The woman (a public service employee) took GREAT umbrage at what my partner – after several attempts to actually SPEAK with someone – left on her phone that there had obviously been a mistake. The woman snarled (in a truly AlphaBitch way) that she resented the implication that THEY had made a mistake. We’ll have it straightened out this week. I’m not worried about it at all, because we DO have documentation. I just need to spend some time on it, and with the trip to IN and the backlog of PBS work, I’m a little short on time (not to mention the landscaping). I “delivered” 64 bags of mulch yesterday and today to get STARTED on our yard. God bless the Pup – he made short work of it and saved this old broad a few more sprained ankles (hmmm.. does that make one wonder if I have 4 or 6 ankles left to sprain??) He is such a jewel. I’m going to collect some fingernail clippings and try to clone him. Have a board meeting on the refugee program, so need to dash off. I’m also meeting with a nationally known photo essayist to collaborate on a project to feature some of the refugees. With this man, it could easily make a national circuit and I will invite you all. Our meeting is not until March, and who knows when we could get funded/started. I have encountered problems with the government agency in charge of taxes (who shall remain nameless because of fear of retribution); they insist we filed as a financial service company and that we did not complete the application correctly. I noted a restlessness in me (not just from the prolonged stay in Jeebus and Bunny Bread land), but also because I thought “Huh. What do I value most? I value God, my country (sometimes) and my family (real or chosen). But is that what I truly value MOST? I am deeply spiritual, although not always religious. I DO love God, or what I perceive as God. I allow everyone their own thoughts on this, unless they try and force their perceptions into my brain or life. But what about the other things? What I found is this: What I value most in life are God, truth, and love. That to me makes the world go round, and are the things I try to “follow” as guidelines for my behaviour and thoughts each day. Now, and especially with all our new Planetarians, I am curious as to what you find you value most. Talk amongst yourselves. I have to go cut my roses and make a pot roast for Sunday dinner. I’ll check back, but I would love to read your responses, if you have thoughts on this that you would like to share. If not, I’ll continue contemplating my own path, and that’s OK too. I was just speaking with one of my kids about how much I hate “us” vs. “them” tribal mentalities (note: my “kids” are my Afghan students, who came here for a year of high school and are now back for college). It evolved thousands of years ago, out of biological necessity, to protect your bloodline/gene pool. But as the world has advanced, and shrunk (to the point of where I had two Afghans in my home last night, and a different set tonight), it is no longer “us” vs. “them”, but “we”. What happens to one of us, happens in some way to all of us. So Truth, you can be who you are and be part of the Planet, as “we” all are! The Afghan girls went through a phase of pencil thin eyebrows (cejas in Spanish), and they looked like ventriloguist dummies! In their culture, it is good. Yep, I’m a HUGE music fan and friends with several of the musicians, both here and in Nashville. I took the “college boys” to go see an AMAZING young man (though the YouTube recordings do NOT do him justice) – Warren Hood and the Hoodlums. I’ve known Warren since he was a sprout – about 9 years old. His daddy, Champ Hood, was a dear friend. Champ passed away a few years ago; Warren went to the Berkley School of Music. His new band is amazing. The Afghans loved the music, and one of them was very excited to go meet Warren. Although it had been years since I had seen him, he was as sweet as ever (I was his “Telluride Momma”, keeping him stocked w/ sunscreen, Chapstick and hats when he came there a few years ago.) Warren Hood and the Hoodlums will be playing at the Strawberry Festival in California (at Camp Mather) this spring; go if you can! My favorite festival of all. And watch for Warren in the future – he is destined to achieve great things, I do believe! (Bito – now you’ve done it! Music is a hot button for me. Shall I send you some tunes? I’d be happy to send you some “get well music”! Music has healing powers in my mind – and sometimes the healing is even physical!) Silly girl! I’ve worked in vet clinics for years. Sometimes the behavior can signal epileptic attacks. I once had a friend with a LARGE MEAN black cat named “Ebony”, called “Ebon”. When I would go visit, Ebon would sometimes stalk me and bite the crap out of me (hey! I’m a cat person. This should NOT happen) Once I noticed Ebon nowhere to be found. When I asked, they told me he had been sent to “appreciation school”. Seems when he acted out, he was banished to the garage for a few days. My friends were devout Christian Scientists. I always suspected Ebon had epilepsy, but they were not the sort to acknowledge it if so. I have used appreciation school for others – errant husbands and stubborn students (but only in a figurative or threatening sense, never actually).
