And the Maddow/Politi-Fact thing seems silly. She emphatically declared for 2 solid minutes that Wisconsin was scheduled for a surplus. Declares without hesitation that the state is not bankrupt. Then, she casually mentions the $140 million “shortfall” and blames it on Walker’s tax cuts for corporations which, and I’ve found nothign contrary to this, won’t even be on this budget. I went back and watched her show. Still drawing the same conclusions. Maybe Politi-Fact did take her out of context. But just barely. She didn’t exactly make it clear that Wisconsin was in a shithole because of it’s own stupid spending. If the Republicans are taking advantage of it to further their own goals, then Dems need to keep doing what they’re doing. Politics is a bitch, but I can’t lay the failures of an entire state at the feet of one man who just got elected. And I am struggling for a way to put this without going on a profanity laced tirade about “owning” property. The 14 million who own homes. How many own them? Let’s say 12 million of them are financially secure with their home. 2 million people were irresponsible home owners. Well, the loss of their property, through a long chain of manipulation, causes a percentage of those other 12 million to lose their home when means beyond their direct control conspire against them to take away a home they’ve always been responsible for. Isn’t that what happened? These asshole brokers KNEW these home loans and mortgage packages had a high probability of failure and not only would they scoop up all those houses to sell for profit, they get whatever homes were lost when property values plummeted and mortgage payments ballooned, for almost nothing! And the banks didn’t care about the losses. They knew we’d be paying for it. And the bitch of it all is that we gave the banks TRILLIONS of dollars to make up for it and now they are just selling it back to us at ridiculous rates for even more fucking profits! How can you own property if there is a tax on it?! I gotta pay you to fucking own something?! Are you kidding me?! If someone you’ve never met can take it away from you with a piece of paper, you NEVER owned it. And I am getting way off topic here. Sorry for the cussin’, Abby. An entire country must suffer for the recklessness of a handful of it’s citizens. Home owners. How I hate them. More people rent than own. The number of rented houses has increased 40% in the last 5 years. In a country of over 300 million, only about 14 million people actually “own” a home. And that’s an all time high. I say “own” because, was it ever really yours? Somewhere there’s a bank that could take it away from you pretty easily. They couldn’t get your TV but they can take the house it’s in lickity-split.(that’s right. I said it) Unless you can get enough out of the TV to pay them off. The American Dream shouldn’t be about owning a home. It should be about raising your children to be responsible, productive citizens. And as far as winning or losing, like anyone I want my ideas to win out but if they are defeated by a fair democratic majority, I can accept that. That’s democracy. But I don’t even feel represented in any election. I’m lose/lose. The losses would be so much easier to accept if I actually felt like someone was speaking my voice. First of all, I’m pretty sure Walker told everyone in no uncertain terms during the campaign that reductions for state employees was high on his agenda(yes, he did not mention taking away collective bargaining but, come on, he’s a Republican). And he still won. It seems that it isn’t only Scot Walker who hates unions but most of Wisconsin as well. Either that or they’re idiots. It’s cool that state Democrats are trying whatever they can to stall a vote on this or avoid it completely. It’s straight out of the Republican playbook. About time they fought fire with fire. And disagree all you want with the “Tea Party” but all they did was what every American should do. They spoke up. While everyone was chastising them and making fun of their hats, they were making inroads toward Washington. I’m not abig an of most of their platform but god bless’em for showing Americans what they’re suppose to do. As for the Koch brothers. I don’t really care. Rich industrialists bankrolling politicians is not a fucking huge revelation. No one has pulled back the curtain. You get what you vote for. About 50 cents apiece to import them to their stores. They could charge only $10 and still make an obscene profit. Especially considering that 90% of their “merchandise” comes from the same area in southeast Asia. The biggest costs to any company are production and labor. I don’t know if you saw Michael Moore’s movie Capitalism: A love Story but he has this story about these people in, I believe, Pennsylvania. Anyways, they closed their county facilities and basically “privatized” their juvenile legal system. A private company built the prison, AT THE EXPENSE OF TAXPAYERS!, and basically got paid for every kid they could throw in there. And the guy who owned it already had a judge in his pocket so he kept a petty steady stream of kids going into the facility for months or years at a time for nothing.
