Lot’s of people find something that works and they ride it for as long as they can. Like Larry the Cable Guy and that “Get’er Done!” horseshit. Louis C.K. is like an old school comedian. Like Carlin or Pryor. There are themes to his comedy but it’s entirely new material every year. That is incredibly difficult! Dane Cook rode the same act for 5 goddamn years! I got to the story after the interview had started so I don’t know if anyone ever brought up WHY these kids felt they had to do this. There was a funny part to it though. In most of these cases students pay someone else to take the test for them. This happened here. A man in his 30’s, I believe, took the tests for everyone of them. Even the one female student. No one caught it til WELL after the fact and the police had gotten involved. It seemed like major overkill. And that we were putting emphasis on the wrong thing. And who tha fuck jokes and laughs about kids who just had their entire lives ruined?!! Fail them on the test. Make them take it again. The Nassau County District Attorney was being interviewed on CNN like she had just broken up a major crime ring. And she sounded disappointed that the kids had to be treated as “youthful offenders”. Then she started giving her 2 cents about the education system and the sacred nature of the SAT test and how unfair it is to colleges and I just went off. First of all, you arrested children for cheating on a test. You didn’t “take down a crime ring”. That’s pathetic. That’s sad. And you wanna talk about unfair? The American education system is unfair. And then you put these kids entire lives into one meaningless test. A test that will define their entire life going forward. And you think it’s unfair to the colleges?! She mentioned they had “mediocre” GPAs and that’s what tipped her off. Well, what did you expect them to do? Accept their lot in life? Accept a future of minimum wage and endless debt? Did anyone care WHY they had mediocre GPAs? Hell no. Schools are a fucking assembly line. Send’em in and get’em out. And your answer is to lead away children in handcuffs and celebrate it on CNN like it were something special? This country’s priorities are fucked up. We don’t care enough to help the children but we will destroy their lives for “breaking the rules”. It’s a story that should lead to a deeper discussion of our education system but no one cares.
