Time Out for O/T – Vol. 18

All too often the correct way to say Independence Day is lost. It is called the 4th of July more often. Either way July 4th or Independence Day is the birthday of the greatest country in the world. The USA has many faults but it is still FAR BETTER than any other place on earth IMO!

Happy Independence Day to all Americans especially you folks who think for yourselves here at POV!

Why do they put things off until the bitter end? Why not fix the problem instead of kicking it down the road for a year?

Lets vote the obstructionists out.

» Posted By Nirek On June 30, 2012 @ 11:48 am

Yes Sue, exactly like that.

» Posted By Nirek On June 28, 2012 @ 9:12 am

Sue , that is a good thing. Romney speaks (lies), then Obama calls him on his lies. That works well for me.

Have any of you noticed that the NRC is nothing but the advocate branch of the nuclear industry?
The NRC is supposed to regulate the industry for safety. LOL!

I agree that CU is a rotten ruling.
Does it allow foreigners to give to politicians?
I think it is against the law for politicians to accept money from non citizens. (someone help please)

If I’m right, then isn’t it against the law for multinational corporations to give money to politicians? (by definition multinational corporations are NOT US citizens)

» Posted By Nirek On June 26, 2012 @ 4:46 am

I read an article that said the Speaker of the House traded some of his stocks in 08 when he had insider information. Is the law something that doesn’t apply to politicians? Are they above the law?

I wonder how many of the politicians have profited from first hand knowledge due to their position?

» Posted By Nirek On June 26, 2012 @ 4:40 am

Adlib, you’re right that we need to reelect Obama for several reasons. One more reason is that Mitt is a twit.

» Posted By Nirek On June 17, 2012 @ 4:29 am

Sue, Mitt lives a sheltered life. He’s delusional !

» Posted By Nirek On June 17, 2012 @ 4:24 am

Rove and the Koch brothers have joined with another weirdo to spend spend spend on these super pacs. Thanks to the SCOTUS and its stupid citizens united ruling!

We have to get money out of the elections of our politicians. I don’t know how, though.
PUBLIC FUNDING?

» Posted By Nirek On June 16, 2012 @ 4:38 am

Sue, Americans have short memories,sadly.

» Posted By Nirek On June 15, 2012 @ 10:49 am

It shows a lot about his character. Shows me that I don’t want him as my President.

» Posted By Nirek On May 12, 2012 @ 10:19 am

I tried to comment on this evil man on HP and got moderated every time. Not one thing I said was that bad either. Just that cheney is evil.

I did write ;
Dear Dick, get well soon.
Love Satan

That got moderated too.

» Posted By Nirek On March 25, 2012 @ 3:59 pm

KT, why do they love the fetus but h8 people?

» Posted By Nirek On March 18, 2012 @ 4:12 pm

Never thought they would admit it.

The Daily Planet, Vol. 175

Just think how nice this country would be if everyone did one random act of kindness a day.

» Posted By Nirek On December 7, 2011 @ 4:19 pm

Thanks Sue. I really like the folks here . They seem to be nice people.

» Posted By Nirek On December 7, 2011 @ 3:30 pm

Thanks Emerald.
Two things come to mind. One , the folks i serve at our food bank take as little as they can and have said “I’ll just take one so someone else can take one too” They are NOT greedy.

Two, was a little story I read on the wall at a Dr. office today while waiting for my Aunt (92yo) .
“A young boy was on a beech and picked up a starfish and threw it back into the sea. A man asked him what he was doing. The boy said I’m just throwing the starfish back into the sea sense the tide is going out they wont survive on the beach. The man said there are miles of beach and thousands of starfish , you wont make any difference. The boy picked up another starfish and tossed it into the sea and said I just made a difference to that one.”

The point of the story is if we don’t try to make a difference we wont make a difference.
Every little bit of kindness will make a difference.

I am retired and have a pension and volunteer at our local food shelf. It is very busy every time I work there and the folks I see come in to get free food are my neighbors who have lost their jobs or have been hit hard by the flooding and lost everything. My heart goes out to them. They are NOT lazy, they are NOT dirty like Newt says. They are trying to help themselves get back of an even keel. If the food shelf helps them I’m glad to work to keep food on the shelves.
Speaking of shelves My brother and I built them after the location was flooded out. It was rewarding to see our labor bare fruit (and veggies and other canned goods).

This is what OWS is all about. Sharing some of what we have with those in need. That is my opinion.

Why Newt Should Win

They are beholding to their owners. Multinational corporations and the 1%ers.

» Posted By Nirek On December 6, 2011 @ 3:51 pm

These GOP candidates have learned not to give interviews from Sarah Palin. Look at how they avoid real reporters.

» Posted By Nirek On December 6, 2011 @ 3:44 am

How can the republicans claim to be the “family values ” party when they have candidates like Newt ? Remember he was having an affair while bad mouthing Clinton and trying to impeach him for the same kind of thing. I for one do not trust him.

Occupy – The Finest Form of Patriotism

I’m proud to be a 99%er .
How about anyone else.

» Posted By Nirek On November 9, 2011 @ 4:29 pm

I also agree, the media is also not reporting as much as they should. They need to realize that most of them are also 99%ers.
We need to convince more regular people that they are NOT being represented in congress because congress belongs to the multinational corporations (which have no allegiance to the USA) and the 1%ers. We can out vote them if we get more people to see that they are 99%ers.

A Radical Economic Solution – Stop Paying Banks For Credit Card Debt

I think this is a bad idea. There are ways to hurt the banks that do not hurt us. I paid off all my credit card debt years ago and pay the balance every month so they do not get any interest off me.
Another thing is to go with a small local bank or credit union. Don’t use or trust the BIG banks.

The One Percent: Who Are They? What Do They Do? How Much Do They Have?

You are spot on. Those corporations “people” are NOT patriotic American citizens.
The supreme court made a terrible decision!

» Posted By Nirek On November 5, 2011 @ 5:00 am

Americas democracy has become perverted. The supreme court ruling that corporations are people was the straw that broke the camels back. Now corporations and the 1%ers can and many of them do buy politicians and get laws made that are NOT for the better for 99% but sure do make the 1% richer.

We need to convince more of the 99% that we are correct. That the government is made up of professional politicians instead of the “citizen legislators” intended by our founding fathers.

Herman Cain’s “999” Attacks the 99%

I think you are correct and he’s just trying to sell books.

The Occupy Wall Street Thread

I believe the OWS protest is going to help improve our representation. The way things are now the only people represented in our government are the 1%ers and the corporations.

I don’t have a problem with businesses doing well. My problem is with the multinational corporations buying our congressmen/women. By definition multinational means they have allegiance to no country only to their bottom line. Sense they are not American corporations they should NOT have the right to donate, give, or bribe our politicians.

If we can clean that up and stop the 1%ers from donating, giving, or bribing our politicians we will be represented and have a fair chance to attain the American dream.

I think the OWS is starting something BIG. It makes me proud to be a 99%er. I’m retired and old. I can;t go and protest but I can and do voice my opinion.

Fight the good fight and protest peacefully !

» Posted By Nirek On November 16, 2011 @ 1:51 pm

Lobbyists for multinational corporations should be outlawed. Multinational corporations are NOT just American and should NOT have a right to lobby our congress.

That is my opinion , what is yours?
