Scott Brown’s Lack of Moral Imagination

Beatriz,I’m from Vermont, next door to NH, and we don’t care much for “carpetbaggers”. Vermont had one and he got $hitcanned real fast. Thought he could come here and win a senate seat. Wrong! I am betting that S. Brown will suffer the same fate over in NH. They are similar to us and will see through this guy.

“At Last!”: How HP Continues to Cultivate Cynicism

My last two years with the phone company, I was the safety officer for the state of Vermont. Teaching safety classes of all types. From pole top rescue, first aid, aerial lift certification, overhead lifting with derrick, and so much else. I even went into Mass. , NH, and Maine to help teach.

I found that I had a knack for teaching. I am just a high school educated man but have lots of experience. I retired in “02 and went to be a sub at Montpelier HS. They offered me the discipline job and I did 4 years. I really liked the kids, they are willing to listen to life experiences and learn from them. I showed them respect and explained why rules have to be obeyed. The respect came back two fold. The four classes all asked me to chaperon their graduation overnight party they have.
I had a great time with them. Saw the freshmen graduate and called it enough.

My horse farm was intended to be a long term thing until my wife fell.

Do you actually make a profit farming? I always had a loss.

After 32 years of climbing telephone poles I worked at the high school as the disciplinarian for four years. Then I started our Morgan horse farm. Again four years. My knees gave out and my wife had a fall and hurt her back. That ended our farming.
I loved getting up and tending to the horses. My fencing was post and rail which I made from saplings on my land. I loved the routine up early and out every night to put them in the stalls. Now I have two new knees and do landscaping around my place and cut firewood for sale.

Try to work outside at least 3 or 4 hours a day now.

Murph, I did not know you were a farmer. I was a horse farmer after I retired.

Congress Does the Limbo

Jim, they are useless. The congress has accomplished next to nothing!

“He said Obama has eroded the power of the legislative branch under the Constitution and it was “in the best long-term interest of the country” for the House to stand up for its rights.” ”

Jim, they eroded their own power by doing nothing.

Kes, my wife is an RN (retired) and she tells me that Dr. are encouraged to push newer drugs that cost more when an older established drug will do the job nicely. When a drug that works well has been around long enough to allow companies to make it “generically” the drug company will get a patent on a new one just to keep the the price (profits) up.

Funk, this is proof of corruption to me.I should put it in the lobbying piece.

7% is pretty low but there is room for them to go even lower, PDL.

Who Saved the Cuyahoga River?

PDL, first thing, WELCOME to the Planet. Great article, too. I was in Vietnam when the river caught fire.
Ad said to give LBJ some credit and I agree. He signed more Bills into law than anyone.
Eisenhower was the last decent Republican to be President IMO.
I too am an environmentalist just not by profession. To me the environment is almost my religion. We must take care of it as it is finite. We need to get off the oil standard and use solar and other renewable energies ASAP.
Thanks for the article.
Peace.

Understanding How the Military Works

NoManIsAnIsland,
You should write an article. You have a way with words. You also make sense. That is what is most important.

» Posted By Nirek On June 19, 2014 @ 8:18 am

Mild mannered, yes, wimp,no.

» Posted By Nirek On June 19, 2014 @ 3:46 am

ST, when you are in a war and you kill, you can’t forget it. I still think about the guy and wonder who is taking care of his family? Or did he have a family?
I wish I had not been drafted.
Peace

Murph, if we could end the black market maybe we could end some of the bigger corruption, too.

» Posted By Nirek On June 18, 2014 @ 5:15 pm

NoMan, the article before was questions I had for “conservatives”. I got some answers from one lady who was very coherent and had some good points. and then there was JJF.

https://planetpov.com/2014/06/09/an-open-letter-to-any-and-all-conservatives/#comments

Check it out, my friend.
Peace

NoMan, my friend, you make me blush.
🙂 Peace.

Jack, who got rich in the process? Certainly not the majority of the indigenous people. They are just pawns used by the ultra rich, kinda like our 1%ers want to make us. Pawns for their benefit.

ST, I too gave up on HP. I only post here it is my home. I truly love it here at the Planet and the people here are wonderful. I even like to trade barbs with JJF. He doesn’t seem to understand that he has bought into the lies.

Beatlex, there have been wars going on in other parts of the world even though US and USSR were in cold war mode.

» Posted By Nirek On June 18, 2014 @ 6:31 am

ST,I take issue with the word “masters”, They are simply rich. Not my master at all. Greedy, spoiled, and sometimes foolish, yes but NOT masters.

» Posted By Nirek On June 18, 2014 @ 6:26 am

Murph, we can hope for justice. We can even keep Iraq in the limelight. That will help some in the search for justice.

» Posted By Nirek On June 18, 2014 @ 5:13 am

Thanks NoMan! You are kind to say that about me. I have only high school behind me, but a lot of experience which gives me some insight. When it comes to the military I had 20 years with my Dad as his dependent and two years as a drafted infantryman. So I saw lots of stuff going on in peace time and war time.

» Posted By Nirek On June 18, 2014 @ 5:10 am

He is heartless, CL. And yes we are talking about cheney.

» Posted By Nirek On June 18, 2014 @ 5:03 am

KT, as we have talked about this before, I have been in war. I saw first hand the senseless killing. Even killed at least one up close and personal. I justify it because he was trying to kill me.
The corruption I saw was small potatoes compared to what is happening in Afghanistan.

After three nights of being outside our perimeter on “listening post” and going out by day to count the bodies and gather their weapons, I kinda had a breakdown. They brought me to the aid station and used some chemical to put me to sleep. I slept 24 hours and they sent me right back to duty saying I had suffered “battle fatigue” or “shell shock”. Those were the terms they used for it then.

Peace, my friend.
