He told me about his daughter going on a school trip to France and how the school had drilled them on the dangers of France and certain parts that they should not go into. They took advantage of that after 9-11 and turned more government jobs to no-bid contracts. Cost us billions and millions more than if we had used government personnel. And, I heard today that the contractors do their own background checks on people they hire. Apparently not very well. Background checks cost money and those that can’t get a job somewhere else because of their record are way cheaper to hire. So, hire them and pay them less means more to the top. The military should be guarding all military operations and that should include the NSA! I just finished watching Grapes of Wrath and next is Fail Safe. It is Henry Fonda day on the channel. Before Grapes of Wrath was Advise and Consent. True movie on politics. It was from 1962 but still relating to current Congress shenanigans. (It is about the President trying to get his Secretary of State approved by Congress. Fonda is the hopeful Secretary of State. Great movie to watch if you haven’t already.) Fail Safe is the one about Fonda as President and there is an accidental nuclear attack on Moscow. A real thriller. Of course you all know Grapes of Wrath, AND, after Fail Safe is one of my favorite Henry Fonda movies, Mister Roberts. I am a little disappointed that his movies all day has not included my favorite movie of all movies, “Drums Along The Mohawk”. Fonda and Claudette Colbert star. Oh well, I guess I can’t have everything! But, I can because a friend gave me the DVD of it for my birthday. They have restored it and the movie is so clear on the disc, its like seeing it for the first time. So, friends, I have had and having a great Sunday! Also, no one has mentioned this but after she hit the barrier, her airbag had exploded. She was even more dazed. And, a witness said that she watched them pull the baby from the car before they fired into it. Well, that was good! But, to get that baby out, (she had a two door car) so, they had to reach over the front seat and undo a child safety seat which we know isn’t easy. Lots of time there to try to get the keys out of the ignition, even though, from the pictures she wasn’t going any further, and talk to her. Sure she probably was screaming, YOU JUST TOOK HER BABY! You where doing everything to this woman she was fearing! So, answer-kill her!
I think it is time to pay the police, security, and patrolman more money and better training on alternatives to shoot first and ask questions later, especially when you don’t see the other person with a gun in their hand but on a steering wheel.
And, why do we think we are always the greatest? I have said before that other countries probably think they are pretty great, too. Apparently this person thinks that New Zealand is a great country and might even think that it is the greatest country in the world. Of course they are wrong because we are the only ones that get to say that.
We’re visiting the States at the end of this year. I have to confess to feeling nervous. Every time the news comes on about America, someone has shot someone. Equally nerve-racking, when I read the comments about it in various publications, the general public seem completely immune to events. Admittedly, here in New Zealand we are very lucky because guns ‘usually’ do not feature in life here: cops don’t tote them, people generally don’t own them. Murder by gun is pretty rare here. And if it does happen – especially if the Armed Offenders Squad (division of the police) have shot someone – there is usually a significant inquiry about fault. I could be wrong because I have little knowledge about police workings in America, but it seems from the outside looking in, that in America fault is always directed to the person killed without any inquiry having been carried out?
This baby will live with this horror all its life.

And, why don’t they have gate tire spikes at crucial areas around the mall where cars are allowed? They could have engaged those and stopped the car. Hell, they had those at the Drive-Ins when I was a teenager!
