Welcome to our Live Chat tonight during the first Democratic Presidential Debate! The debate starts at 5:30pm pdt, hope to see you then!
AdLib 15 days ago
i’m early
sillylittleme

Howdy Early!
AdLib 15 days ago
Hey Ad, I’m already swearing at the “pundits”
sillylittleme

That’s what they’re for.
AdLib 15 days ago
They have to fill the down time so they make up all kinds of wack stuff.
AdLib 15 days ago
I have my popcorn and I couldn’t wait to eat my yummy Mexican food so that is digesting. Eyeing the box wine. Ready to smoke a bowl. Hillary 24/7.
sillylittleme

Mmm…sounds good. Any margarita with that?
AdLib 15 days ago
no I have a sangria soda from Mexico, does that count?
sillylittleme

Watching Hillary’s drone running Correct the Record on MSNBC, he’s such a snob and elitist.
AdLib 15 days ago
David Brock, that is.
AdLib 15 days ago
Sangria soda, that sounds tasty!
AdLib 15 days ago
Yuck, can’t believe they haven’t dragged out Lanny Davis yet
sillylittleme

And yes very yummy
sillylittleme

Oh no, he’ll probably climb out from under a rock tonight.
AdLib 15 days ago
He may be on Fox, I have no interest in finding out
sillylittleme

I am going to be looking for a Hillary stumble but I think it will be less likely because Sanders won’t be very aggressive towards her.
AdLib 15 days ago
He may also be Under A Rock?
AdLib 15 days ago
I hope the questions aren’t crap. I suspect they may be weak
sillylittleme

Actually, since CNN is all about ratings and asked intentionally insulting and provocative questions in the GOP debate, I expect them to ask sensationalized questions.
AdLib 15 days ago
Oh yay, maybe they’ll ask them what they think of Trump’s whitened hair
sillylittleme

Hey Kes
sillylittleme

AB long time no see
sillylittleme

Hey AB!
AdLib 15 days ago
Hi Kes!
AdLib 15 days ago
hi folks
escribacat

Hey Escribacat!
AdLib 15 days ago
Hey Escrib
sillylittleme

It’s about to start!
AdLib 15 days ago
Hey, kids! Just trying to get the live stream going from CNN now.
kesmarn

Sounds good Kes!
AdLib 15 days ago
CNN website says it’s a “preview” — hope that doesn’t only a short bit of it.
escribacat

They said they were livestreaming the whole thing, no subscription
sillylittleme

“Commercial message in progress” But of course. That’s capitalism!
kesmarn

Kes, yup commercial for I think banking, we’re getting those and Koch Industries. Yay
sillylittleme

escrib- I think they’re referring to the pre-show which they call a preview.
AdLib 15 days ago
Here we go!
AdLib 15 days ago
BTW, can I start by saying Debbie Wasserman is a horrible person?
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad – only if I can call her a cunt first
sillylittleme

She truly is.
kesmarn

Only 6 debates, trying to keep other Dems from getting national name recognition like Clinton. It’s Dems like her that make me dislike the party.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad – yup,corporatist/controlling
sillylittleme

Escrib – Is the CNN feed running?
AdLib 15 days ago
Love the sports approach to the CNN presentation. Not.
kesmarn

yep
escribacat

CNN is running for me
kesmarn

kes no kidding — this is like a football match
escribacat

slm – Yep, corporatist, controlling, anti-democratic and elitist.
AdLib 15 days ago
I hope he asks about climate change
escribacat

CNN always looks like it’s run by a former pre-school principal, “Look at all the bright and shiny things!”
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad – thanks for adding to the list
sillylittleme

slm – It’s so easy.
AdLib 15 days ago
Hi all
Nirek

I thought Webb was a GOPer
escribacat

Hey Nirek – ready to watch the next president speak?
sillylittleme

Hi Nirek
escribacat

yup
Nirek

Hey Nirek!
AdLib 15 days ago
Escrib – he switched after Iraq
sillylittleme

Just got back from cribbage
Nirek

I don’t remember the National anthem thing from previous years.
kesmarn

Hey, Nirek! Good to see you here!
kesmarn

Sheryl Crow sings the national anthym for the Dem debate, Ted Nugent probably will for the next GOP debate but he’ll change the words to include racist terms.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad – lol
sillylittleme

Kes – Same here, this seems like part of the disgusting infotainment mentality at CNN to present it like a sporting event.
AdLib 15 days ago
Hi Kes , I don’t know how long I can last.
Nirek

Exactly.
kesmarn

What??? Going right to a commercial??? CNN SUCKS!!!
AdLib 15 days ago
So they actually have democrats in Las Vegas?
escribacat

escrib – Lots of Dems, unions are very strong in Vegas.
AdLib 15 days ago
Me neither, Nirek. And I’m not great at multi-tasking (listening , watching and typing) but I’ll give it a try!
kesmarn

Ad – The point is to have as little debate as possible, didn’t you get the memo?
sillylittleme

It’s a purple state.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad, I forgot about VegasBabe!
escribacat

Well….tickticck tick
escribacat

Besides they started it a half hour earlier to add in 30 minutes of commercials
sillylittleme

CNN and all the other “news” stations suck , Ad
Nirek

Yep, lots of Repubs in Vegas but also a lot of Latinos who are Dems.
AdLib 15 days ago
Someone should count the number of commercials. CNN is going to make more money than when the Super Bowl is broadcast!
kesmarn

Interesting that they’re not streaming the commercials
escribacat

This must look crazy to other countries. Selecting a leader as a sports event and selling a bunch of crap in the process.
kesmarn

Nirek – CNN is pretty bad though, like cheap hamburger meat in a very expensive looking package.
AdLib 15 days ago
Gravitas R Us.
kesmarn

I like that lady from Hawii who spoke up about more debates
Nirek

Kes – We have indeed been witnessing the trivializing of our democracy into just a profit producing reality show.
AdLib 15 days ago
Nirek – And then Debbie Wasserman yanked away her invite to tonight’s debate. She’s the worst.
AdLib 15 days ago
Pretty soon there’s going to be the “Talent Segment” where they have to tap dance or juggle.
kesmarn

Nirek – yup apparently vice chairs weren’t even in on a discussion about the debate schedule, glad she spoke up
sillylittleme

Kes – I think I’ll skip the bathing suit competition, don’t want to see Bernie in a Speedo.
AdLib 15 days ago
agreed
Nirek

First commercial banking, second accounting firm
sillylittleme

Or Chris Christie!
kesmarn

Wasserman sure has been pissing people off lately. I used to like her a lot. Haven’t been paying much attention
escribacat

escrib – Yep, I used to think she was okay but she’s just another phony sellout.
AdLib 15 days ago
OK. I’m being massively superficial, but a stylist would be a real asset to poor Chafee here.
kesmarn

Kes, yeah, he looks wishy washy
escribacat

Poor Chafee, he has the charisma of wet washcloth.
AdLib 15 days ago
Kinda like Gumby
escribacat

I used to like her too but she has a dirty trick to keep Bernie from any impromptu debates.
Nirek

‘Fraid so.
kesmarn

Well that was an interesting almost boo about scandals
sillylittleme

Why is he running? He has no skills to win a national competition.
AdLib 15 days ago
Still he’s Brad Pitt and Einstein combined, compared to the GOP.
kesmarn

I don’t know Webb or Chafee at all.
Nirek

Huh oh, it’s hanging
escribacat

Webb also defies understanding. He can’t be too bright thinking Dems would want to elect a Reagan Republican type. He’s so deaf to the modern Dem party.
AdLib 15 days ago
I read something interesting about Webb ages ago….but can’t remember what it was. It was about Iraq I think.
escribacat

Not a huge fan of Webb’s. But again — better than anything on the other side.
kesmarn

Webb used to be a republican?
Nirek

E’cat, his son served in Iraq and Webb snapped at Bush when Bush asked about how his son was doing. Would that have been it?
kesmarn

Webb is a throwback to the past, Dems are not looking for a conservative pro-military, anti-safety net candidate.
AdLib 15 days ago
No they’re not, AdLib.
kesmarn

Ad – I don’t know about that…
sillylittleme

Kes, that doesn’t ring a bell, but that’s interesting.
escribacat

“I can procreate too!”
escribacat

Martin O’Malley actually has been sounding good on the stump but hard to see how he can siphon off Hillary or Bernie voters.
AdLib 15 days ago
In another year someone like O’Malley would be a real contender.
kesmarn

escrib – I am pro procreate!
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad LOL
escribacat

Ad – he’s reasonable, but he has a police problem
sillylittleme

At least the Dem issues are decent issues instead of “save us from the scary Mexicans!”
escribacat

Police problem is right.
Nirek

What’s his police problem?
escribacat

Baltimore.
Nirek

The Baltimore situation?
kesmarn

Bernie is reaching all the viewers, I hope that CNN can draw a bunch
Nirek

Kes – Possibly so, O’Malley might have gotten more attention in another year but he’s still missing a component that would make him strong enough to win.
AdLib 15 days ago
I think O’Malley really has no chance.
kesmarn

Bernie is full of facts!
Nirek

Bernie got applause in the middle of his opening statement, did anyone else so far?
AdLib 15 days ago
no
Nirek

Bernie is not talking about himself at all. Good move, I think!
kesmarn

Go Bernie!!
sillylittleme

Bernie is going to win!!!!
Nirek

Hillary’s turn!
AdLib 15 days ago
Kes- he never does. It’s all about the issues
sillylittleme

SLM, true!
kesmarn

Agreed Kes
Nirek

Hillary is well rehearsed, smooth but not inspirational.
AdLib 15 days ago
Nirek – yes he is and so will we
sillylittleme

Yup
Nirek

Ad – ya think
sillylittleme

Hillary is too lawyerly
escribacat

She’s still figuring it out…
sillylittleme

Escribacat, yes
Nirek

“The opportunity posed by climate change to grow our economy”? Odd take on climate change.
kesmarn

devise?
sillylittleme

HRC has gotten behind some of Bernie issues
Nirek

kes–clean energy jobs
escribacat

Nirek – she has all but copied off his homework lol
sillylittleme

nirek –yes, Bernie has pushed her left
escribacat

SLM yup
Nirek

Hillary is just a “me-too” on Progressive issues.
AdLib 15 days ago
Probably so, e’cat — but no emphasis on tackling climate change…?
kesmarn

That is good es
Nirek

Of course they’d start off with an insulting question towards Hillary.
AdLib 15 days ago
heh there he goes ad
escribacat

except when she supported Goldwater
escribacat

escrib – Yep, they want reality show style conflict. So they ask insulting questions.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad – what did you expect?
sillylittleme

She was prepared for that one.
kesmarn

She does take a beating no matter what she does.
escribacat

There she goes talking about herself
Nirek

ha she’s a progressive my massively HUGE ass
sillylittleme

Yep, to be fair, the questions have already started off as insulting Hillary even though the issue would be fair to pursue, no need to insult though.
AdLib 15 days ago
slm lol
Nirek

Right, AdLib. His tone is very snotty. And that may help her the same way McCarthy inadvertently helped her.
kesmarn

Bernie being bernie
Nirek

McCarthy did help her, a lot
Nirek

Yup sticks to the issues1!
sillylittleme

Kes – Yep, I think it helps candidates who don’t take the bait and get angry back at the questioner.
AdLib 15 days ago
Exactly!
kesmarn

Yes Go Bernie!!!!
sillylittleme

McCarthy gave Hillary a revival.
AdLib 15 days ago
Bernie should say he’s in favor of regulated capitalism. Saying he’s “not a capitalist” is gonna hurt.
kesmarn

so far it is Bernie and hillary
Nirek

Cooper is trying to scare people with the scary “socialist” word
escribacat

What is Hillary saying? She disagrees with Bernie but agrees with him? He’s a dirty socialist but I believe the same thing?
AdLib 15 days ago
Hey Hillary guess what you’ve never voted for small businesses
sillylittleme

Cooper is a massive ass.
AdLib 15 days ago
Chafee was a republican so was Hillary
Nirek

He really is! I didn’t realize what jerk he was. (Anderson Cooper that is.)
kesmarn

“Soft granite”, really? Is Cooper that stupid?
AdLib 15 days ago
Cooper is a sellout. He’s performing the script that CNN wrote for him, being a provocative ass.
AdLib 15 days ago
Baltimore and the police violence and shootings
Nirek

CNN is aping FOX and Cooper is playing right along.
kesmarn

It is too bad, CNN used to do real news
Nirek

Poor CNN and Cooper, they are not going to get the angry, petty conflicts that gave the GOP debate so profitable for them. But it won’t be due to a lack of trying.
AdLib 15 days ago
No reality TV cat fights tonight.
kesmarn

Yup they want to make this a circus
sillylittleme

Kes – Exactly, they know how much money they made from starting fights instead of having a debate when they had the GOP.
AdLib 15 days ago
wont work with dems
Nirek

it wont work with dems
Nirek

Dems are pretty much ALL no-drama.
kesmarn

nope they want to discuss issues
sillylittleme

Nirek – Nope, more discussions with more facts spoken already in this debate than in all of the GOP debates to date.
AdLib 15 days ago
just the facts
Nirek

here comes the gun issue
sillylittleme

close the loopholes!
Nirek

Bernie is strong so far
Nirek

Good move, Bernie. Mention how much the NRA hates you!
kesmarn

yes Kes
Nirek

Kes – the NRA hates all dems
sillylittleme

That’s a badge of honor.
kesmarn

Oh Hill how tough on guns were you?
sillylittleme

that is ok we don’t like the NRA a whole lot either
Nirek

Oh I didn’t realize that the energy companies, banks, etc were held accountable
sillylittleme

Right, Nirek! Being hated by the NRA is something to be proud of!
kesmarn

Good point slm
Nirek

I welcome the hatred of the NRA
sillylittleme

Hillary’s biggest problem is that many see her as unlikeable. Seeing her as the hostile one in the debate may make her think she won the debate but if it affirms how unpleasant she is, she will do worse.
AdLib 15 days ago
Bernie is getting good time
Nirek

Yes, a woman walks a very fine line. (Any woman.) She has to be perceived as strong — but not angry.
kesmarn

Nirek, yes he is
sillylittleme

Kes – yup
sillylittleme

Hi…catch me up…I have CNN on now…
MurphTheSurf3

the lower guys are acutally getting in
Nirek

Hey, Murph and PPO!
kesmarn

Blanket hugs to one and all gathered here tonight!
MurphTheSurf3

Hey – Murph Anderson is being an ass, Hillary is walking a fine line, Bernie’s getting a lot of speaking time
sillylittleme

Hey Pink
sillylittleme

Afternoon all! trying to find Xmission of the debate. CNN LIED! not streamin(in OZ, anyway)
pinkpantheroz

SLM…how is Anderson bein an ass.
MurphTheSurf3

Hey Murph!
AdLib 15 days ago
Murph – trying to start a fight
sillylittleme

That’s just wrong, PPO!
kesmarn

Pink – sorry
sillylittleme

Ad…what is your take so far?
MurphTheSurf3

If Chafee thinks he’s going to be able to negotiate with LaPierre he’s even more naive than he looks.
kesmarn

Kes – he’s trying at least
sillylittleme

well, I’ll try radio somewhere. get back to you when I do.
pinkpantheroz

Did the Repubs get so many substantial issue questions and follow up? Not that I recall, it was mostly turning one’s insults against the other.
AdLib 15 days ago
good point , Ad
Nirek

Ad – too many contestants
sillylittleme

One theory I’ll float is that the more people see of Hillary, the less they’ll like her.
AdLib 15 days ago
PPO…Vox has a good how to….

http://www.vox.com/2015/10/13/9512873/democratic-debate-2015-watch-online-streaming-time-tv-schedule

Democratic debate 2015 live stream: time, TV schedule, and how to watch online
Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and more will face off onstage.

MurphTheSurf3

Clowns don’t talk issues
Nirek

Nirek – I don’t think CNN wanted to have an issues debate with the Repubs.
AdLib 15 days ago
Hillary just got dissed
Nirek

It was pretty bad but not as bad as Vietnam
escribacat

agree Ad
Nirek

Nirek – Hillary is hiding behind Obama to escape responsibility for voting for war in Iraq?
AdLib 15 days ago
That was a good escape from a corner
escribacat

Bernie voted against the Iraq war she didn’t
Nirek

Wow, Bernie got points there
Nirek

Bernie’s predictions from back then were very accurate.
kesmarn

yes they were Kes
Nirek

Bernie has a first class mind….no doubt about it but his experience is not……can he bridge the gap? Carter was cut from the same cloth….
MurphTheSurf3

Bernie is on strong ground right now, his judgement on Iraq vs. Hillary’s, she was hugely wrong and he was right.
AdLib 15 days ago
yup Ad he was
Nirek

He was also right on the money when he confronted Greenspan on economic issues.
kesmarn

Murph– experience is not… what?
escribacat

Again i agree kes
Nirek

And isn’t the key thing you’re looking for in a President, good judgement?
AdLib 15 days ago
Let’s not forget that Bernie is constitutionally (naturally) anti-war….so he leaned away as she and Obama leaned in…both positons have their plusses and minuses.
MurphTheSurf3

yes good judgement is most important
Nirek

Murph I do have trouble envisioning Bernie as “commander in chief”
escribacat

Me too Es
Nirek

Although as he said — he did vote for intervention in Kosovo.
kesmarn

S’Cat….Bernie is not nearly as strong in his experience as he is in his wisdom.
MurphTheSurf3

I’d prefer a CIC that would at least think before acting
sillylittleme

Bernie is strong but would rather use diplomacy
Nirek

Hillary’s prepared BS like trying to call O’Malley a hypocrite for endorsing her in 2008, makes her look like the nasty, manipulative person many see her as.
AdLib 15 days ago
Murph – is wisdom no longer a strength?
sillylittleme

SLM…of course it is a strength but so is experience…Bernie is great in one and less so in the other…
MurphTheSurf3

I think wisdom is a real strength!
Nirek

SLM …. but so was Obama
MurphTheSurf3

Murph – agree to disagree
sillylittleme

Go Webb
sillylittleme

escrib – Bernie sure isn’t the guy you’d cast in the role of President ideally but I could imagine Hillary being a very divisive and insincere President.
AdLib 15 days ago
Webb’s against the Iran deal? That figures. This guy should be in the GOP.
kesmarn

Webb knows defense.
MurphTheSurf3

Webb’s against SS and Medicare remaining intact too.
AdLib 15 days ago
“Let’s go to war with China”!!
escribacat

Webb also is more GOP than Dem.
MurphTheSurf3

sounds like a republican to me
Nirek

Webb worked for Reagan Admin.
AdLib 15 days ago
I think Bernie’s right. Putin will regret this move in Syria and Obama has also said as much.
kesmarn

and russia is not in good financial shape
Nirek

No, those sanctions are hurting, Nirek.
kesmarn

She just got snippy
sillylittleme

Remember they broke up the USSR after Afghanistan
Nirek

Kes – It’s clear that Putin is upset about the fallout for invading Ukraine…but as a sociopath, I don’t think he regrets having done it.
AdLib 15 days ago
SLM…I like her snippy!
MurphTheSurf3

Snippary?
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad
sillylittleme

No, I don’t think Putin regrets it yet, AdLib. But the day will come — when Russia will regret it, if not Putin personally.
kesmarn

as a vet I respect Bernie!
Nirek

Murph – I don’t know if that’s going to help her though, her biggest adversary is the perception of her as an unpleasant, untrustworthy person. So will being hostile win voters over to her? Don’t know about that.
AdLib 15 days ago
Hey folks. I’m not watching the debate, but following on Twitter. Thought I’d drop by to read your commentary. Hope everyone is well.
Sabreen60

What an obnoxious question!
kesmarn

Hey Sabreen!
AdLib 15 days ago
Hey, Sabreen!
kesmarn

Ad….I do not place limits on women using the tools of rhetoric to make a point….in this case for men it is snark, for women snip.
MurphTheSurf3

yup he was right about vietnam
sillylittleme

hey sabreen
sillylittleme

Webb’s answer was gracious. Too bad he’s not a GOPer and there aren’t more GOPers like him
escribacat

It is not freaking illegal to be a conscientious objector to a war like the Vietnam war!
kesmarn

Thanks kes! I agree
Nirek

And you know what you’re talking about Nirek! You were there!
kesmarn

Kes – With Russia in economic decline right now, they should be regretting the invasion because sanctions combined with the dip in oil prices is hammering their economy. But the propaganda in Russia is blaming it all on the US and the West and that works to re-direct their anger away from Putin, where it should be.
AdLib 15 days ago
If my Dad had not been a career soldier I would have done as bernie did
Nirek

I’ve read that Putin is still popular in Russia, AdLib. Have to wonder how long that can last though.
kesmarn

Issues I love it
Nirek

Murph – Hillary is being hostile towards Bernie, he is not being hostile towards her. It’s not a woman/man thing, it’s a personal hostility vs. no personal hostility.
AdLib 15 days ago
All of these people are better than anyone on the GOP side of the f ence.
MurphTheSurf3

I totally agree, Murph. A panel of adults. Imagine!

Ad, Hillary doesn’t sound that hostile to me.

MurphTheSurf3

I agree with Bernie — biggest threat is climate change!!!
escribacat

That was a great answer!
kesmarn

Yes Es
Nirek

Imagine that same “threat” question applied to the GOP?
MurphTheSurf3

Kes – Putin is enormously popular in Russia. He controls the national media and outlawed opposition media so every bad thing he causes for Russia is twisted into being an assault by the West on Russia and the people rally even more to Putin’s side. I don’t know how such brainwashed people ever turn against their government. They sure can’t in North Korea.
AdLib 15 days ago
And now it’s time to sell some stuff…
kesmarn

escribacat

S’cat…exactly….our borders!
MurphTheSurf3

That’s scary, AdLib. I realize he controls the media and all, But whatever happened to people like the Pussy Riot girls of just a few years ago?
kesmarn

Kes….Medvedev was in charge then….what have you heard of him lately…despite his role as number 2 in the government?
MurphTheSurf3

sillylittleme

Murph – That’s cool, just saying that I think her attempts to look strong come off as artifically forced and to some who already have a view of her being insincere or unpleasant, I don’t know that it will bring them over to her. Also, when a front runner has to go more aggressive on a challenger, it makes them look worried and weaker.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad…you could be correct, but she looks sickly when she takes the meek and mild tone.
MurphTheSurf3

Ad – she has never had to have a “real” public face. She needs Elizabeth Warren lessons
sillylittleme

If one of the candidates wanted to hammer the theme of bad judgement on Hillary, using Iraq, email server, etc., that could be effective.
AdLib 15 days ago
SLM…Liz Warren Lessons. Yes.
MurphTheSurf3

Hillary did leverage the Benghazi Committee crap very well.
AdLib 15 days ago
She’s right tho, Ad
escribacat

That committee had one purpose — to try to nail Clinton
escribacat

Ouch! “I never said it wasn’t legitimate”?
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad – those are all red herrings. She did most of the negotiating for the TPP, but is walking it back. Same with Keystone XL.
sillylittleme

escrib – I do agree with that, the committee was indeed, as she said, a tool of the RNC to bring her down.
AdLib 15 days ago
Anderson Cooper actually seems to actively dislike Clinton. And it shows.

Difference between Bernie and Hillary. When Obama was being unfairly attacked for Rev. Wright, Hillary jumped on the attack. When Hillary is being unfairly attacked over emails, Bernie sides with her and speaks out on the unfairness.
AdLib 15 days ago
Chafee is circling the drain even as we speak.
kesmarn

Yes!
kesmarn

Escrib – Yep, O’Malley is pretty good. Just doesn’t have the horses to outdo Hillary and Bernie.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad, agreed
escribacat

Ad – He really is a good man. Notice who is missing?
sillylittleme

Murph – Excellent point, we’ve seen multiple instances of the Dem candidates supporting each other but the GOP debates? It’s like individuals claiming the same party membership but wholly adversaries of each other.
AdLib 15 days ago
slm – Biden?
AdLib 15 days ago
Murph – I think Hillary sounding more reasonable right now is a stronger tone for her.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad…yes….Biden….is anyone missing him…..I think not….
MurphTheSurf3

Ad – a pineapple upside down cake for you!!
sillylittleme

Thanks slm, sounds good!
AdLib 15 days ago
So far so good
Nirek

There doesn’t appear to be a hole in the party that needs Biden to fill it. He could run but it would be a tough uphill battle he might not win. After tonight, do folks here think Biden will or won’t get in?
AdLib 15 days ago
Webb very weak on race issues, I think.
kesmarn

I never thought Biden was running. Especially after he basically told Colbert not gonna happen.
sillylittleme

No he doesn
Nirek

My sense is that Biden won’t run. I could be wrong though.
kesmarn

Kes – Not surprising for a very conservative southerner.
AdLib 15 days ago

kesmarn

We’re going to have to build lots of new ocean walls
escribacat

I think that Clinton’s rebound in recent weeks (a combo of GOP truthiness and her stubborness) has made Biden a side show.
MurphTheSurf3

There Cooper goes with his Hillary bashing again. It’s pretty obvious.
kesmarn

Kes – I agree. I think before McCarthy’s “gaffe” defusing Hillary’s email scandal and now this strong showing by the Dem field, I thought he would run but now I’d have to agree, I think Biden is less likely to run now.
AdLib 15 days ago
We need to get those idiots out of the House of Reps too

Hillary’s plan is tougher, keeping the big banks too-big-to-fail instead of breaking them up as Bernie has said? Nope.
AdLib 15 days ago
Fact checkers have to be giddy….SO MANY FACTS TO CHECK….vs the GOP experience…
MurphTheSurf3

Adlib, if we break up the big american banks, then the big overseas banks will eat them.
escribacat

S’cat, thank you…yes.
MurphTheSurf3

Hillary is defending the protection of bigger and fewer banks.
AdLib 15 days ago
We are the foreign banks. Without the dollar the world house of cards falls apart. We break them up, makes it easier to break up all the others. Time for Switzerland and other secret bank countries to be held to account.
sillylittleme

Bernie’s line about “Wall Street regulates Congress” resonates with the public.
kesmarn

sillylittleme

K Street backs Hillary.
AdLib 15 days ago

MurphTheSurf3

escribacat

O’Malley, Clinton, Sanders are strong orators on their feet…..
MurphTheSurf3

I think we can agree that this is actually a debate on the issues, where the GOP debates are an insult competition. And since the front runners in the GOP don’t come from public service, they have no stands on issues to discuss.
AdLib 15 days ago
Chafee just wiped himself out.
kesmarn

Anderson is being a real jerk…enough for me to write to CNN tomorrow.
MurphTheSurf3

He really has been a total ass.
kesmarn

Poor Chafee, he just tucked himself into bed with his rationalizing his bad vote. Bye Chafee, we hardly knew ya.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad — we’re also watching adults instead of children
escribacat

Go Murph – give him a piece of all of our minds
sillylittleme

Cooper that is.
kesmarn

Here’s what I observe re most issues. The candidates act like they can say “be” and it “is”. Republicans were never going to agree with Bernie Sanders or other very liberal policies. I’m waiting for someone to admit that they will have to compromise with Republicans.
Sabreen60

Sabreen–Hillary said something along those lines early on.
escribacat

Sab…in practice yes, but elections are about hopes and inspiration…and Dems do not want to hear about compromising with the Party of NO!
MurphTheSurf3

Sabreen – I don’t think any candidate is going to say “It’s pointless for me to say what I want to do because Repubs in Congress will block it.” It’s really more about presenting a vision in a positive way, even if realities will block them, we at least know what they will be fighting for.
AdLib 15 days ago
Right. The GOP already looks so crazy that promising to deal with them is problematic.
kesmarn

kes — good point. “Compromise” doesn’t even seem to be part of the equation any more.
escribacat

Murph, I don’t know about all Dems. I’m a realist like Joe Biden. I’d rather hear the truth rather than a lot of platitudes.
Sabreen60

I find myself really listening to these people – they have ideas.
MurphTheSurf3

Well Bernie always says that we must vote and if we vote in overwhelming numbers for Ds we can get a lot more done.
sillylittleme

They’re reality-based people — which is very refreshing after the GOP debacles.
kesmarn

Sab….it is a matter of tactics.
MurphTheSurf3

kes – Unless the Republicans disappear from the House and the Senate what choice will any President have but to deal with them. Congress makes the laws. Not the President.
Sabreen60

Sabreen – I think vision is important in a presidential candidate. Generally speaking, I think a candidate who can help move an issue forward needs to energize the public towards it.
AdLib 15 days ago
AdLib – I said nothing about vision. Of course a candidate needs vision. I just wish one would have the guts to say “I want to do this or that and will stand up to and even fight with the Republicans to get it done. IMO, the problem that Prez Obama had is that people expected him to everything by himself. Americans need a good dose of reality.
Sabreen60

Sabreen – I believe that is what Bernie’s campaign is about
sillylittleme

Sab….I think that Sanders, Clinton and O’Malley have spoken with determination re. the recalcitrant and obstructive GOP.
MurphTheSurf3

Sabreen – Agreed, Americans should understand that whatever a Presidential candidate stands for, they need voters to support them by voting for majorities in Congress to make them happen.
AdLib 15 days ago
Jim Webb looks so stiff, it’s giving me a sore neck.
AdLib 15 days ago
slm – With all due respect I don’t think so. I have not heard him come down on Republicans or say that he will have to fight to have any of his policies enacted.
Sabreen60

Webb does look very rigid — in more than one way.
kesmarn

I am fewing rather proud of my party right now.
MurphTheSurf3

My problem with this debate, no descriptions of imaginary abortions, no name calling…hey, Hillary just said the same thing, props to her for that.
AdLib 15 days ago
Good for Hillary for putting things in perspective re: the GOP
kesmarn

There Clinton finally came down on Republicans re immigrants.
Sabreen60

AdLib, where is the weeping faux-religion? The saccharine “patriotism”? Where’s the fear-mongering?
kesmarn

Murph – Which is why I strongly dislike Debbie Wasserman Schultz for rigging the Dem primary to have so few debates. The more debates Americans see side by side, Republicans and Democrats, would only help whoever the Dem nom is.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad Lib…I fully agree…she has some good reasons for wanting not to have the candidates trapped by too many debates but the current number is just plain silly.
MurphTheSurf3

Ad Lib…I wonder if Hillary starts to regain ground if Schultz will shift on this.
MurphTheSurf3

Ad – all self-fulfilling prophecies backfire. DWS isn’t as smart as she thinks she is
sillylittleme

Kes – And the Repubs are all about how horrible America is today while Dems talk about how it’s better than it was under Bush but it needs to get better. A message of doom and gloom vs. making the country better? Which message will win?
AdLib 15 days ago
Hey VB
sillylittleme

I wish someone would tell Anderson to cool it.
MurphTheSurf3

Hi, VegasBabe…..I don’t think we have met…welcome.
MurphTheSurf3

murph, why? He’s being assertive with his questioning as he should be!!
VegasBabe

Murph – It is to Hillary’s benefit to have the fewest numbers of debates. Poll numbers are strongly based on name recognition and the less national exposure for other Dems who don’t have 100% name recognition like Hillary hurts them.
AdLib 15 days ago
Hi VB!
AdLib 15 days ago
VB…he is driving the debate in such a way to stir up conflict with little concern for depth or clarity.
MurphTheSurf3

Adlib: are you supporting HRC?
VegasBabe

Ad…good point.
MurphTheSurf3

Well, you may have a point there but it’s the mutual excitement and his desire to get to the actual response, don’t you think?
VegasBabe

VB- If Hillary became the Dem nom, I would vote for her, any Repub would be worse. However, I am not supporting her in the primary.
AdLib 15 days ago
Cooper’s interruptions are absurd.
MurphTheSurf3

Awwww Murph! He’s doing the best he can
VegasBabe

VB…I’d like to think so…but I wonder about his agenda.
MurphTheSurf3

Murph – The interruptions by Cooper are intended to unnerve the candidates and hopefully, from CNN’s POV, get them to burst out angrily or say something they shouldn’t.
AdLib 15 days ago
I wish Biden would finally jump in, what’s he waiting for?
VegasBabe

Ad…probably and it is part of the anchor culture…to slay pollitical dragons.
MurphTheSurf3

VB – he’s not running
sillylittleme

BS talks a good game but so did Obama, not knowing the obstructionism he’d face, ofcourse BS is white but I still don’t think he can accomplish half of what he’s claiming.
VegasBabe

Bernie sounds like Noam Chomsky
escribacat

Murph – Actually, I find it more from the world of reality tv than journalism. Good journalists don’t need to insult and interrupt in general.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad….yes.
MurphTheSurf3

escribat, YES he does but Noam for me is more credible, more believable but maybe that’s because he’s not in the running.
VegasBabe

SO….we have a break…assessments so far?
MurphTheSurf3

How long is this thing?
escribacat

Isn’t this the coolest, to watch the debate and be able to communicate as well on our thoughts. I like it!
VegasBabe

I’d say HRC, Bernie, and O Malley are doing well.
escribacat

VB – Bernie’s in The Senate, he knows very well what it’s like in Congress with Repubs blocking everything. He just explained that he’s trying to inspire Americans to come out and vote to change Congress and the WH.
AdLib 15 days ago
How juvenile — if Cooper actually plans to ask each candidate whether he/she has smoked weed. Grow the hell up Anderson.

VegasBabe

I’d like someone to say that hemp would really help the environment
sillylittleme

Exactly — even Ohio — under Kasich — has not one but two MJ legalization issues on the Nov ballet. It’s irrelevant and a waste of time. But what else is new with Cooper?
kesmarn

escribat, well you found one.
VegasBabe

How about Cooper asking Dems if they believe in evolution? And science? Good contrast to the Repubs.

I cannot express how much I want a woman for President. That would be a big part of our nation growing up…I wish Hillary was better as a candidate but there seem to be signs tat she is measuring up.
MurphTheSurf3

Bernie’s point about his grass roots status is a very strong point.
AdLib 15 days ago
I saw the debate advertised to begin at 11pm est. What’s going on?
KillgoreTrout

KT so did I but we’ll probably pick it up again on CNN, they run everything over and over and over and over again.
VegasBabe

#^*!#@*()!
KillgoreTrout

Murph – 70, 4 yrs younger than Bernie. I think he’d agree to 4 years if he could get the ball rolling along. We need her in the Senate for this to work. And lots more Ds in the House and Senate. Totally doable. If we get out and vote.
sillylittleme

escrib – Absolutely! No more nukes!
AdLib 15 days ago
No more nukes and NO MORE WARS!
VegasBabe

For many Dems, this is the first time they’ve heard Bernie speak, I think he has a lot to gain from this performance. Hillary has been doing just fine, I think her numbers firm up.
AdLib 15 days ago
I think Biden’s decision is now made…..a happy retirement.
MurphTheSurf3

My respect for Clinton has jumped several spots tonight….and I am surprised.
MurphTheSurf3

Murph – I think that’s probably the case, no apparent lane for Biden right now after seeing a smart debate like this and Hillary’s email situation defused.
AdLib 15 days ago
Hillary just called that woman reporter a GOP sympathizer…and now she has taken on the broader woman issues.
MurphTheSurf3

murph….hmmmmm….she is not showing the contempt she did for any of these candidates she demonstrated against Obama in 08! Someone has spent a lot of time working with this woman!

Hillary is showing off her calculating side on pot.
AdLib 15 days ago
Clinton’s caution on marijuana would have been rejected by me just a short while back but I have too many doctor friends who want it decriminalized but not put on a freeway to easy access because they are concerned about the unintended consequences
MurphTheSurf3

They’ve done well — very well. Except — maybe — for poor Chafee.
kesmarn

Go Bernie!!
sillylittleme

Sabreen – Bernie’s now saying it straight up, that nothing can be accomplished without voters replacing Repubs in Congress.
AdLib 15 days ago
Neither chaffee or webb are ready for this but both are sincere and generally thoughtful….
MurphTheSurf3

Ad – he says it in EVERY speech.
sillylittleme

Doctors are opposing liberal access to MJ here too, Murph. They’ve taken a stand against Ohio Issue #3 on MJ.
kesmarn

Well, they posted it in a super, what do folks here think as to who’s winning or will benefit most from their performance in the debate?
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad, I think you’re right about Bernie needing the exposure more than Hillary. He’s done a really good job so I’ll bet he comes out a winner. Even though she and OMalley both did well too
escribacat

Adlib: sorry to say it but HRC seems to be winning with BS following with a strong second.
VegasBabe

Bernie, Hillary and O’Malley all benefited I think.
kesmarn

Kes pot is WHOLE lot stronger nowadays than it was when I was a hippie smoker
escribacat

Kes – Because doctors will get less visits when folks can use medical marijuana for certain conditions.
AdLib 15 days ago
Bernie is knocking it out of the park. Hill still has to find her heart
sillylittleme

WInner? The Triad- Clinton and Sanders a bit ahead of a respectably performing O’Malley.
MurphTheSurf3

AdLib – No one wishes gerrymandering didn’t exist more than me. However, in polls 90% of Americans want background checks but the Republicans said FU. These districts are here to stay until census in 2020. So I think it’s going to be easier said than done.
Sabreen60

Ad – excellent point
sillylittleme

Yeah Adlib, I think your spot on! Doctors don’t wish to have anything interfere with their revenue including healing!
VegasBabe

Ad…none of the doctors I know oppose medical use IF legit (and not a bofus front).
MurphTheSurf3

Ad, and bg pharama will lose a lot in prescription sales.
KillgoreTrout

Sab – not so in FL, there is pushback
sillylittleme

AdLib, won’t they still need to get prescriptions for medical MJ though? (This is one issue you can tell I haven’t researched.)
kesmarn

GO O’MALLEY
VegasBabe

Well done agian, Hillary, I must say.
kesmarn

Coal Lobby, NRA, Clinton’s Long List with the GOP on the summit, Wall Street and Pharma, and a silly answer from Webb.
MurphTheSurf3

Oh come on webb.
KillgoreTrout

Hi gang. What’s the consensus on the debate?
glenn

Sabreen – True, it will be very difficult until the 2020 census but if there was enough of a groundswell against Repubs, who knows what might happen? We certainly can get The Senate back, it would take a miracle turnout to get the House back but if they shutdown government and/or didn’t raise the debt ceiling, maybe…
AdLib 15 days ago
Webb = FAIL. He’s allied with most of the enemies of Progressives so that’s all he could grasp for.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad, yeah Webb is in the wrong party
escribacat

AdLib – Definitely the Senate. The House….not so much, but we’ll see.
Sabreen60

Hey Glenn
sillylittleme

Do they change the districts in census years?
escribacat

Ad, that was a cheap play by webb.
KillgoreTrout

Hey glenn. First a very solid, substantive, sincere, effort. Second, they all respected each other. Third, Clinton and Sanders did VERY well, and O Malley did well.
MurphTheSurf3

Yeah Webb even looks like a rethug!
VegasBabe

Chafee ending on the exact same speech he started with — word for word. Not good.
kesmarn

Hiya glenn. How are you?
Sabreen60

Hillary, Bernie and O’Malley were all solid. I think Hillary’s numbers stay solid, Bernie’s may move up a little though now that he’s gotten national exposure on the stage beside Hillary. Maybe O’Malley bumps up a little. So, it was a successful debate for all Dems…though the nominal candidates won’t go anywhere.
AdLib 15 days ago
I don’t think so webb.
KillgoreTrout

Murph–thanks for the synopsis. Do you think the debate will help O’Malley in the polls? Sounds like Clinton and Sanders will probably stay the same, no? Or, do you think one or the other will gain?
glenn

O’Malley also nailed it with comparing their debate to Repubs!
AdLib 15 days ago
Yes he did! Good move on his part!
VegasBabe

O Malley will be seen as one who belongs on the stage….very inspiring.
MurphTheSurf3

Hi, glenn! What do you think?
kesmarn

I like O’Malley, from the little I’ve seen.
KillgoreTrout

I repeat….I am very proud to be a Progressive Democrat tonight.
MurphTheSurf3

He’d make a good VP…..POTUS I don’t know….
VegasBabe

Agreed, O’Malley may get the biggest relative bump (since he’s in the low single figures).
AdLib 15 days ago
I like O’Malley too, Homie. I just don’t think this is his year.
kesmarn

Well said OMalley
escribacat

You’re right Homie. It’s going to be either Hillary or Bernie.
KillgoreTrout

Really liked O’Malley’s closing.
Sabreen60

Sorry, all, I was typing and somehow or another hit a key that closed the site. Anyway, I cannot watch the debates live, so I depend on you all to help me figureitallout. So Kes, I don’t know what to think yet, since I haven’t seen any clips or anything. SLM and Sabreen, I’m not ignoring you; just trying to catch up.
glenn

Didn’t like Bernie plugging his website and asking for donations though at the end of his closing statement.
AdLib 15 days ago
Hey glenn, there you are!
AdLib 15 days ago
Adlib: Yeah that was tacky!
VegasBabe

She is starting to sound a little robotic
sillylittleme

Ad, yeah that was weird!
escribacat

Sorry Glenn, I had a keyboard battery failure earlier. I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t respond…
sillylittleme

I’d like someone to define “hard working”?? Does that mean only certain occupations? What does that mean?
VegasBabe

O Malley closes very, very strong, Bernie closes strong (minus the commercial for donations), Hillary strong as well but I really love seeing Hillary in the center of that stage….
MurphTheSurf3

Vegas Babe–glad to hear HRC brought passion; one of the biggest criticisms of her is that she is robotic.
glenn

Impressive wrap up by Hillary.
kesmarn

I prefer Bernie as a candidate but compare Hillary to Trump/Carson/Cruz/Fiorina/etc., no contest for reasoning people, whoever wins the Dem nom will be far and above the best President over any Repub.
AdLib 15 days ago
OMalley had the best closing

I was dead tired at the beginning of this…..had to pick up a family of immigrants at 3 AM this morning coming into St. Louis on a bus and get them settled. Have not been to bed since Sunday night…BUT this debate was enlivening.
MurphTheSurf3

VB – “Hard working” in my book is a pandering phrase that has been test marketed for years to be a positive term for voters, everyone sees themselves as “hard working” so they all think it includes and flatters them.
AdLib 15 days ago
Wow murph! That is just toooo cool! Now have a glass of wine and get some sleep!!!
VegasBabe

I’m a Bernie person as well, AdLib. But Hillary is incredibly smart and does recognize reality when she sees it. (Isn’t it sad that not being psychotic is the baseline for these candidates?)
kesmarn

And vindictive homie
KillgoreTrout

Wow Murph, very cool!
AdLib 15 days ago

kesmarn

Although I don’t watch the debates, I was going through websites, like this one, who have live chats. One of them said that the questions were so much more substantive and issue-oriented in this debate than they were in the repub debates. As I read that, I was thinking that if these debates were to really count for something, the same questions should be asked of ALL the candidates; both republican and Democratic. That way, candidates would have to state their positions, instead of attacking each other.
glenn

KT whose vindictive, HRC?

MurphTheSurf3

Murph – YES!!!
sillylittleme

Nite VB
sillylittleme

glenn – I think the questions were more substantial but also, the Repubs always responded with BS to substantial questions, answering instead with garbage and lies. So it’s a self-fulfilling thing in each party’s debates, Repubs are shallow and nasty and their replies are the same, Dems are substantial and know facts so their replies were the same.
AdLib 15 days ago
Our pleasure, VB!
AdLib 15 days ago
Well you all did inspire me to turn on the debate via CNN on Netflix. I really enjoyed all your thoughtful comments. I have no desire to listen to pundits. Good night and see you later.
Sabreen60

Well….a BIG shout out to Ad for hosting this most enjoyable and informative shared discussion….Brilliant, just brilliant.
MurphTheSurf3

Well, as others said earlier, you can feel prouder tonight to be a Dem…and more embarassed than ever to be a Repub.
AdLib 15 days ago
Ad–You’re right. I’m glad to hear that this debate was received well.
glenn

Sanders being interviewed now — Cuomo asking WHY he would throw Hillary a lifeline on the email “scandal”? Corporados just can’t comprehend “doing it just because it’s the right thing to do.” (As Bernie said.)
