Here in the midwest where labor is quit a bit cheaper teachers pay is about 30% less at the entry but almost equal to yours in the top positions. At the state university here the same situation only positions like president earning $428k and starting full professor $35k, provost $250k. When the admin is pressed to answer the reasoning I have been told is upper management at university level is a fund raising position for the most part. The thought being even though it is a state school there needs to be a capitalistic incentive to recruit and keep those with the biggest black books.
