I’m going to defend gains that we’ve made on environment and clean air and clean water.” — President Obama Thank you so much for standing with President Obama! The President is right: we must defend the gains we’ve made in health care, environmental protection, and Wall Street reform. That’s why we want to get as many signatures as we can backing up President Obama and rejecting the Republicans’ repeal agenda. There’s one important thing you can do (RIGHT NOW!) to help us reach our goal of 1OO,OOO strong standing behind President Obama. Forward this email to 5 friends right now — and encourage them to add their names alongside yours: http://action.dccc.org/stand-with-obama-veto » Posted By EXFANOFARIANA On January 6, 2015 @ 4:07 pm I got this on my inbox today and feel, it’s important we step in in their support: In 2011 I lost one of my friends and fellow Marines, Clay Hunt, to suicide. He was only 28 years old. Twenty-two veterans like Clay take their own lives everyday because they don’t have the care they need after returning from the battlefield. A bill in Congress named after Clay will give them the care they deserve. The Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for America’s Veterans Act will improve the accessibility and effectiveness of mental health care available to our returning heroes. The bill has bipartisan support from lawmakers around the country and would have passed this week – but one lone Senator, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, stopped it from passing. Sen. Coburn is serving his final days in Congress and won’t be able to stand in the way of helping our veterans next year. We need to act now to get this bill passed. I started a petition asking Congress to give our veterans the care they deserve by passing the Clay Hunt SAV Act within the first 90 days of the new session. Click here to sign it. Clay earned a Purple Heart after he was shot in the wrist by a sniper’s bullet that barely missed his head in Iraq. Like so many of our veterans, he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after returning home and relied on the VA for his medical care. But his treatment was inadequate – he was constantly dealing with delays and having prescription drugs pushed on him instead of counseling. The VA even lost his files once. The Clay Hunt SAV Act will increase access to mental health care by creating a peer support and community outreach pilot program to assist transitioning service members to better meet the demand for mental health care. Clay left behind two loving parents and many friends. Not another friend, parent, sister or brother should experience losing a fellow veteran to suicide. Please sign my petition asking Congress to improve health services for our nation’s veterans by passing this legislation within the first 90 days of the new session. He’s announced his first priority when he takes the gavel will be to pass the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). The TPP is a big, multi-national trade deal negotiated in secret. The big corporations love TPP because it will invalidate scores of environmental and labor regulations and let them ship jobs overseas. Consumer laws could be trumped by unelected tribunals. The deal is stuffed with provisions that could not survive in the light of day. So Senator McConnell is dead set on passing this deal using a “fast-track” process that will skip niceties like public hearings and amendments. We have to stop this. There’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves over the last election. The consequences are too grave. We must raise the alarm. The Campaign for America’s Future will organize progressive groups and allies in Congress (even some conservatives). We will create and distribute educational materials and petitions. We will inundate Congress with letters and phone calls. Will you help fund the campaign to stop this dangerous, job-killing trade deal before it’s too late? This is an on-the-ground, in-the-air and across-the-wires campaign. We have the truth and large portions of the public on our side, but we are going to be vastly outspent. You can help level the playing field. Peace you all! » Posted By EXFANOFARIANA On December 21, 2014 @ 5:29 pm Wall Street is out to destroy Sen. Elizabeth Warren. She really struck a nerve when she came out against the nomination of Antonio Weiss, an investment banker who is helping Burger King avoid paying its fair share of taxes, to an important Treasury Department post. Jim Dean’s email below explains the background behind this important nomination. Wall Street knows that Sen. Warren’s opposition to Weiss is a game-changing moment in the fight for the future of the Democratic Party. That’s why they’re pulling out all the stops to try and defeat her. Steven Rattner, a member of the Wall Street Wing of the Democratic Party, made this extraordinary criticism of Sen. Warren this week, as reported by Politico: “This is not at all about Antonio Weiss,” said Steve Rattner, a prominent investment banker who worked on the auto industry bailout during Obama’s first term. “It is part of a much broader narrative of the fight for the soul of the Democratic Party…” Rattner added that if the Weiss nomination goes down “it will be a long time before anyone else with Wall Street experience volunteers for this kind of job.” That’s exactly what we want. We’ve learned the hard way that Wall Street cannot be trusted to regulate itself. Sen. Warren herself has shown that you don’t have to come from the big banks to do a good job regulating the financial industry. We need people who answer to Main Street, not Wall Street, filling these important financial regulatory posts. The Antonio Weiss nomination has become a crucial moment in the fight for the future of this country. We cannot let Wall Street win. Will you stand with Elizabeth Warren? Sign our petition and tell Sen. Warren’s fellow Senators: Reject Antonio Weiss! – Robert Robert Cruickshank, Senior Campaign Manager » Posted By EXFANOFARIANA On December 6, 2014 @ 10:59 am December 2, 2014 Legendary Conservationist Martin Litton Dies at 97 Legendary Conservationist Martin Litton Dies at 97 Martin Litton, a passionate environmental crusader and former Sierra Club board member who was known as the “father of commercial river guiding” in the Grand Canyon, died at his home in Portola Valley, California, this past Sunday. Accordingly to the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, the document “confirms what scientists have been saying the recent emissions [greenhouse gases] created an inevitable course for heating the next two decades, which will affect more the poor and vulnerable. ” And yet, more and more people insist on reproducing due the inefficacy of their governments. We all cried wolf when China begun introducing one Child per Household. Was it perfect? NO.But they were aware of the dramatic future for children born into poverty.I was in China several times and, could witness the misery of rural children: if they were female, abandoned at orphanages or buried alive within minutes after a female was born. “The dramatic climate change and the extreme heat are affecting people around the world, damaging crops, coastal areas and jeopardizing water security,” the report titled Turn Down the Heat: Confronting the New Climate Normal. Without drastic changes on how many children can be born into poverty , which is pretty much the news now, no hopes can be accomplished,It’s doom out there. The World Bank estimates that climate change is making it difficult to reduce poverty in the world, jeopardizing the livelihoods of millions of people. This is the conclusion report released Sunday (23) by the institution.
The report said the impacts of climate change, such as extreme heat events, unavoidable, since the Earth’s atmospheric system is 1.5 degrees Celsius above the levels recorded in the mid pre-industrial era ,and that even taking today’s very ambitious mitigation measures, the impacts will not be changed.
