I grew up around a lot of World War II and Korean War veterans, and few ever spoke much about it. And unfortunately we didn’t understand PTSD back then and I’m sure many went through the rest of their lives carrying burdens that we will never know. I can say the same of the many Vietnam War veterans I know, but at least by the end of the Vietnam War we started to recognize, to a degree, the magnitude of PTSD and started to work more with these veterans to overcome some of it’s effects. My father served in the South Pacific during World War II, and was a Seabee, and for those of you who don’t know what the Seabees did, they came on shore usually with the Marines to help start building new facilities for our services as soon as possible. Docks, airfields, you name it. A “non-combat” job in the heat of the combat zone. And not always the extremists. And I don’t know if you mean here or where. Really doesn’t matter. I remember the activism of the 1960s and 1970s. Wasn’t always pretty. We alienated a lot of people for multiple generations. But at the same time we forced things to start moving. And some good things did happen. I’m rather progressive radical at times but you won’t see it in most of my posts, because I accept some of the “realities” out there. I don’t accept some of the excuses wearing the clothes of “reality”. Please remember I’m one of those people that a lot of all this is currently affecting seriously. Out of work for an very extended period, own a house I cannot get rid of in my market (nice house)(even at a loss), and in 3 weeks my spouse and I will not have health insurance and both do have pre-existing conditions. So it’s a little personal for me, not just rhetorical “I love humanity”. And I’ve always been hands on with that humanity. So yes, some progressives want it all, but a lot of people will accept breadcrumbs because others have convinced them that’s all that is possible to be gotten. I don’t have the answers. He and his wife had difficulty having children (ovarian cysts) and after surgery were urged that if they wanted any, to do it NOW. Well, five children later… And then before the oldest was 8, he died (age 38) from a genetic blood clotting issue. Then the widow decided to become an RN herself.
