It appears the site is having problems again…could I be wrong? I notice that in the Off Topic section the videos have been changed around. One of the videos I posted has been replaced by one that MurphtheSurf posted. The video Kesmarn posted has been replaced by one that I posted. What’s going on?

Never mind, I believe I have fixed it, just needed to clear the cachet.

  2. Kalima, or Ad, I was going to make this weekend’s music thread a tribute to Robin Williams, but changed my mind. If you could delete the unfinished post, I would appreciate it. I think it might be a little depressing for a weekend thread.

  3. I’ve been trying to find my recent post entitled, Poems, Aphorisms and Injustices, but can’t locate it anywhere.

I looked in Speaker’s Corner and Arts and Entertainment and it’s not in either of those archives.

Could you please help me find it?

Due to the number of new posts, it’s no longer on the sidebar.

Hello! Having a little problem: when I get an email notice that there is a response to my comment, I click on the “click here” to view it, but it takes me back to the TOP of the Time Out For OT column. Recent time in memory was to early January 2013. I’ve tried paging down, but that doesn’t take me where I’m trying to go.

Please tell me what I’m doing wrong so I can see the reply and perhaps write another comment to that person.

    Thank You!

Hi NoSillyName. Try refreshing the Page after going back to the Home Page. If that doesn’t work, clear your Cache and Cookies, as you might have a corrupt one.

You can also go to your Dashboard, click on the top right Icon, and then go to your Settings to Comment Reply Notification to make sure if the right box has been checked.

      Hope this helps.

Hey Sally, Kalima, et al. -- I can’t pull up the Funnies this morning. I get the whole page of “leave your comment” but no funnies upon which to comment. I get other posts just fine, so this exceeds my technical capacities that aren’t that swift to begin with!

Okay, Kalima, but all it will let me add is the link. It will be the very last thing I add to the cartoons.

I would think that there should be a link above on the dashboard that would let you add a video but I can’t find it.

I appreciate you trying. If you can’t, just let me know and I will add it after you post the Sunday Funnies as a comment from me. I can get it there, I think.

Funk, what happens when you’ try to comment on that page? The more specific you can be, the easier for me to figure out and fix.

In any case, you should try clearing your browser’s cache then closing and restarting your browser, it could have a corrupt version of that page in it which could cause this issue.

    Okay, the funnies are posted and if you go down to the 32st cartoon it is screwed, along with 36 thur to 38. Then again with 40,41..43,44 47 clear to 51. 54, 56, 58 to 61. 64 then 66 and 67. 69 to 71. 72 to 77 81 to 88 79 then 92 clear to 104. 106 to 111. 114,115 117 to 122. 124 127 to 131 133,134 136 to 141 147 149 to 151(last cartoon in the post and not showing)

So half of the cartoons are not showing except for those blurs. It is 8:30am and I haven’t been to bed!!

Sally, I certainly don’t want to either confuse anyone or anything, but I just wanted to say what I saw just now.

When I first went to Sunday Funnies just now, I saw some images mashed as we described. I didn’t count them, so I can’t verify your findings. However, there were quite a few, starting some way down the scroll.

I hit the refresh button on the Navigation Toolbar of my browser (Firefox) to reload the link. After I did that, all cartoons were fine.

This is from the end user interface, not trying to compose a post or edit one.

Just trying to add to the information available to see if the problem can be fixed. No need to reply.

Kalima and AdLib, all the funnies are there but when I preview many of them are screwed. Drawn way out and just a line of colors and no picture. If I refresh the preview, some will come back and others will be lost. I don’t understand what is going on. I have noticed this happening on some of the older posts, too. This has just started happening with the change to Word Press. Let me know if there is something I can do from my end.

    • AdLib says:

Hey Sally, just wanted to respond here as well. The issue with the images is related to a new caching process that WordPress offers. In essence, instead of it taking a long time for Sunday Funnies to load due to drawing data from all the different sites the comics are on, the images are cached then displayed by WordPress.

It caches when the page is first displayed but some images may not fully cache. So just refreshing the page will complete that caching.

The annoyance is that all the comics don’t always get cached initially but the up side is that the Sunday Funnies page now displays very quickly.

So, our aim is to repeatedly refresh the page when it is initially published so all the comics are cached and everyone gets the Funnies swiftly and completely.

We’ll implement this regiment next week, hopefully that will resolve the issue and keep Sunday Funnies displaying at top speed!

      To Kalima and/or AdLib:

I have this problem too. I didn’t think anything of it, really, until I saw the question above. I saw it as an issue of native formatting, possibly. Could it be that when you capture the cartoon image, it is being saved or rendered in a different format somehow? That might why some show up and others don’t. JPG versus, say PNG images? Just guessing here…. I know nothing about WordPress or building a web site, but I do know these cranky thingies we all type on and communicate with, and there is one truism that’s been around since the damned things were invented: “When you fix one bug, you create two more.”

Totally appreciate the effort it must take to run this thing. I’d rather shove hot needles into my eyes than try and deal with tech issues, of all things. And I cannot imagine what software developers go through when they update, upgrade, or simply change or design a new product. Trying to make sure it all works and interfaces properly with all other software and machines. LOL Ain’t never gonna happen!

Anyway, I’m seeing the same thing as Sally, so I’m guessing it’s a software issue, or maybe a setting somewhere related to how they are rendered?

Got WordPress on speed dial I’m guessin’!

PS: If you want/need my system specs (a nothing-special laptop), I’d be happy to post them for you.

      • Kalima says:

Hello PW, I don’t quite understand the problem because I don’t see a post of yours in Draft. Are you taking about an image in your comment?

To put an image into your comment, you need to enter the URL into the drop down box after you click on Add an Image under your comment box before you submit. If your image has no URL, go to your Dashboard, click on Media on the far left column on your screen, then click + add new, and upload your image to Media Library. Once uploaded you will find a Planetpov URL in Edit, copy that URL into the drop down box after you have clicked on Add Image, and submit. Jpg works best on WordPress. Hope it helps. It might sound complicated but once you ‘ve done it, it’s a simple as riding a bike.

I thought SallyT was talking about how the Sunday Funnies look onscreen from the users’ end. My bad. Sorry.

However, it is true that when I open Sunday Funnies, many of the cartoons are the proper width, but have been reduced vertically by maybe 90%. Looks like a fat colored horizontal bar. Refreshing the page seems to take care of it most of the time.

Maybe a symptom of the same problem Sally’s talking about?

Anyway, sorry for the mistake. I’m good either way.

No, she was talking about how they appeared in “Preview” when she had finished her post. WordPress has it ‘a perks and it ‘s limits too. Some things we can improve but many we can ‘t, and Sally posts over 200 cartoons each week, so if they seem stretched or squeezed then it would be far too much work to adjust each one. As long as members can see them and read the captions, then I think that she has done her work well.

Remember we are a voluntary site and don’t rely on advertisers or hedge funds. We do what we can with what we have and what we can afford. No bells or whistles here, just passionate members talking about issues, and trying to make a difference.

I am not posting anymore than I usually do, Kalima. This has just started happening after the WordPress was changed. In fact the last couple of weeks I have posted even less because of the holidays. It is something to do with the change in WordPress. If you go back and look at the posted cartoons before the change you will see that they are always there. But after the change they are not and started getting screwy. You can’t see them and you can’t see the captions.

No Kalima, he is talking exactly what I am. They are all in the draft but not in the preview. And, after you post them, they are as they were in the preview…NOT THERE. So, the others are not seeing all of them after they are posted just like I said. The preview is how they will appear after posting which is screwed up.

It just started happening like I said when WordPress was changed. I will be interested in seeing if anyone else comments that they can’t see all of them.
