We used to have huge celebrations, my husband and I both come from large families but over the years it has become somewhat subdued. That is weird, the bank I worked for always transferred the balance to an internal account set up for the cardholder pending receipt of the affidavit. We would transfer your balance to your new account and transfer the fraud balance to a fraud account. Granted it would take a few days, not like today where it happens with the next file transfer. I have never had the experience and not because I am that careful, I think I am just lucky. For you to have it happen three times is pretty unusual but out of your control.
There is no end to the schemes these people can dream up. There was a group of kids at Cal Poly who came up with a program to re-encode the mag stripes on the back of the card. During the sting operation, they took an undercover cop to a mall, supposedly to show him how he could get in to the racket. They sat in the back of a van, encoding mag stripes on cards and sending people in to spend money. The fraud was hard to detect because the embossed number and the encoded number were different. That is how CVV and CVV2 were developed. When I went to Visa, that was my position, manager of CVV and CVV2 implementation with the banks.
