President Obama has won re-election, Republicans are now talking about how much to raise taxes on the wealthy and how to reform immigration, House Leader John Boehner has declared the ACA the law of the land, Mitt Romney has capped his campaign with an affirmation that he was lying to America and has been condemned for his continuing 47% mentality, Sen. John McCain has been exposed himself as an unprincipled, spiteful and irrelevant human being and President Obama is in one of the strongest negotiating positions in his career to press “forward” with Progressive changes.
Though there are still many issues of concern and worry here and around the world, we’re taking this time to celebrate how sweet the future looks right now for this country.
So this weekend’s theme is about how sweet things are. Songs about things that are sweet, by bands with sweet names or just the sweetest songs out there.
So let the Republicans pucker up with their sourness, for this weekend, life is sweet!
Sweet Dreams – Eurythmics
Sugar Magnolia – Grateful Dead
Can’t Help Myself – Temptations
Strawberry Fields Forever – Beatles
I Want Candy – Bow Wow Wow
Sea of Love – The Honey Drippers
Just some fun-kick-ass-roll-back-the-rug-let’s-dance-rock-and-roll-music!
The Slingshots – Flying Saucer Baby
Gotta love the “dirty” sax and “muddy” sound. Funk Yeah! Toe tapping sit-down-dancing music. I dare you to sit still and listen to this
Johnny Reno – My Mistake
3 a.m. dancing-with-the-cat music!
I can dig it! 😉 With that guitar sound, does that make it dirty dancing!
Let’s take the long way home tonight…..
…And I think I’m noticing that that fuel gauge is almost on “E”… 😉
Big Rock Candy Mountain (from Brother Where Art Thou)

Ad, your pick reminded me of this song.
Sugar Mountain – Neil Young
Harry Nilsson–Lime In The Coconut;
I had this song stuck in my head for a full week once. Over and over and over. It was torture. :^)
The perfect video for this thread.
Savoy Truffle – The Beatles

Great pick LFer, haven’t listened to this in ages.
And this one’s dedicated to my Frennie Forever – Marcia Ball Sugar Boogie. Starts out a little rough but man oh man the sound is great.
She’s really good at honky tonk piano! Great band.
KT, you always get the best ones! Here’s two.
Dean Martin/Frank Sinatra – Marshmallow World (my pretend boyfriend, Raul Malo, sings this better – but there’s no good video of it)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAEqsnOQrxY
And who could forget this? MacArthur Park
It’s funny, I just watched a Dean Martin Roast of Sinatra, yesterday on you tube. Funny stuff. Way before political correctness came about, for sure, but great stuff.
Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs – Cinnamon Girl

The Blues Brothers–Sweet Home Chicago;
Great idea for a music thread. And timely too.
Yesterday I attended the reception for my first ever art show. One of my photographs took Best of Show. Best of Show at my first show? Holy smokes!!! How sweet is that?
A couple of days ago my niece celebrated her birthday.

Life is sweet!
Congratulations on your artistic success! Did Channel 4 have it on their website as well?
Best wishes and a big YEA! for your niece. I remember that accident and I happened to be watching Channel 4 when the reunion took place. She’s so fortunate to be in the great shape she is and you all must be over the moon.
My best to her and you.
I live in West Aurora btw.
Take care and yes, life is sweet!
Thanks!
Megan’s story is really amazing. I heard the EMTs were thrilled to see the end results of their work. They usually take people to the hospital and then never hear anything about the outcome.
I’m in Aurora too! Smokey Hill & Buckley. The art show I entered is the Aurora Artists Guild 18th Annual Gateway to the Rockies Art Show 2012. It’s at the Aurora History Museum, Alameda & Chambers between the police station and the library. The show runs until Dec. 15th and admission is free. I saw an announcement before the show’s opening on The Denver Post’s web site. Nothing in the local media since then.
Congratulations, LFer! Best of Show! Wow.
Megan’s story is amazing. So good to see how well she’s doing. I’ll bet she’s a huge advocate for wearing seat belts these days.
Congrats LFer, very cool indeed! Best of Show in your first show is fantastic and so affirming!
The story about your niece is just amazing, it’s had to be a long road but so happy for her that she seems to be coming through it so successfully. Best wishes to her!
Sweet songs have been around for a long time.

The Stampeders – Sweet City Woman

Honey Pie – Beatles
Apples Peaches Pumpkin Pie – Jay & The Techniques
Great pick Sabreen.
Thank you darling.
Tom Scott–The Honeysuckle Breeze;
