Gosh kev, first free spelling lessons for people and now my own grammar teacher, where were you went I started to learn English I wonder. I might have to enroll in night classes to start all over again now.

I’m sorry but i said that this is what his rants imply to me. me not the rest of the people who find themselves disagreeing with him.

I am stating an opinion, not putting forward an argument and I’ll say it again, the man makes me cringe, I disagree with most of what he projects and feel as if I have already wasted enough time explaining how I personally feel and have not conveyed the point that at the moment I don’t give a s–t about this man or what he stands for either.

You have your opinion and I have mine, neither of us will change them so it seems rather futile to continue.

I have to start cooking for my hungry husband in a minute, so bid you a good night.

I’ve have mentioned this a few times before, my “You” is generalizing, it’s a habit I find hard to shake but please use it for future reference. If I was talking directly to a person, I would use their name.

I’m neither mad at you or testy and I had no idea that we were on an unscheduled debate here, silly me, I thought the post was written to be thought provoking which it was and to which I gave my thoughts.

Where did I say that Hitchens wrote this, I feel that he implied it, there is a difference.

I think that you are confused, I did not as you say “certainly lit into Bernard.” He wrote this post to encourage the reactions of others, I see no mention in his post that Christians were not welcome to comment, do you?

As for not knowing Hiitchens, I’ve heard and read about all I ever need to and will leave it at that.

I was talking about Hitchens, why would you think that everything is all about you, where did I state your name once, please show me.

According to Hitchens theories, only religious people have the capability to hate, what a lot of crock.

I am glad that you and Hitchens have something in common but would quote your own words, “You want to believe, go ahead. Just keep me out of it.” I have my opinions of a man who is not as popular as you seem to think and if he can criticize or generalize about Christians, then it is also my right to criticize him too. As you noted I have never foisted my beliefs on anyone here, at the place before or Huff, so don’t sing the virtues of a man consumed by his hate of any religion to me.

He goes public with his beliefs and as such is there in the public eye to be criticized, I am not.

I find this a rather ridiculous question to ask me since I have never stated any such beliefs of the sort and have no idea why you would even ask it.

No I do not think that only people of faith are capable of a generous act or sentiment and don’t ever ask me a silly question like this again. You don’t know me, please remember that.

Exactly!

I can honestly say that I have never prayed for anything for myself. If I pray and when I pray it’s for giving someone the strength to overcome an illness or a particularly difficult time in their lives and not to be rich or to win the lottery which btw I find disgusting and nothing at all to do with Jesus, who wouldn’t approve anyway I believe. Strange Christians!

I seem to come from this same background of RC’s. My grandparents, although devout in their religious beliefs shared with me their personal beliefs that we were all equal regardless of our religious beliefs or the colour of our skin. Growing up this shaped my own life after witnessing their kindness first hand as a child to people in our neighbourhood who were suffering, didn’t have enough to eat or couldn’t afford new clothes for their children.

I remain grateful for their guidance in a time when there were not so many who felt the same and yet it was something as easy as breathing for them, something that they could do without thinking, they have a huge part of my heart.

Thank you for taking the time to reply choicelady. Although I resent any Church involvement in matters of the State, this pointing solely at the Catholics as responsible for this obnoxious amendment was quite unfair. The RC Church has never been shy about their opposition to abortion, therefore are often solely blamed for influencing political decisions.

Remember when Bush came to power, he was mollycoddling with your religious right, making promises to gain their votes, a huge mistake for the rest of you to have to bear with for 8 years.

I love your fantasy, I’ve always had one of my own about leaders of different countries. I suggest that before another country gets involved in or starts a war anywhere, they gather in a large place away from the general population, chose their weapon of choice and fight it out between themselves if they can’t reach a solution through diplomacy before sending our innocent men and women to far and remote places to be killed or maimed for a cause that has no merit in the real world.

Yes kesmarn and this is why I take offense at people like Hitchens, not only does he not know every single practicing or non-practicing Christian in the world and has broad generalization of knowing us better than apparently we know ourselves, he is also a Islamophobe of the group of people who later coined the word “Islamofascist.”

His right to his own opinions is a given thing, his right to try to tar us all with the same brush is not and negates his credibility.

I think of him as a nasty, delusional “drunk” I’ve met many a Hitchens in my lifetime.

He can say whatever he wants, that doesn’t mean he’s right, in fact if he lumps all Christians together, then he is wrong.

Hitchens is no progressive, his notable support of the war in Iraq would prove this beyond a doubt. He reminds me of a family friend long ago, a quiet man until he was drunk, when he would turn his attention to religion and yell at the top of his voice about how there was no God but attended Mass every Sunday with his family.

Could be that during one of his drunken binges, he ran out of booze, asked God to prove his power by placing a full bottle of Scotch on the table and when the miracle didn’t occur, decided that there was no God after all.

KQ you are aware that Stupak lives in the infamous C-Street house and that the senior members there were responsible for the birth of the amendment on abortion rather than a few Catholic Bishops who have always been vocal about their opposition to abortion, right?

Hitchens is a bitter, delusional, rambling drunk, who I imagine one time believed in God, was misguided enough to believe that God heard every single prayer, asked him for something but remained unfulfilled.

To believe in something much more powerful than ourselves is not insane if it helps us through difficult times, guides us in times of prayer or meditation, remains what is should be, a very private belief.

To all those who ridicule those of us who have led our lives helping others when we can, causing no harm to another living thing I would say, I can’t prove that there is a God, by the same token, you can’t prove that there isn’t.

For most of us, he lives in our hearts and in the way we live our lives. You can analyze or criticize all you want, it won’t change a thing except make us wonder why this hate when we would never feel the need to do the same to you for not believing, it puzzles me.

Good luck with that. There aren’t enough people in the world who feel as you do to even make a dent in the beliefs of the people who believe in a higher presence, no matter what name they call it by.

You don’t believe, that’s fine, I would never judge you in any way shape or form, please show the same respect to those of us that do, most of us don’t wear it on our sleeves or talk about it in public. We are all not raving lunatics like your religious Right seems to be and we each have the right to believe in what we chose to believe in.
