THE GREEN THING

Recycling in America can still be very much improved. New technology allows recycling centers to sort on site so that you don’t have to have a dozen different bins to load.

Recyclables are still a commodity so money can be made off of them. We sell a big chunk of our scrap to China though and they use it to make shit they can sell back to us for a profit. It’s ridiculous. We could recycle it here, repackage it and sell it here, and create a ton of jobs.

Recycling fraud is also a big problem. A firm in New Hampshire sold recyclable bulbs to schools but didn’t actually have ways to recycle them. They just stored them in buildings around the state. And there are toxic chemicals in those things, so recycling them is a top priority for their use.

Toxic waste is our biggest problem. The shit even gets dumped in landfills. They found one company storing it in abandoned buildings all over the low income areas of Chicago. And, unless you track it all the way yourself, there is no way to know for sure your junk is recycled. We do pretty good. People want to recycle and there are plenty of legit centers all over the country.

But shit still gets lost in the clutter. Too many private companies looking to make a quick buck. And, believe it or not, there is plenty of money to be made in waste. Recycling should get the same attention as green energy and other green tech. A national recycling policy with adequate funding wouldn’t hurt either.

I’m not the one who still insists legal causes for an illegal action. What we did is illegal. We illegally caged people. And you still wanna argue laws. I;m sure they made the same arguments for Japanese Americans in ’42.

You may deal with policy changes everyday but the United States Congress doesn’t. See, that’s who I was talking about. Not you. I know there is away you do things. A way you see things done. But I’m afraid it’s not universal. Congress provides politically expedient “solutions”. When people are displeased, they blame it on the other side and we move on.

Nothing worth doing is ever easy. And you are wrong. Change occurs exactly because we want it. I don’t believe I listed any of my personal wants in that comment. These are needs. Would you disagree? I “want” nothing. I’m quite content as I am. I only wanna see people get what is due them. And if that makes me stupid, then I’m stupid.

We had NO RIGHT to imprison the VAST MAJORITY of people in GITMO. And NOW you wanna talk laws? That ship has sailed. ‘Course, it’s hard to understand until you’re imprisoned for nothing.

A third party will rise. It’s inevitable. How many times you gonna watch these 2 Parties carry us to the brink before you’ve said enough? You may be fine with excepting what we’re given and what we’re told. I am not. That may piss you off but welcome to America. I don’t care if democracy doesn’t “fly” somewhere.

Achievable? O.K.

Free education, free health care, new schools, new hospitals, equal rights for all Americans, an end to foolish wars, open borders, actual free trade, new jobs, 1% unemployment, a lower retirement age, a higher wage, new fuel technologies, and do I need to go on?

Shit we should have ALREADY HAD! But we don’t. ‘Cause the country is divided. This is what happens when you secede control to 2 polar opposite Parties who convince everyone that justice delayed is justice served. has convinced everyone that things we seem to think of as rights are open for debate. Convinced that any deviation from the program will cost the country everything. And it’s all bought with a WHOLE LOT of rhetoric.

Good point on the healthcare issue Cher. A lot of people still will not make it without doctor visits and meds. Everyone’s health is different.

And I will in no way claim there aren’t racist people here. Terribly racist! Back home you could go to the flea market and get all kinds of questionable attire. How many schools let kids walk around with a t-shirt depicting Klansmen burning a cross with the words “The Real Boys In The Hood” over top of it? That was a popular shirt when I was in school.

But Lexington is pretty liberal as far as Kentucky goes. A Democratic mayor, AGAIN, went Democratic in state and federal elections, and Obama won Lexington. We try to get beyond all the bullshit but it’s VERY country here in some places. Particularly where I was raised.

1.)I’d like something resembling the Japanese school system. 6 days a week, shorter days, little 1 or 2 week breaks here and there through out the year, all year long.

Those are some good reasons. I always felt that 2000 years of INTENSE persecution would probably cause you to develop a pretty thick skin and good sense of humor as well.

Mel Brooks is the greatest comedy writer of all time, in my humble opinion. I’m sure some would argue Woody Allen. I’m also a huge fan of Albert Brooks.

Having comedy as a key component of your culture is awesome. Laughing with the world. Not at it. Good article.

KT, I think her argument is that this isn’t what he said. And she’s right. He said “IF OTHERS want to call me..etc., etc.” and basically said he didn’t do this for the praise but because it must be done.

I think she believes he wasn’t a self promoter and I have to agree with that. But I also agree with you. He was these things. Even if he didn’t want the notoriety, those are the things he wanted his legacy to be about.

If you’re gonna praise me, praise me for the right things. Seems like semantics but I’d expect no less from a poet laureate. 🙂

They don’t debate, argue, whatever you wanna call it. Challenging ideas is the hallmark of an enlightened species. But they won’t.

They breeze over whatever you just said and go right back into talking points. And I wouldn’t even mind that if they had a reasonable argument to back them up. Hell, ANY argument to back it up. Lie, give me some figures you got on the Drudge Report, something! Democrats use talking points too, everyone does, but it’s just a launching point to a larger debate. Not their whole damn argument!

And who cuts taxes during a war?! TWO WARS?! The previous administration provided a detailed blueprint of what NOT to do and it’s centerpiece was cutting taxes. Oh, and they raised spending to unprecedented levels.

Clinton didn’t spend that much and that motherfucker LOVED to spend. And every President gets blamed for their predecessors failures. Bush I got shafted by Reagan’s dismal second term decisions. Obama is taking heat for Bush II’s.

It’s SO goddamn obvious! It’s right in front of heir faces! HOLY SHIT IT MAKES ME ANGRY!
