Amanda BC

Thanks Kes & let me join you in Long Live Canada –
It’s a wonderful country –

BTW to wit, on my above response to you :
I just logged on to Huff –
I’ve lost about 20 fans, overnight LOL !!

Why the big gains & the sudden big losses ?
Answer :
Who cares ?

» Posted By LiseLives On May 31, 2010 @ 11:25 am

Kes –
Don’t let it hurt your feelings – it IS weird –
I have gained fans >> when I’m not there !! LOL –
I show up a day later & my count has gone up –
I just figure people are asking me to not show up ?? LOL
Kidding, but here’s what I’ve been feeling :
It all depends on the thread.
If we’re on a thread where most of our “friends” are, it makes sense that we won’t gain many new fans, because most of them have already fanned us –
I’ve been going to the “lesser threads”, because I often don’t enjoy the feeding frenzy that takes place on the main –
When I post on the slower threads, I pick up (not by intention) several fans, just because they’re lesser-known people who usually don’t frequent the main –
The more fans I pick up, the more ready I feel to put my “eye” on a new moniker, to start back at 1 –
I’m not comfortable with the illusion that some posters are more popular than others, it just isn’t so & usually has to do with the thread & the amount of time each poster spends & when ….
PS : Fanned !

It’s sooooo Tony & Tenille – it’s sooooo Pet Rock –
Some of the vignettes there have had me LOL’ing, something we can all use a good doses of : daily IMHO –

Hi to whoever’s here !
Of course, I HAVE to weigh in on this one πŸ˜‰
I’m a French Canadian (ages 1-9, Quebec) (ages 10-23, Vancouver & the island) –
First, AmandaBC is an anomaly, as compared to most Canadians.
Thankfully, I rarely “come across” her on Huff – probably our schedules are different –
Having said that, we (all) are a sum of our parts, ain’t we ?

Testimonial from a basically pretty cheerful & peace-loving (though spirited) Canadian :
When I post at Huff, it’s usually because I have to put my 2-cents’ worth, weigh in on a topic I feel strongly about –
This process can bring out aspects of ourselves the can surprise us, but I decided, (esp. since it’s merely blogging & not serious “friendships” being cultivated) to “let it all hang out” – so at times, I unleash words (esp. with trolls, sorry but it’s just too hard to resist, damn delicious fun !) that feel righteous at the time, even though they may be indulgent, snarky, or judgmental.
If I’ve made an error in assessing someone, I ‘ll apologize, but generally, it feels good to let out the “overall” me, without caring about popularity or following the stream of thought –

I can’t speak “for” Amanda, except to say simply : that that’s about her – it’s not about Canadians –
Yes, Canadians tend to have a raised eyebrow sentiment toward Americans – it used to piss me off to hear the gross generalizations coming my from country folk – there’s so much they’re missing about the fabulous attributes of many many Americans –
Canadians seem to feel that all (or most) Americans are grossly materialistic & money-loving, missing entirely the humanity & social conscience that I feel many Americans possess (well, ….da Libs πŸ˜€ )

Periodically, I’ll let loose on “one of our own” : Dems who (lately it seems) love to pound on Obama, assuming that he’s doing zero on the oil disaster, an assumption I don’t at all share & who, by extension, pound on fellow Dems who give the President the benefit of the doubt, on just what he IS doing to try to solve this unprecedented mess.
So, Canadian here, making no apologies for Amanda, who would prob. be just as odd if she were American, nor for myself, for letting all facets of my human-hood (and Canadianism) out on the internets πŸ™‚

Any questions on the “Canadian thang”, feel free to ask – or critique, or, hell : mock !
I can laugh at myself, at Canadians = I can take it

Ten reasons why the Stanley Cup Finals beats the NBA Finals

I tend to like red & white uniforms more than blue & white

Hey ! I just needed any kind of sporty entree to be able to say hello to the sports fans here whom I haven’t seen in a while : Hello, KQ ! πŸ˜‰

AN OLD FRIEND, GONE

Now I remember him too – he was quite entertaining & always jovial a long way back, during the election –
Rest in peace CW ~

I’ll follow suit πŸ˜‰

» Posted By LiseLives On May 25, 2010 @ 10:27 pm

I was on the same wave-length as soon as I heard it on Huff, but dismissed it too –
Oh, dear ….

» Posted By LiseLives On May 25, 2010 @ 10:20 pm

Ah hah !
Your Doc ‘alter-ego’ is a tad more ‘passionate’ than BSM was, but still they’ve both always been top-notch, upper tier posters IMO πŸ˜‰

» Posted By LiseLives On May 25, 2010 @ 10:16 pm

?? – prayers …..

» Posted By LiseLives On May 25, 2010 @ 9:57 pm

Saw this posted on Huff (DocStrangelove = BSM ?) –

BSM, very sorry for your loss – sounds as though he was a very special man –
Very sad ….

Oil’s Well That Ends…Well?

Ditto – it’s a combination of anger, outrage & sheer frustration –
& prob. also the recognition that we have SO MANY ills to try to solve in a 2-term administration –
I hadn’t been awake before President Obama came to the forefront. Hadn’t paid nearly as much attention to US politics.
I knew there was corruption in Gov’t. but not nearly to the extent that’s come to the surface, since Obama took office & started unearthing it –

Most upsetting, all in all –

» Posted By LiseLives On May 26, 2010 @ 6:18 pm

I think what’s upset me along with the disaster, is the Obama-bashing, much of it from long-time Dems.
I don’t know quite what to make of it & have found myself having lapses of mixed feelings, wondering if I don’t feel that same sense of disappointment.
Do I wish he had been forcefully vocal from the onset, from the moment we all found out just how utterly devastating this on-going spill was ? Yes.
Big-time.
However, if I’ve learned anything about President Obama by now, it’s that what appears aloof often betrays an immense conviction & low fanfare action, something I had come to depend on from him : that he in fact, was NOT lying back, but was accomplishing a lot behind the scenes.

I choose to believe that this is the case with Obama & the BP tragedy.
That we’ll learn just WHAT has been taking place behind closed doors & that his leadership was always strong, pro-active & intact, albeit not outwardly seen.

Great, great post AdLib –
Will take more time to read it again, more slowly when I get home tonight –
So many good points, but I’m feeling too upset today to comment succinctly.
The BP nightmare-come-true has taken its toll on me & my outrage is close to the surface, not too comfortable a feeling.

The Power of Intermittent Fanning

For me, there’s a quality that exists between certain people (and even w/ ‘blogger pals’) :
“a mutual simpatico” that’s not fickle, not prone to change, pretty steady.

» Posted By LiseLives On May 23, 2010 @ 6:26 pm

Sooooo fanned for telling me that I was consistent in my fanning you :))
I think it’s prob. something inherently obvious with the likes of us, Q – that once fanned, always a fan !
We must recognize that ‘je ne sais quoi’ in mere seconds !
& yes, the quickie analogy is perfect –
I do get that heightened adrenolin feeling when I see so many people just having to put in their 2-cents’ – it makes me feel not at all alone in my outrage or fervency toward the topic & they’re always flush with topics –
Here it’s more like : ahhh ….. πŸ˜‰

Oh, and my Enzyte_Bob usually fills in for me, when I feel a post needs some levity – he’s good with that.

Besides, he’s an all-round *swell guy πŸ˜€

Another great post, Q!, one that might conjure up opposing opinions & that’s okay !
This one DID make me take a look at why (with regards to blogging) I choose one venue, rather than another, on a given day –
When I’m busy (weekdays) focusing on biz, I like Huff quite a bit, because I can click once & comment & the thread usually moves so fast that it doesn’t matter who ‘engaged’ with what I wrote – it’ just gives me a chance to weigh in quickly.

Fanning & ….my own LOL – πŸ˜€
I fan.
I sometimes fan like crazy (depending on the topic & the sense of passion I feel towards it) –
I have even “soooo fanned” …..’nother LOL –

I took a look at why I indulged such a silly system & realized it was no different than going to a ball game & hearing everybody cheer for “their team” & feeling the need to look around at the crowd & give some “home team” fans the old *wink, wink* – in short, like watching sports, it’s a P/T pastime.

I pay zero attention to the badges or what they mean and, in fact, don’t even ‘see’ them anymore –
Comments are quickly made & then they just as quickly disappear & dissipate, but you feel satiated for letting it out’ !
It’s a release –
So, I think (for me) Huff fits the bill on busy days the same way a cheer or comment does, when one is on the side lines, occupied in something else at the time, but capable of leaving the occasional voice to add to the overall home-team (Dems.) sentiment ….
