Displaying 1,411 To 1,440 Of 19,504 Comments Satire Declares Bankruptcy After Sarah Palin Endorses Donald Trump Nirek, I’d add that Absurdity is making a real move to take a lead over Reality. McCain will always be the Dr. Frankenstein of the GOP, he created the monster Palinstein! » Posted By AdLib On January 25, 2016 @ 10:47 am Appreciate it, jj! X-Files is coming back, this week I think. They could really hit the nail on the head by having a theme of a wealthy pair of brothers mysteriously funding secret experiments that create monstrous versions of human beings who they run for the GOP nomination! Now that’s scary! » Posted By AdLib On January 25, 2016 @ 10:40 am Cheers Monica! The MSM keeps representing the support for Trump as widespread despite the polls showing that his negatives are sky high with non-supporters. Both can’t be true and since the polls have been consistent and the results obvious (Trump has attacked and insulted everyone who isn’t a white Fundamentalist Christian man so of course most other people oppose Trump). I am not concerned about Trump getting sufficient support to win in a GE, without about 50% of the Latino vote and a majority of the women vote, which is impossible for him to get, he can’t win. I’d instead suggest that if Trump is the nominee, a wide majority Latinos, African Americans, women and younger voters will help the Dems win in a big sweep. Thanks for the Carlin video, really miss him, he’d be having a heyday now with Trump running and leading the GOP! » Posted By AdLib On January 25, 2016 @ 10:36 am Thanks Kes! I also hear Denialism and Delusion are going through the roof thanks to Repubs heavily investing in them! » Posted By AdLib On January 25, 2016 @ 10:21 am I hear the coming GOP bankruptcy after November will be “yuuge”! It’s actually kind of like a pyramid scheme with Trump at the top, he gains everything and as the greedy Repub Estab begins buying in despite knowing better that this is a fraud. They deserve to lose everything to this con man. » Posted By AdLib On January 25, 2016 @ 10:18 am Just too darn brilliant, KT! » Posted By AdLib On January 25, 2016 @ 10:13 am PPO, I am definitely selling short on Depression and going long on all the clever commodities you mention in addition to Kleenex, snake oil and suckers. » Posted By AdLib On January 25, 2016 @ 10:12 am KT, Sarah is right, Obama is responsible for all the decisions other people make which would include Sarah Palin saying that he’s responsible for everything so…Sarah Palin is a puppet of Obama!!! » Posted By AdLib On January 25, 2016 @ 10:03 am James, but just think about all the jobs being created by the GOP Primary in the mental health field! » Posted By AdLib On January 25, 2016 @ 10:00 am Weekend Music Thread – Rebel Rebel KT – Wow, you’ve posted so many cool collaborations that Bowie did! Very cool! Really enjoying them! » Posted By AdLib On January 16, 2016 @ 9:39 pm Why Donald Trump Absolutely, Positively Can’t Win the Presidency Escrib, as I mentioned, it is a sign of sanity and reason to be concerned that the worst could happen but the purpose of my post was to illustrate how the numbers and reality dispute the dishonest proposition with which the MSM is blanketing the country. There is no path for Trump in a General Election. None. Even with a record white turnout (which wouldn’t happen because Trump is despised by half the GOP), he still would need Latino votes in a number so high, he could never reach them. There is nothing that Hillary or Bernie could say to make half of Latino voters prefer the guy who calls them rapists and criminals and wants to deport 11 million of their fellow Latinos with a storm trooper force, I do want Trump to win the nom because it will bring about the massive crushing of the GOP in November and unlike in 2010, it will be a long time before they can pull themselves back together to be a viable alternative to Dems. Repubs will be in a long term civil war with themselves if Trump wins the nom and is destroyed in the GE. The establishment GOP will try to lock out the Tea Party from power while the TP will blame them for not supporting Trump enough and causing him to lose. Will the TP revolt and leave the GOP, reducing it to a much smaller minority party? Or will they redouble their efforts to take full control of it? The GOP soap opera following the election will be so entertaining. All that said, we will still need to GOTV and work as hard as if it was a neck and neck race…just so we can make the inevitable victory for Dems over hateful Repubs the sweetest it can be. » Posted By AdLib On January 11, 2016 @ 10:54 pm Kalima, folks should have confidence in the numbers and ignore the MSM hype. Everything that pours out from the MSM is just snake oil, it’s a fraud, they built up Trump because he’s a cash cow for their channels but the reality is in the numbers. Even in polls of Repubs, Trump has enormous negatives. I’d say from the numbers that half of the GOP doesn’t want to support him. I’ve heard of Repubs saying they’ll vote Hillary before they’ll vote Trump. And the reverse isn’t true, Dems aren’t looking at Trump as a better alternative. If Trump loses IA, he will go mental. He isn’t emotionally prepared for losing so publicly. If he loses the GOP nom, he will be devastated..if he gets the nom, he will be destroyed when he loses to Hillary or Bernie. That’s what’s called a win-win! » Posted By AdLib On January 11, 2016 @ 10:25 pm PPO, yep, there will be a Live Chat tomorrow night for Pres. Obama’s final State of the Union speech and on Thursday for the GOP debate. Busy week here at The Planet! It is a bit stunning to witness but since the MSM is all owned by greedy corporations, they are intentionally and dishonestly inflating the possibility of Trump winning in a GE because it makes their ratings and profits increase. They are all betraying the public for money, including every single broadcaster that parrots that BS. It was a long shot anyway for the GOP to win a Presidential due to the continued growth of minority populations and the farther extremes and racism that have taken over the GOP. No matter who the candidate is, they would still need to win around 47% of the Latino vote. Jeb may have had a better chance at that before he veered towards racism but he’d still lose. America looks like the Dem Party, not the mostly old white GOP and with each year, the Dems grow a bigger advantage. Hence the necessity of Repubs to pass voter suppression laws and go nuts on gerrymandering. They can win on a level playing field and they know it. I do predict an historic crash and burn by the GOP this November, especially if Trump or Cruz is their nom. I do think we will get The Senate back, poor Mitch the Tortise will be crying in his shell. And that will work very well if SCOTUS judges need replacing as is very likely. We will turn the corner on these hateful Repubs and this election will be a big step forward on that. » Posted By AdLib On January 11, 2016 @ 10:16 pm Weekend Music Thread – Color My World Thanks for posting this, Kalima. Kind of a shock but very sad. Bowie was such a singular talent and made such an impact with his talent and creativity. Hard to believe he’s gone. But he’ll always be remembered as a cultural hero. RIP. » Posted By AdLib On January 11, 2016 @ 9:49 pm Hey PPO, glad the surgery went well! You may have to take a little hiatus from River Dancing but what a relief! And don’t be bothered over the scar, they fade over time and you can come up with a whopper of a story to tell anyone who sees it! “I thought I could ride that shark bareback all day till he threw me off and sliced my leg with his fin…right here, see?” Take care, take your pain meds as you need them and rest well! » Posted By AdLib On January 11, 2016 @ 9:43 pm The 5 Changes to Elections We Need to be a Genuine Democracy Hey goleafsgo! Yes, that sounds like a very sensible and fair-minded approach to redistricting in a non-political way. Canada gets a lot of things very right that the US doesn’t (on this, guns, health care, etc.). It’s really more of a state-by-state thing here in the US when it comes to election reform because we have many Southern and other red states fighting in the other direction, not wanting a stronger democracy or the most people voting, hence all the voter suppression laws they’ve been passing. As long as we can get the blue and especially, purple states to go down this road on reform (especially outlawing gerrymandering), we can wall off the skewed influence of the manipulated votes in red states. » Posted By AdLib On January 8, 2016 @ 12:25 pm Thanks Nirek! Actually, I think Trump’s freedom to discriminate hurts him more. By declaring that “You’re either with me or against me!”, his candidacy in a GE is more and more damaged. This is exactly what one would expect from a demagogue/fascist and I think it’s a good thing for those opposing him that he gets the platform to advertise how intolerant he is. He can never win in a GE but I’ll take all the insurance I can get! » Posted By AdLib On January 8, 2016 @ 12:17 pm Hey Kes! Yes, this is a list that includes a number of proposals we’ve discussed here at The Planet but as you mention, my intent was to assemble a complete election reform agenda. There are a variety of other things that could be done to support a stronger democracy but if we could see this package completed, they would be easy to add to the mix. I think that if people saw that a more representative government was getting the things done that the people wanted, they would be more energized about voting, they’d see a direct connection between their vote and what happens after an election. As it is, it’s just the opposite. People vote then see nothing get done that was promised (thanks to GOP stonewalling). » Posted By AdLib On January 8, 2016 @ 12:12 pm Trump Flattered By Satan’s Compliments jjgravitas, I agree with you and PPO, the GOP is a virtual partner with ISIS, both of them handing Mr. Satan the best Christmas present possible…other than an official Donald Trump Toupee of Hate with Kung Fu Bigot grip. » Posted By AdLib On December 24, 2015 @ 9:23 am Thanks Kes! Yes, sure looks like it’s going to be standing room only in the VIP (Very Insane People) section of Hell. Wouldn’t want to be in an eternal sauna with that ugly mob! Wishing you a very Happy Holidays too my friend! And a wonderful New Year! » Posted By AdLib On December 24, 2015 @ 9:18 am Thanks my friend! You nailed it, it’s really getting hard to satirize Trump for two reasons. First of all, the genuine threat his candidacy poses is very serious but secondly, from day to day, he says things that are so actually outrageous, it’s hard to find a way to exaggerate them. I mean, if you had told me a year ago that the front runner for the GOP would be welcoming endorsements from neo Nazi leaders, the brutal dictator of Russia and domestic terrorists, I’d have said, “Don’t you think you’re going a bit big on the satire?” But that is the reality, a Republican running on a Cro-Magnon platform of hating other races, religions and the opposite sex and lying about all the things he’s going to do to permanently solve all these “problems”. The good thing is that a majority of American voters are disgusted by Trump, a recent poll just came out showing 50% of Americans would be embarrassed if Trump became President as opposed to around 23% who would be proud. In that moral swamp that is today’s GOP, Trump’s being a crass, obnoxious, hateful liar is a definite asset but should he win the nom and have to come out of that swamp bubble to face the real world, he has no hope of ever winning. And one thing I like to share is some simple math. The Repub nom, whoever it is, has to win about 40% of the Latino vote to win the Presidency. Trump couldn’t be more despised by Latinos, he’d be lucky to get 5% of the vote. Due to this, there is simply no path for him to win. And add to that all the other groups of voters he’s denigrated, women, African Americans, Asians, Muslims, students, etc., he would lose “yuuge!” in a GE. The GOP and the nation needs to purge itself of Trump and the bigots that follow him and I think that the way to do that, as happened with Goldwater, the Moral Majority, etc., is to let them stand on the national stage to be seen in full for who they are then rejected wholly in a big defeat. They will shrink after that, in size and influence. Their outsized control over the GOP and through them, the nation will be squashed because they will finally have had their shot at offering themselves to the American public and will be shown to be utter losers. And imagine how crazy it will get Trump to lose in such a big way, the man whose whole life has been built on convincing others that he is a winner. I hope for and welcome Trump winning the GOP nom because I want him and the Tea Party bigots truly defeated. Then again, my second favorite scenario is Trump not getting enough delegates to win, having a brokered convention where the establishment GOP forces the nom on anyone other than Trump then the Tea Party and Trump followers revolt against the GOP and 2016 becomes a massacre for the GOP up and down the ticket. » Posted By AdLib On December 23, 2015 @ 11:44 am Thanks Nirek! Another way to describe them is Three Strikes and the GOP is out! » Posted By AdLib On December 23, 2015 @ 11:19 am I haven’t written a God’s Blog for a while but what you wrote covers that ground nicely! Right now Satan is hard at work as a Trump consultant helping him with his VP pick, figuring out whether he should choose Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney again or Martin Shkreli. » Posted By AdLib On December 23, 2015 @ 11:18 am Weekend Music Thread – Deeper Tracks Hey, The Kinks say, “Live Life”!
» Posted By AdLib On December 19, 2015 @ 5:08 pm James, thank you for this excellent and well researched article, it accurately portrays the sadism that has been baked into at least some of the Baltimore PD. As you probably know by now, it is a hung jury in this first trial of an officer for the death of Freddie Gray. The sickening thing about this is that one of the defenses for Officer William Porter was that it wasn’t regular procedure for police to buckle in the people they arrest, hence, he wasn’t violating regular procedure. So, essentially, the fact that they abuse the people they arrest on a regular basis by not buckling them in and giving them rough rides…was a defense for Porter. I don’t know if the prosecutors presented the substantial history you recounted of police brutality through rough rides but if they did, this hung jury shouldn’t have happened over such a defense. So far, there hasn’t been much reaction in the streets of Baltimore to this, perhaps since it’s a hung jury as opposed to a not guilty verdict. There is so much denial in this country. People don’t want to believe that a meaningful percentage of cops are violent and unprincipled. Or that our justice system is unjust when it comes to people of color and holding those with power responsible for their actions. This is a severe social crisis in America, it’s been going on for a very long time as your article points out, this disease of racism, hatred and brutality that has infected so many police forces. Addressing that core problem is a huge task and add to that, the enormous task of wringing the injustice out of our courts. Such a massive core problem for this country and in the end, it can only be addressed when people stand up and force our leaders to take necessary steps. They won’t do it on their own for political reasons which is also disgusting, sitting by and letting police kill and injure citizens with no price to be paid. I can’t say I’m optimistic about the outcome of this and other trials of officers who killed Freddie Gray. Our current court system doesn’t seem very capable of holding cops accountable even for the most horrible of actions. But I think the (hopefully peaceful) protests that grow after each injustice will eventually prevail in helping to move a majority towards demanding the kind of widespread reform so desperately needed. » Posted By AdLib On December 16, 2015 @ 3:00 pm Trump Sews a Swastika Onto The American Flag Kalima, wow…it’s pretty much impossible to satirize or exaggerate Trump as a politician, he is so extreme, any jokes about him being a candidate for Neo-Nazis or an ally of ISIS are actually reality. This will all work out though, he is so repugnant to all but the pro-fascist GOP base, he would destroy the GOP if he got the nom…so I’m hoping he does. And Cruz is being talked up as his only likely competition, the results would be just as bad for the GOP. Sometimes you have to hold your nose over the short term, knowing that in the long term the offensive things will be flushed away. » Posted By AdLib On December 10, 2015 @ 12:36 pm Kes, I appreciate the concern there is if Trump is one election away from becoming President but he can’t win. It’s just not possible. Indies won’t vote for him, women won’t, blacks won’t and what’s key is that he can’t win a GE without around 40% of the Latino vote no matter what and that will never happen. Trump is a poison pill for the GOP and I sure hope they swallow it. » Posted By AdLib On December 9, 2015 @ 11:45 am Funk, I think what you say is true too. But if someone dresses up in a KKK hood just to get the KKK vote, are they not in the same boat? While I agree that Trump probably doesn’t truly believe in most of the horrible things he says and is just using the bigotry, fear and hatred of the GOP core to his advantage, I don’t see any difference between Trump insincerely championing bigotry and sincerely doing so. Either way he is a bigot and demagogue. » Posted By AdLib On December 9, 2015 @ 11:40 am Thanks Nirek! If you don’t think Trump will get the nomination, who do you think is more likely? Cruz or Rubio? Sure doesn’t look like Jeb!, he’s still swirling the drain at around 5% in polls. Must say, I am getting a lot of satisfaction about that! » Posted By AdLib On December 9, 2015 @ 11:34 am And we’ll have a new national anthem then too: “Trumpland, Trumpland über alles, » Posted By AdLib On December 9, 2015 @ 11:32 amComments Posted By AdLib
