I will for a moment then come back. KY. Seriously? Grimes is typical in losing for repudiating basic, core Dem values including the president. My only hope is that McTurtle will STILL not be in charge of the Senate.
choicelady
Hey CL! Yes, Grimes disappointed and de-energized many Dems and humiliated herself by refusing to admit she voted for Obama, let alone all the slaps at him and his policies. As I mentioned in yesterday’s article, this strategy of running as an anti-Dem Dem always fails and it is just plain stupid not to review the history of this self
adlib 20 days ago
…defeating strategy and reject it. If Mitch wins and if the Repubs take control of The Senate, McConnell will unfortunately grab the reins for another unproductive 2 years of Anti-Obamacare proposals and hearings towards impeachment. How much dumber could Repub voters be?
adlib 20 days ago
Hey Adlib. Thought I’d checkk in. So Grimes lost big time. I said on Twitter that I didn’t have to hold my fire anymore. She denied President Obama 4 times. She said nothing when Mitch said KYNect was just a website. She pandered to the racist. She thought the Clintons were her answer from gawd. She lost. IMO, she didn’t deserve to win. Yeah, I would rather have her than Mitch. But I don’t like a coward who panders to racist.
sabreen60

Dems could win some governorships in swing states though which could make 2016 and the Presidential race better for Dems.
adlib 20 days ago
Hi all! I just turned on MSNBC and im depressed already.
kalie
AdLib, that’s true. However, President Obama still has 2 years left in office. I’m more concerned with what will happen in those 2 years than I am in 2016 right now.
sabreen60
It seems like Grimes wanted to have it both ways. Guess that didn’t work.
kalie
Hey Kalie! I’m watching Comedy Central later instead, MSNBC is just going to pump their pundits for predictions of the GOP winning everything until results come in.
adlib 20 days ago
Hi kalie. I haven’t watched TV all day. And I won’t watch tonight. MSNBC has been on a “doom and gloom” quest for Dems for weeks. I simply couldn’t take it.
sabreen60
Sabreen – It won’t be much different than the last 2 years, the Senate will be gridlocked with Dem filibusters and Obama will have to use Executive Orders to accomplish anything.
adlib 20 days ago
Check this out. A friend of mine was voting in Illinois today, and Bruce Rauner
kalie
the Illinois GOP gov candidate is sending college kids into the polling places with Rauner Tshirts on asking to vote. Unfortunately they werent registered there.
kalie
AdLib, I was hoping for different. I’ve watched Republicans attempt to destroy the country in order to destroy President Obama. I was hoping things would get a little better.
sabreen60
Kalie – Exactly, that is the foolishness of some blue dog Dems, they think they can succeed by tarnishing the very party they represent. I don’t get it, that ploy rarely works since most people who want to vote against the Dem party vote for Repubs since it makes more sense.
adlib 20 days ago
Rauners campaign hit the frat houses at my son’s college too, probably paying the frat kids to gotv.
kalie
Kalie – That’s illegal, you can’t campaign at or near polling places, no promotional signs or t-shirts are allowed. What a surprise a Repub would do that!
adlib 20 days ago
Hi folks
greenchica
Sabreen – It is intuitive but maybe not at first glance, if you tread on the status quo, it bites back to protect itself.
adlib 20 days ago
Hey GC!
adlib 20 days ago
I should have poll watched cuz i know that. But i wouldnt have stayed all day anyway.
kalie
Did you read about the mischief in Chicago…robocalls telling election workers they can’t report to the polls until they take a class
greenchica
The poll workers should have kicked those tools out of there, that’s their responsibility.
adlib 20 days ago
Hi chica!

Hi Ad & Sabreen!
greenchica
Ad lib, ive seen gopers around here strong arm old ladies to get into polling places after closing time. They have no limits.
kalie
GC – Nope, didn’t hear about that yet. You know, if people would get prosecuted for violating election laws and went to jail, this might not happen every year.
adlib 20 days ago
I will try to find out more about if they got kicked out. Someone their looked on the voter lists and saw they werent on there. They must have their names.
kalie
Kalie – That’s pretty terrible and yes, poll workers are often seniors so bullying them is to inviting an opportunity for thugs.
adlib 20 days ago
Ad lib i was thinking the same about voter suppression. I say give any suppressors five years in jail and lets see how fast they do that again.

kalie

beatlex, That’s exactly what I thought all along. And her refusal to admit that KYnect is actually ACA (Obamacare). As far as I’m concerned she’s a coward who pandered to the racists and thought the Clintons would save her.
sabreen60
Sabreen she seemed a bit wishy washy and uncommitted to the Dems.
kalie
Hey Beatlex!
adlib 20 days ago
kalie, IMO more than wishy washy. I think she need Dems to be enthusiastic about her. She chose to play up all the things she’s against that Dems are for. Stupid stratgey.

adlib 20 days ago
New Hampshire too close to call?
kalie

Now they are saying Durbin not beating Oberweis….widely varying results depending on channel spin.
kalie
Kalie – Too early to call most…but that doesn’t stop the news channels!
adlib 20 days ago
On MSNBC, Durbin is projected as winner.
adlib 20 days ago
If Kasich won, that doesn’t bode well for Nina Turner.
sabreen60
Not on Chicago tv Adlib. Its funny, depending on which counties get their results in first, you don’t really know how it will go.
kalie
Guess being a Dem and running against Dems still doesn’t work, as Grimes and other Dems are proving.
adlib 20 days ago
Returns are just starting to come in in Illinois, its 738pm.
kalie
Sabreen – Kasich has been well ahead in polls for some time so it’s not surprising.
adlib 20 days ago
Grimes leads her concession speech by saying how much money she raised. Very inspiring, Grimes.
adlib 20 days ago
So in Chgo, they are projecting Durbin the winner, with 1% of the vote in.
kalie
I don’t know how they campaign in KY, but Grimes to me, seemed more like Country Club mom than a door knocker with boots on the ground.
kalie
Kalie – I think you nailed it. I don’t think voters related well to Grimes and she did many things that alienated them.
adlib 20 days ago
Apathy is the biggest problem with voters not voting
nirek
Lack of interest and education
nirek
Didn’t DCCC pull money from Grimes? I think I read that.
sabreen60
I have seen locals lose elections by j100-200 votes. Not voting, is Not an option.
kalie
DCCC is very judicious when giving. No so, when asking for money.
kalie
Sabreen – They pulled it then came back again.
adlib 20 days ago
Mark Pryor, another anti-Obama Dem lost. Wanna bet that most of these fools lose tonight?
adlib 20 days ago
That’s right AdLib. I remember now.
sabreen60

Pryor from where?
sabreen60

New Hampshire’s current Dem Gov Maggie Hassan has been re-elected.

Jean Shaheen has 1 10% lead on Scott Brown with 18% in.
adlib 20 days ago
That is, Shaheen has a 10% lead.
adlib 20 days ago
Ad lib i like your optimism tonight!
kalie
Kalie – I can see Dems winning the close races, hopefully winning the Governorship in FL as they already have in PA. With those two swing states insulated from dirty tricks in 2016, the big picture looks better.
adlib 20 days ago
Reporting that Shaheen has won.
sabreen60

funksands
Which two races, Funk?
adlib 20 days ago
Any of them. We have to win 2 of the following: IA, AK, AR, LA (assuming NC goes to Hagan) If Hagan loses, the drinking starts real early

funksands

Sabreen, that’s what I’ve been saying, Blue Dog Dems almost never win when they run against their own party and it’s leadership. How dumb is that to keep trying a gimmick that almost always fails? Can’t they Google previous elections and learn from history?

Funk – I don’t agree, it is so much easier just to be greedy and do anything it takes to take something than playing by the rules and being responsible. Easier to blow up a building than build one and that’s all Repubs do, blow up their opponent and never build any reason to vote for them that’s legit.
adlib 20 days ago
Ad, we’ll have to disagree then. Dem (for the most part) treat elections like a boxing match with rules. Republicans come armed.
funksands

adlib 20 days ago

The GOP has a media who willingly parrots all their talking points. We have Debbie Wasserman-Schultz. I’m sorry but I think she is pretty much a waste of space. She has never been able to hold her own against any Republican on any TV show that I’ve seen. And exactly what has she done? If fact, why can’t the Democrats figure out how to at least make appearances on TV shows?

murphthesurf3
I like Wasserman and for awhile she was visible, but not in the last 4 months. Its clear we need more Dems on TV delivering our talking points. Every morning, all the Dems need to have a conference call where the parrot the daily talking points, like the GOP does. And then talk about it all day on TV.

2020 Murph. I hate to say it, but that could be quite possibly the most important election of our lifetime.
funksands
Funk – I do agree that many Dems are too scared to campaign on their strengths and that’s clearly what happened in this election. There is a haywire version of conventional wisdom that Dems have been adhering to since they got their butts beaten by Reagan’s re-election. They seem afraid to stand aggressively for Progressive values and believe that they appeal to conservative Reagan Democrats by dissing Dems and discounting their achievements. Just plain stupid.
adlib 20 days ago
I read some country (forget which) had a 89% of voters to turn out. We do good if we get 60% during a presidential elecction.
sabreen60
Murph – As Funk says, it will take at least until 2020 which thankfully is a Presidential election year, unlike 2010. So that redistricting can happen and hopefully, if Dems prevail, changes could be passed through a Dem Congress.
adlib 20 days ago
Ad, what’s funny is that Clinton (when he nothing left to lose) provided the template in ’98. Once he let go and started speaking and campaigning boldly, they actually picked UP seats in the midterms.
funksands

Virginia is really spooking me

THIS IS FROM ONE OF MY FAVORITE POSTERS AT DAILY KOS… Dear America – You Have No Idea What You Did….. I promise you this, though – you’ll find out soon enough. There will be three distinct classes of people defined over the next two years: The “haves” The “drones” The “useless eaters” That’s your class distinction between now and 2016. The “drones” will vote for the “haves”, because they have no choice unless they want to become “useless eaters”. Forget Latino, women, working class, urban poor, whatever color of the rainbow you care to invoke, or immigration status. Haves. Drones (who serve the “Haves”). Useless eaters. Before you flame me, tell me how that doesn’t happen? Tell me how Ann Romney doesn’t become the next first lady? I’m asking for realism. We progressives got our reality tonight, and we’re the outliers. I got the message, loud and clear. I heard to it. And I’ll act accordingly. From today forward, I am on my own, and responsible only for me and my loved ones. I. Have. No. Choice.

CL – It is that off year mentality. This election “doesn’t matter” to too many. Then when the Repub Congress tries to kill the ACA, Medicare and SS by privatizing them, then maybe they’ll recognize how wrong they were.
adlib 20 days ago
Sabreen – THAT is what I cannot understand, though I saw absolutely NOTHING in Dem campaigns about any of that.
choicelady

GC – How many Dems running for re-election did you hear pushing back against the `”Obama is terrible!” meme? I heard none.
adlib 20 days ago
AdLib – the ONLY thing standing between us and disaster is one marvelous president. And the only thing standing in the way of his being impeached is the Vice President – their is no benefit to getting rid of Obama just to have “I know no fear” Biden.

We’re stuck in this destructive, gridlocked cycle for the forseeable future.

adlib 20 days ago

adlib 20 days ago

greenchica

adlib 20 days ago
“Obama has a failed agenda” is just ideology. It’s not a statement of fact. From your perspective, the agenda “failed” before it started.
greenchica

Obama should compromise because America just voted against his agenda.

adlib 20 days ago
Has anyone heard what the turn out was in voters?

jumpingjackflash
Jack I know what “compromise” means too.
funksands
jjf – From what you wrote, you seem to think “compromise” is what one person does so I don’t know that’s the case. If you do believe in compromise, how should Repubs compromise with Obama?
adlib 20 days ago
jjf – A Senator or House member is supposed to represent everyone in their state or district, not just those who voted for them. That’s how democracy is supposed to work. So claiming that because some Repubs won by narrow margins, they should ignore the rest of their constituency who support Obama’s policies, is not what the founders intended.
adlib 20 days ago
I think they will “compromise” with President Obama like Rome’s senate did with Caesar.

adlib 20 days ago
Or don’t answer it and prove that you weren’t being honest about understanding the definition of the word.

greenchica

greenchica
jjf – That’s not the Repubs compromising, that’s Obama compromising. Dems approved Bush’s judges at a faster pace, even very conservative ones. So Repubs not blocking everything is not a compromise. Agreeing to do their job is just being responsible, not compromising. And which “extreme liberal” judges are you talking about? Name three. Or is this another dishonest claim? Prove your claims here.

They just make unsubstantiated claims, don’t know what the meaning is of words they use and attack the character of others. If you can’t support your position with facts and reason and just throw eroneous claims around, that’s not working.
adlib 20 days ago

Funk – Yes, I’ve tried my best to find ways to encourage him to have respectful conversations because we welcome different opinions here but as you say, it always seems to devolve into baseless claims with no proof and slights and attacks on others…followed by victimhood about being mistreated. Yawn…
adlib 20 days ago
He left when he got real challenged.
sallyt

Sally – I can never get him to support his claims with anything resembling legit proof. Usually that just leads to claims as being treated wrongly.
adlib 20 days ago
But, guys, he was just a small taste of all we are going to hear from the right for awhile that if over a minute it is going to be too long!
sallyt

Or it all of a sudden got too late to be up??
sallyt

Sally – True but all Dems should do is point to what the Repubs did in response to Dems’ sweeps in 2008 and 2012…which was refusing to compromise. They can shut up then.
adlib 20 days ago
Typical behavior. Baseless claim, followed by furious refuting using facts, table, links, annotated footnotes, followed by slinking away. I don’t know why I still fall for it.
funksands
Funk – If only! But then the claims would need to be true and that ruins everything.
adlib 20 days ago
So, any questions on Repubs having legit and honest claims?
adlib 20 days ago
The goal is to force you go to great effort to refute something they already know is not true. It’s a game. Too many people keep playing it over and over again
funksands
Funk – Exactly. Which is why I turned it back to him to justify his claims…then he ran.
adlib 20 days ago
Obviously, they don’t care about facts because even with them, they will vote against themselves anyway.

I’ve got to turn in folks. Some local races and a worried wife to catch up with. Really enjoyed hanging out with you, even Jack! Even if it was just to remind me why I don’t ever go back to HP Lol!

Sally – Yep, that kind of self-delusion is so self-destructive but such folks are so lost in their bubbles, they’re clueless about it.
adlib 20 days ago
Great chatting with you as well, Funk. Best to the family!
adlib 20 days ago
Well, have you missed me closing up with you, AdLib? I am here to help you turn off the lights tonight.

Yes Sally, very pleased to be with you here again closing up the chat bar. Hope you’ll pop in on Vox this Friday, great seeing you!
adlib 20 days ago
Kalima! Love it! Showed it to my daughter and she thought it was the funniest thing!
adlib 20 days ago
Hi Sally. great to see you. Take care.

It was for Jack. Sorry I missed him.

Cool Sally! We’re still “outlaws” down here!
adlib 20 days ago
You go girl!!
kalima
Kalima – Yes, I figured that out! Very funny!
adlib 20 days ago
I told them Kalima that I was going to pack my bags and get the heck out of the country but Oregon talked me into staying because they said it was okay to stay stoned for the next 2 years.
sallyt

Very disappointing today. but we will fill in those two years to come with lots of fun stuff.
kalima
Kalima – Yes, not unexpected but disappointing. But it does set up 2016 to go Dem. And we need the President to be Dem so I’m looking big picture.
adlib 20 days ago
Stay where you are Sally. the grass is not always greener on the other dide.
kalima

Well, Kalima, it is only green until you lite it!

Just remember, Repubs have a very slim hold on the Senate and everything they do that’s extreme will come back to haunt them in 2016.
adlib 20 days ago
Dems will take back the Senate in 2016.
adlib 20 days ago
One hopes so, AdLib! But after tonight I have little faith in the voting public.
sallyt
Yes, they will. AdLib.
kalima
That is why I asked earlier if anyone had heard what the turn out was.
sallyt

Was it that the Dems didn’t get out and vote?
sallyt

Sorry. this is my first time on the new Chat. All thumbs.
kalima
Sally – I don’t either but American voters are becoming so predictable.
adlib 20 days ago
Kalima, so glad to see you here! Congrats on your first time!
adlib 20 days ago
Were the voters all the old people that thought if they voted all the republicans in they could raise Reagan from the grave?
sallyt
Ok. feeding time at the K zoo. Take care Sally, and see you soon AdLib. First time for everything.
kalima
Sally – That’s is definitely one factor. And the other factor is that the swing voters are morons who vote contrary to how they voted the last time, thinking it makes them “independent” instead of idiots with no vision. Off year elections are liek this.
adlib 20 days ago
Okay, see you later Kalima! Pet the K Zoo for me!
adlib 20 days ago
By Kalima! Have a great day over there!
sallyt

I will. Sayonara.

It will be interesting to hear how many were turned away from the polls, too.
sallyt

I think there could be some pretty big stories on turnout and Voter ID refusals of voters.
adlib 20 days ago
Well, a pleasure to turn out the lights in the Chat Bar with you, Sally! Hope to see you at Vox! Sleep well!
