same philosophies and practicing the same ruthlessness. The enemy is both foreign and domestic and has more destructive power than any army.
They literally wrap themselves in flags (at least flag pins) but if you were to make a checklist of all of America's founding and ongoing principles, as a democracy and society, you'd find a substantial Republican checklist of things they despise.
It might be ironic if Fundamentalist Christians made the decision to divorce from Republicans over the issue of protecting marriage.
Republicans claim they only have a problem with the way they communicate their message. Perhaps this more severe, lost Ryan Budget could be presented in a more appetizing way, perhaps as the wrapper on a Big Mac, so it would get the respect and lengthy consideration it deserves.
The thing is why, as a member nation of the United Nations, would anyone in this country think it ok to withhold certain human rights from certain people? And why would Republicans in Congress hold up re-authorization of a bill for almost two years for the reasons stated above?
Robert's Long War against the Voting Rights Act will be lost because of Scalia's self serving musings from the bench.
Let's say that a large number of people are completely dissatisfied with our government. In the 21st century, what is the best way to change a government that the people feel is tyrannical? The vote, of course. I think the first step is to define tyranny. So let's assume we have done so, now what?
