400 Posts! 20,000 Comments! Merry Xmas!

Hey all!

Since people have discussed below going to HuffPo to invite more people here…and since we’re a mere 10 members away from having 200, here’s some helpful info:

Here are several referral links you can use at HuffPo to invite people here that won’t send your post into pending:

http://welcome.to/planetpov1.com
http://welcome.to/planetpov2.com
http://welcome.to/planetpov3.com
http://welcome.to/planetpov1211.com

BTW, we can create an infinite number of referral links so if you find that one has been added to the word filter, just let me know and we’ll create more.

Thanks for helping us reach 200 members and beyond!

Heh! Did she guess it and make you smile or could you just not hold back any longer?

Or did Santa tip her off?

I hope neither Dick Cheney or the Patriot Act had anything to do with this leak!

WOO-HOO!!! So happy to hear it! Well, we know what you asked Santa for!

» Posted By AdLib On December 24, 2009 @ 10:59 am

Well, considering all the meaningful comments you’ve posted here, it’s kind of fun that this is the 20,000th comment.

Now don’t spend all that VO5 in one place!

Emerald, thanks so much for all you said, it’s like Santa coming early!

I started at HuffPo in November 2007 and emotionally checked out this March.

We had the same confidence and faith in the people writing so brilliantly at HuffPo, that if they were given the freedom to fully express themselves, they would shine even brighter.

Respect breeds respect, that’s the theory they don’t believe in and we do.

Thanks so much for helping to make The Planet such a wonderful place to be!

I found this on a website:

Historically this (White Christmas) is the biggest selling Christmas song of all time. It was the biggest selling song of all time, going back and forth with Bill Haley’s “Rock Around The Clock,” until Elton John released his tribute to Princess Diana – “Candle In The Wind.”

We’re so happy to have you here!

Your 5 year old grandson sounds like my 6 year old daughter, all she says she has enough toys and doesn’t need anymore (though she doesn’t have a huge amount) and mainly wants chocolate and candy canes for Christmas. And hair bands.

Merry Xmas to you and your family!

Wonderful news! We’ll keep sending all the positive thoughts and energy we can.

And I’ll take a drumstick.

How “cool”!

A White Christmas!

Sometimes we put their fingers in bowls of warm water while they’re sleeping and let the hilarity ensue. 😉

An FYI: Out of respect for Marion’s amazing post, the OT comments discussing how to use use blockquotes and Gravatars were moved to the Help Desk where those conversations are welcome to continue and answers to those questions are posted: https://planetpov.com/2009/12/24/help-desk .

A masterpiece, Marion! Truly remarkable! Humorous, insightful, comprehensive, cuttingly honest…a marvelous post!

Just loved it!!!

C-SPAN Caller Fears Prayers for Byrd’s Death Affected Inhofe

God was amused by this and asked me to post this for him.

Very amusing. Just to be clear, I know it’s hard for some folks to differentiate between their guns and prayers but if you shoot me a prayer and I’m not looking, it does not bounce off my chest like it was a bullet and I’m Superman. And it certainly doesn’t ricochet to hit someone else.

Guilt, however, is a whole other thing.

Survivorman Circa 2009: Somewhere in NE Georgia Hospital

I could say this on any of the posts today but I think yours may be the most appropriate…

…what an amazing community we have here! I’m just blown away by the genuine concern, knowledge, insights and humor people here share with each other and the world.

Today was another banner day for The Planet, an embarrassment of riches. I feel wiser and more thoughtful for having read all of today’s remarkable articles. And this whole week’s. And the week before…and on and on.

However, KQuark, I have to again say how you continue to amaze me, going through what you have been and still finding the concentration, energy and discipline to write such a well thought out, perennial article.

Thanks again for sharing your keen mind with us and my thanks to all of our members for contributing so meaningfully to this community.

» Posted By AdLib On December 22, 2009 @ 7:40 pm

KQuark, even in the hospital, going through all you have and are going through, you write such a thoughtful and thorough piece! I am bookmarking this post to share with everyone and anyone I know .

I had to take care of my great aunt who came down with Alzheimers and seeing how poorly she was treated led me to spreading the gospel that you have to be the CEO of your own healthcare (or healthcare manager, as you say). Seeing doctors as advisors is so important, no one knows your body better than you and you’re the one who has to live for the rest of your life with any ramifications, so make the best decision for yourself.

Also, doctors can be lazy about giving a diagnosis or treatment, they may have had 5 patients that week with similar symptoms or have seen so many similar symptoms they jump to the most probable conclusion…though closer examination might have clues them into seeing their initial assumption was wrong.

Thanks for this. And never forget that you’ve got a lot of friends and colleagues here who think about you and are anxious to hear you’re home and on the mend.

FNC Called Out in Full

What is exasperating is the political correctness by the rest of the media to plug their ears and whine if anyone calls Fox a GOP propaganda machine.

The MSM is so afraid of being exposed for what it’s become, it doesn’t want to allow the ball to start rolling even in the case of Fox where most intelligent people know it’s a GOP tool.

IT’S RUN BY THE GUY WHO WAS CREDITED WITH HELPING REAGAN AND BUSH 1 WIN!!! WHAT’S THE BIG FUCKING SURPRISE?

There are so many instances of the public knowing something that they accept goes unspoken or just joked about publicly…and it always ends up protecting scum.

HP Truth Campaign

I agree, a letter written containing facts and logical conclusions is just that.

If some people, including HuffPo, don’t like facts and logical conclusions because of what those facts and logical conclusions expose, welcome to the world of journalism.

Emerald, so sorry to hear about your sister. Keep in mind that you have many here who are and will be thinking about you and wishing you and your family all the best.

Nellie, I think it is a terrific idea. May I suggest two things?

First, I think for such a letter to have impact, it needs to be detailed instead of presenting general criticisms.

We could use this thread to coalesce the specifics and details of what we want to say in this letter. I think it would be positive to recap some history in the letter first:

a. Arianna’s background and 180 degree flip politically
b. That her co-founder of HP was a right wing idealogue
c. The Bill O’Reilly attack that led HP to begin hardcore censorship because it came at the same time they were trying to secure the $25 million investment from Oak Investment Partners.
d. Details about Oak Investments and the other hedge funds involved in HP along with their holdings which include health insurance companies, etc.

Next, we could describe the change in editorial agenda and style, misleading headlines, provocative anti-Obama articles, and Arianna’s showboating with bogus articles and attacks.

Then we can recount and describe what the experience of blogging at HuffPo has become. The Word filter, troll protection, insuring conflict, fully moderating Arianna’s and other’s posts, wiping good comments that don’t fit the agenda or are not confrontational enough, banning productive members because they criticize Arianna, the site’s yellow journalism, the oppression of free speech, the conflict on the site, etc.

We can then connect the dots of what all of the above appears to represent as an agenda.

Secondly, I can draft this in a petition, posted here so that members can sign it online and it can be proliferated around the internet to other sites and outlets by all members.

The only question on this is if we sign it with our actual names. It’s not absolutely necessary but I think it would give it far more weight than being signed by our anonymous usernames. No one would know whose name was connected to whose username except the Admin here, which already keeps that info completely confidential.

Depending on members’ feelings about this, they could just sign it with their username then if all members email me their actual name I can place them in the petition and rearrange the order so no one will know who is who.

Otherwise, we could sign it with just our usernames.

BTW, escribacat’s Rashomon posts are fantastic, I wonder if we could ask some members to volunteer to work with her to put together a breakdown of negative Obama and Obama Admin stories at HuffPo over the last month or two? Also, it would be cool to create a list of HP’s most erroneous or sensationalistic stories. These lists could be posted here under our new Reference category, summarized in the petition and a link could be included in the petition to each of these lists.

Thoughts?

A Nation’s Redemption Story

How can anyone take someone with that mustache seriously?

Seriously, Bolton is so intellectually handicapped, what else would we expect him to say? What’s scary is to think there was a whole administration that “thought” (I use that word very loosely) like and acted like him.

No, the ignorant don’t learn from experience, they just rationalize away reality when it doesn’t fit their solipsistic view of the world.

Any somewhat intelligent person (loyal Fox watchers naturally excluded), has learned too well from Iraq that wars of choice, no matter how much the U.S. overpowers the enemy militarily, can only end in disaster.

Sche, you need to reboot your computer, sounds like a java or graphic driver/memory problem. A reboot should solve that!

MEDIA COVERAGE OF HEALTH CARE REFORM

Terrific post, Cher!

This is a troubling reality. It helps that more people are getting their news from the internet but the MSM still sets the topics of conversation…or ignores the topics that don’t suit its agenda.

I fear we must retake our democracy by battling both the status quo politicians AND the MSM which can shape public opinoin against the public’s best interests.

It isn’t going to be easy but the first step is opening people’s eyes to the way things are and spreading skepticism about whatever is promoted by the MSM.

Your article is a great stride in that direction, nicely done!

God’s Blog – 12-21-09

Thanks so much, my friend! Hope you’re feeling well!

God read your comment and said he was laughing harder than when he designed men’s genitals.

He asked me to forward the following to you:

My dear AuntieChrist, nice to see you. Especially enjoying your holding End Times above the heads of the extremists until they jump at it then pulling it away, very amusing!

Aw, don’t blame me for everyone who says they’re doing something terrible because I told them to do it. Satan does a good impression of me. He also does a great Dick Cheney. And vice versa.

My son appreciated the dradle, though next time you might try to find one with 4 sides and the proper writing on it instead of a 6 on each of the three sides. Merry AntiChristmas!
