On another front, what frightens me is the stupidly complacent white professional suburbanites who are afraid of anything not lily white. As a member of the translucent club, I am often appalled by the attitudes of the above when they see cops in the area (a small city North of Boston). There was a car down the street that was being towed, probably because of unpaid excise tax (yay Taxachusetts). The couple that came in the yard to look at an ATV that my landlord is selling were worried because a couple of doors down there is a small mass of not-white people that always gather outside until nightfall. It is a mix of mixed families, lots of kids. I know all of them and I do not find them menacing individually nor as a group. Mostly if the cops come, it is because of a domestic dispute. I asked this couple if they had a loud argument, would they want a SWAT team coming in to break it up? I had to ask three times before I could get them to say no. I said well that is what is happening in this country, so you better speak up now. Oh and there were several cop cars accompanying the tow truck. Pathetic. I could see that they wondered about the neighborhood. And I wish I had told them that for the most part everyone is well behaved. There are some problems. But the amount of police that respond to a call varies from house by occupant epidermal pigmentation. Which I believe to be discrimination of the highest order, in a nation that claims to treat all equally under the law. We are a lie!!!

I live on a street where you can get just about anything that is for sale on the illegal market, although weaponry doesn’t seem to be one of the commodities. When the police are called, the road is blocked off at either end, and I have seen as many as 15-20 local/FBI/DEA (or some combination of aforementioned) for something as simple as a domestic dispute; one that happened on the street, in the full view of 70-80 people that live here.
I wasn’t awake when they raided a house diagonally across the street. The house was emptied and a cop was stationed in front of that house for several weeks. I have no idea what went on in that house. I was told it was a heroin raid. So the sale of pot and whatever else is still a safe, on-going enterprise (I have no idea about anything but pot, since I don’t do anything else).
There is such a mix on this street that most people are actually mixed. Several families with three generations living in the same house. Very few are owner occupied, like the house I live in. When things are quiet we rarely see any authority save the garbage collection people and the person who delivers the mail.
But any hint of trouble, even someone who won’t stop yelling at someone else, and you’d think that we were in a military zone.
