This Sunday is Father’s Day so it will be nice to put aside all the important concerns of this time for a moment to celebrate love and family.
This weekend’s music thread is for songs about fathers, songs about good men, good deeds, personal heroes, children and of course, love.
Now it’s your turn to musically celebrate fathers for all they do (except hogging the TV remote).
If you don’t think I realize these are covers, scroll below.
I love my dad but not everyone had the same experience.
This is a picture of me with my dad. He brought me up with The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Kinks, John Prine, Dire Straits, all that – so whilst not “dad related lyrically” you may see some of that. I called him today, I love my dad even though I know he’s in his 70s. And I still think he’s lame for not being into the Doors or King Crimson.
Hope this resonates:
Why is Judy Collins (My Father’s Eyes) missing?
Once, I lived in Ohio. On a farm. Forty some years ago. I had a set of Bose speakers that hung from the ceiling, and a Bose amp that was ‘state of the art’. The vinyl I probably listened to the most was Collins, and this song was the best.
Sadly, the ‘new’ medium doesn’t even come close to capturing the exquisite sound of Collins in that album. Still, the muffled residue let’s you know the genius behind the lyric.
It’s not missing…it’s just waiting to be added. That’s how the music thread works, folks join in and post their favorite songs on the theme.
And I agree on the feel and substance of music from vinyl vs. digital. Vinyl is back in with younger people, it’s having a bit of a resurgence.
In any case, please feel free to add songs to the thread, just paste the URL from YouTube and post it, it will immediately appear. In the meantime…
Thanks, AdLib. This version at least approximates the original (minus the top and bottom ends, which may have more to do with my present poor quality hooked up to my computer). To me, it still sounds like a beautiful gift on Father’s Day.
It’s good to see you still blogging. I need to get back ‘in the loop’.
