Vox Populi, our weekly live chat about the week’s events begins tonight at 7:00pm PDT. Hope to see you then!

AdLib2 days ago

Hey TW! How are things?

AdLib2 days ago

He Ad, things are okay. Was catching up on commentary from MSNBC on latest on hopefully convicted Trump.

twilson117

What were the takeaways?

AdLib2 days ago

Same stuff as they’ve been reporting on after the arrangement yesterday. Nothing new really. But you how it goes. MSNBC is one and everyone else still believes Frump walks on water.

twilson117

It will be interesting to hear what the rest of the group has to say tonight.

twilson117

I’ve reached the point where I get a bit worn out on the redundant takes on MSNBC that are just tap dancing until actual news comes along.

AdLib2 days ago

Ad you’re correct on that fact.

twilson117

I do think it’s funny that Trump’s lawyer is damning him on the chanrges in tv interviews!

AdLib2 days ago

Hey Harleigh!

AdLib2 days ago

Hey Harleigh

twilson117

Ad yes he wants the trail televised

twilson117

hey guys

Harleigh

Every legit lawyer/prosecutor has said Trump is nailed dead to rights on these charges, which represent up to 55 years in prison.

AdLib2 days ago

Trump keeps setting precedents, how about running for president after being convicted of federal crimes including conspiracy to deny the rights of people to have their votes counted?

AdLib2 days ago

Yes they have, but the trial has to happen and conviction obtained.

twilson117

lets hope so

Harleigh

The polls showing Biden neck and neck with Trump are garbage polls. Remember after the 1/6 Commission hearings, Trump’s approval tanked. What do you think his ratings will be after 4 criminal trials and 4 sets of convictions after detailed evidence and testimony spotlighting how evil he is?

AdLib2 days ago

Harleigh what are folks saying down your way?

twilson117

Harleigh, are people taking down their “DeSantis For President” signs yet?

AdLib2 days ago

Ad it’s way too early for me to give any real credence to any polls. But as I”ve said before the press could stop being so negative and wishy-washy on Biden

twilson117

I’m so enjoying pompous DeSantis getting crushed around the nation in polling and his campaign crashing and burning. He and his horrible wife thought they were so entitled to becoming dictators of the nation and now they are having their faces rubbed in what losers they are and how DeSantis’ political career will be over when he’s forced to leave the governorship in 2026.

AdLib2 days ago

Hello all…esp. Harleigh!

MurphTheSurf3

Hey Murph!

AdLib2 days ago

Murphy is in the House Hey Murphy

twilson117

one of trials is down here, mara lardo is where all the documents were stashed. Guilty.

Harleigh

In the House or under the house!……been a long week…..super big rain and thunder storm nights…..

MurphTheSurf3

TW – And now the big banks have come out to say there isn’t going to be a recession despite their rooting for one for the past year. And unemployment at record lows, Biden will be riding such a great economic wave in 2024.

AdLib2 days ago

DEsewer is just a little punk in white rubber gogo boots

Harleigh

Harleigh – I think Canon, who just had another story about her messing up a different trial, is terrified that she will be terribly tainted if she makes one wrong step on the documents case, she’s probably going to try to be fairer just to save her career.

AdLib2 days ago

hey murph!

Harleigh

Harleigh…now there’s an image for you….little punk in white rubber goo boots.

MurphTheSurf3

Murph – Wow, stay safe and far away from flagpoles and trees.

AdLib2 days ago

I have friends who were/are academics in the Sunshine State….they say that the colleges and universities are bleeding out in re. to their best faculty….leaving the state the moment they get an offer and how hard it has become to fill those slots.

MurphTheSurf3

And who mounted DeSantis’ head on a bobblehead spring. And he laughs like an alien trying to mimic a human laughing. The public sees him as the freak he is and all the time he thought he was cool!

AdLib2 days ago

Ad…Ioved his sneer when he commented on a kid’s ice cone.

MurphTheSurf3

Murph I remember years ago when I was younger there used to be a lot of floods in your neck of the woods.

twilson117

Education in FL = MS

Harleigh

Murph – I assume you saw that The COllege Board will no longer recognize AP Psychology classes in FL because they are outlawed from including LGBTQ matters.

AdLib2 days ago

TW…..well, we have had a lot of rain in the last week….I am happy for the precipitation….but lots of lightning and wind too……

MurphTheSurf3

All, DeSatan wants to export his crap throughout the county

twilson117

Murph – This is exactly what happens when toxic Republicans thrive in their bubbles, they go out across the country with a completely deranged and inflated view of how wonderful they are then get stomped down by public opinion because they are so cluelessly toxic.

AdLib2 days ago

Murph, maybe we out to spread the rumor it’s God sending them a message for their support of Trump.

twilson117

Ad…I did see that…AND, what I understand is that the College Board is requiring every school system to submit outlines all AP course for content review.

MurphTheSurf3

Harleigh – Hate to say it but in red extremist states like FL and TX, education and healthcare are crumbling and will get really bad which will keep people from moving in and chase people to set up their lives and careers elsewhere.

AdLib2 days ago

TW……I like that notion….a plague (or a Trump) on all your houses.

MurphTheSurf3

Murph It would be interesting to see how they would react.

twilson117

Murph – That’s smart of them to do now that RW Repub governments are dictating bigoted curriculums. Soon, a FL/TX/MO/etc. HS diploma will be insufficient to get into top colleges in other states.

AdLib2 days ago

You all know that I have a former student who is a senior manager at WDW….he tells me that things are not going well in general at the world’s happiest place for a number of reasons but a key one is how the new District Management structure keep tossing sand into the gears.

MurphTheSurf3

So…will Trump be convicted of election crimes AND be sentenced to prison?

AdLib2 days ago

Did you see what Trump messaged today? “IF YOU GO AFTER ME, I’M COMING AFTER YOU.” Shouldn’t a judge pull him into custody about now? How explicit do the threats need to get?

AdLib2 days ago

All the guy who won his AA case against Harvard and UNC is now going after West Point

twilson117

I have spoken of the excellent superintendent we have in our school district….well, HAD….he has informed the board here that he will not return as his efforts to moderate efforts to make the lives of so many kids hell have largely failed. He will not be associated with them. A huge loss and so close to the start of the school year.

MurphTheSurf3

Murph – Yes, I saw that. WDW will have problems until they can win their federal suit against DeSaster and FL which they clearly will. Then, federal sanctions will stop the harassment.

AdLib2 days ago

TW…West Point….for what?

MurphTheSurf3

TW – SCOTUS already declared West Point can continue with AA so that suit is pointless.

AdLib2 days ago

Murph same reason he’s looking for possible plaintiffs who were rejected based on race

twilson117

TW……oh….same song, same dance……

MurphTheSurf3

Ad I know but unless this is an Onion article and I missed that I will go back and check it out to make sure it’s accurate, because I agree that is what the SC ruled and it would seem stupid for him to defy that.

twilson117

Murph – As we discussed, there will be a real Balkanization of Red states and Blue states when it comes to education, medical care and personal freedom situations. Red States will become ghettos for all and mostly have only in-state populations, people will flock to Blue states wher their kids can get good educations, medical treatment and rights and freedoms. Who would choose to set up a family and career in any of those states if they were starting out? Especially anyone with a daughter, who would want them to be essentially a baby machine for the state?

AdLib2 days ago

TW…well if Alabama can defy the court re.congressional redistricting….why not?

MurphTheSurf3

Once again, predictions on whether Trump will be convicted and sentence to prison on election fraud charges, what do you think?

AdLib2 days ago

Hey CL!

AdLib2 days ago

Ji! We have a full house! Hi AD, Harleigh, Murph, and TW – lovely to see you all.

choicelady

Ad….I agree with your assessment……several of the major med systems here have pulled back on major plans for expansion and are looking toward Illinois.

MurphTheSurf3

Forgive typos please – eyes are getting worse by the day.

choicelady

Choice, choice, choice!

MurphTheSurf3

Murph, Murph, Murph!!!

choicelady

Hi cl

Harleigh

Murph – The thing is, AL won’t be able to defy the court, they are likely going to direct the local federal court to do the redistricting.

AdLib2 days ago

Hi Harleigh!

choicelady

Choice….so sorry….do you have a verbal dictation option?

MurphTheSurf3

Murph just checked it’s a NY Times article By Anemona Hartocolllis

twilson117

CL is in the House.

twilson117

Not on this system. Maybe my laptop, but not this one.

choicelady

Hey TW!

choicelady

Ad….I think you are correct but I wonder what the Justices on the court are thinking in re. to the action….

MurphTheSurf3

Murph – And any companies expanding their businesses are not going to be looking as much in Red states if they want to attract top talent. The top people have their choice of companies to work for and they are not going to prefer these RW ghetto states.

AdLib2 days ago

Ad….also true I think.

MurphTheSurf3

Murph – I’d assume the justices are pissed off at this rejection of our system of justice and energized to take the redistricting into their own hands.

AdLib2 days ago

Ad as to your question about conviction and penalties for the ex-prez…….conviction, yes…..what next….my guess is house arrest with very severe restrictions.

MurphTheSurf3

Ad will the Red Judges learning anything from rejection by the Red Legislators.

MurphTheSurf3

Interesting note on Twitter – a medical system dropped a patient for her hostility to their LGBTQ staff and providers. I think this will be interesting – if providers don’t have to serve LGBTQ people, is the reverse true and they don’t have to serve homophobes?

choicelady

CL….where was that medical system.

MurphTheSurf3

Murph – That is a good prediction. But considering how severe the charges are against Trump and how conviction on all counts would total a max of 55 years, I think it will be hard for the judge to sentence Trump to Mar-a-Lago instead. And other judges in other cases (aside from the FL docs case) may be pushed by any house arrest to issuing real prison time. Especially as Trump keeps whipping up insurrection.

AdLib2 days ago

Murph = not clear. I think I might have bookmarked that tweet. It oddly got very little response though it may be pathbreaking.

choicelady

All this reemergence of hostility is going to lead to some very, very bad stuff throughout the country which people like Trump and DeSantis will lay claim to that they are the only ones who can fix it.

twilson117

Murph – My guess is that the District Courts will want to make an example out of AL and come down hard on the court drawing maps to warn off any other states from trying the same thing.

AdLib2 days ago

Did anyone see that Eastman is standing by his call for insurrection as of today? I’m NOT sure the CA Bar will entertain that well in his license review.

choicelady

This is how it started in countries we’ve discussed who dismantled their democracy.

twilson117

Ad……I suspect that house arrest will have to be outside of a public venue….literally arrest in a house with very little external contact (no internet, no travel, no parties) and the Secret Service will be charged with supervising it all.

MurphTheSurf3

CL I didn’t see that.

twilson117

TW – I don’t think it’s quite the same. None of them had the pushback we have given.

choicelady

TW I hope I bookmarked that Tweet. Neither the state or area was given, but the name of the medical system was. I can probably find it. IF I saved the tweet…

choicelady

CL – Very good question and I think clearly, the answer is that medical entities now have the right to drop anti-LGBTQ patients and staff the same way homophobic medical people have a SCOTUS-issued right to reject LGBTQ folks. Live by the hate, dies by the hate.

AdLib2 days ago

CL……Eastman is a zealot, a true believer.

MurphTheSurf3

CL I want to believe that, but it does seem folks are becoming more balkanized

twilson117

I really do think it’s possible, depending on Trump’s in court acts, for him to be sent to solitary in a max prison.

choicelady

Choice…..there are “farm” prisons such as those that the Watergaters were sent to…..

MurphTheSurf3

TW – I do agree we’re Balkanized, but we’re just BIGGER than the MAGA crowd. Take note of the special elections – Dems are winning EVERYWHERE,

choicelady

aTW – I don’t know, no one came out to support Trump at his indictment this week and few came out at his previous ones, I think the 1/6 prosecutions have rightly scared off mass participation in MAGA violence though the problem will continue to be the mentally disturbed lone wolve MAGAs.

AdLib2 days ago

Murph – one of them is out here in Lompoc. I doubt he’d be sent – it’s a security risk. Some doofuses would try to break him out.

choicelady

Eastman has the courage of his stupidity. The tactic of these RW seditionists is to double down, it may have worked to a degree politically but it will blow up in their faces in court.

AdLib2 days ago

We will not see the rise of militias storming out towns and cities but will likely have more McVeighs. Clinton’s presidency cracked down on extremism. Small group actions became the norm.

choicelady

Ad – I live to see Eastman eat his words.

choicelady

One of my neighbors …… a distant one but still near enough…..is a huge Trump follower…..his daughter is an attorney and has married a woman she dated for years in Ill. He disowned her. I just heard his wife has walked away and his two other kids are siding with the sister lawyer. It is not the first story of this kind that I have heard. Families shattering.

MurphTheSurf3

McVeigh was from my neck of the woods in Western NY. The book “{American Terrorist” was written by two Buffalo News reporters I knew quite well. McV. did NOT act alone – but he was part of a small cell. And those scare me.

choicelady

Ad I believe we’re going to have to pay close attention to see what takes place, maybe folks will wake up and realize that Trump and what he supports is all a pack of lies.

twilson117

Murph – I don’t think Trump will properly respect any house arrest rules, just a matter of whether judges get fed up and finally put him behind bars. But as I said, I can’t imagine all these judges passing on prison for Trump. Maybe one or some but I doubt all will because of the message it would send about treating him as above the law and encouraging the next dictator-type to try the same thing since the only punishment is hanging out at home.

AdLib2 days ago

Murph – that’s a sad but VERY familiar story. I am quite impressed the mother and family left him. I’d LIKE to feel sorry for him – but I can’t.

choicelady

Another interesting thing is that Trump Rallies have ceased and the flag flying is generally gone.

MurphTheSurf3

It’s hard to keep up now with all Spanky’s charges in multiple courts and 2 more coming.

Harleigh

CL – I agree, I think in at least one of his convictions, he will be sentenced for at least some time, to a “country club” prison.

AdLib2 days ago

Ad….let me add to my sentencing idea: an ankle bracelet.

MurphTheSurf3

I think Trump may get a deal on the documents UNLESS it is conclusively proven he sold or traded them to our enemies. There is some evidence for that. But the J6 trial? If he’s convicted, he will do time and NOT at MAL.

choicelady

Ad – I doubt he will go to a country club. Smith and Garland have the goods on how dangerous he is. MAYBE on the docs if he didn’t sell them, but NOT on overthrowing the nation.

choicelady

Ad I believe a couple of nights in a dirty jail cell for contempt will shut Trump up as Christie said he is terrified of going to jail. An two week stay in the a rat infested cell will quite him. But then he will probably make friends with the rats.

twilson117

At one of my Kunce meetings a few days ago, there was a woman who is very smart political operative…..she told us that there is growing concern in the Hawley ranks that his association with Trump and the J6ers is costing him big.

MurphTheSurf3

TW – WRONG. No self respecting rat will have a thing to do with Trump.

choicelady

Murph – Again, even if it starts out as house arrest with an ankle bracelet, Trump can’t control himself and I think he would soon violate the terms and be thrown into prison eventually (they may give him a bunch of warnings first but that won’t stop him, he’s a maniac).

AdLib2 days ago

TW…make friends with the rats…HA

MurphTheSurf3

Murph that is good to hear about fist pumping and fast shoes running Hawley.

twilson117

Ad…your last scenario I find quite believable.

MurphTheSurf3

CL then there is that.

twilson117

Wow – that consultant’s projection is excellent.

choicelady

TW – don’t diss the rats;. They have standards!

choicelady

CL yes the do.

twilson117

CL – You may be right, especially with Loose Cannon as the judge but I think letting him off with a slap on the wrist will make the judges in the other cases more prone to hitting him with real prison time.

AdLib2 days ago

CL…it is pretty clear to me that Hawley’s brand is in decline.

MurphTheSurf3

Ad – Loose Cannon is a pariah in her own field. I think the judge in DC has NO trouble sentencing Trump to Leavenworth or the one in CO. He is a mortal danger to America.

choicelady

TW – Excellent point, I do hope Trump continues crossing the line and gets thrown in jail for at least a bit, I agree that will scare him straight…at least for a little while.

AdLib2 days ago

Murph so the person you mentioned loss his entire family because of is inability to be tolerant and accept his daughter’s life choice? Sad.

twilson117

Murph – music to my eyes! So to speak.

choicelady

Murph – I hope that is true, getting rid of that rodent Hawley and replacing him with the brilliant Kunce would be a big win for MO and the country.

AdLib2 days ago

TW….that is a good summary….his condemnation of one daughter was the catalyst.

MurphTheSurf3

CL…music to my eyes! oh my!

MurphTheSurf3

Trump is still steaming because the Judge addressed him and Mr. Trump and not President Trump. Somehow I sort knew that was coming as he is truly very vain individual.

twilson117

Murph can likely back me up here, but the frothing opposition to gay people is SO misplaced Biblically. The Bible does NOT forbid committed LGBTQ relationships but ABUSIVE one especially with boys. And yet, here we are…

choicelady

Ad…Kunce’s credentials as a marine are going far for him.

MurphTheSurf3

CL – If any judge would sentence Trump to prison, it’s the DC judge. Based on how tough she’s been on the 1/6 MAGAs, she is the real deal. So funny Trump is acting so terrified and trying to get the trial moved out of DC and out of this judge’s court, he is TERRIFIED! Loving that!

AdLib2 days ago

All – Trump can be pissed about the “Mr. Trump” all he chooses, but a woman on Twitter looked it up in Emily Post, and SHE said the proper form of address to a FORMER president is Mr. If Emily said it, it’s rightwous.

choicelady

TW – Wait till Trump is addressed as “Prisoner 34897”.

AdLib2 days ago

CL…..I would have to think a bit on that…..I tend to think of biblical morality is that which endorses the making of more kids….

MurphTheSurf3

Did anyone see the interview with Ifill of the NAACP LDF and (gag)

choicelady

Murph – Kunce is also smart, has charisma and is principled. He is an ideal candidate,

AdLib2 days ago

Sorry – Chris Hayes? She made very clear how racist Trump is relative to DC and, well, everything, but yes he is terrified of this judge.

choicelady

CL – Didn’t see that, tell me more.

AdLib2 days ago

CL they use the destruction of Sodom and Gomora along with Leviticus 18:22 and a few other also in Leviticus

twilson117

CL…..sounds interesting…missedit.

MurphTheSurf3

Ad – She did a great analysis of how racially motivated all the challenges were because Black people were the targets of Trump’s “recounts” and “audits”. There is a full court press to disenfranchise Black voters. She laid it out.

choicelady

I think it MIGHT be on YouTube. It was either yesterday or today.

choicelady

CL – Did you see Trump’s BS dissing DC and its residents as garbage? So smart to convince the potential jury pool to hate him more even before they sit in judgement of him. What an idiot!

AdLib2 days ago

CL….ah….I see…..Trump is definitely racist and his language does give him away.

MurphTheSurf3

CL I did see that.

twilson117

Tw – it’s all mistranslated and misapplied. The fall of Sodom was from incivility to the strangers there. They are what a good Alabama white evangelical calls “Low Sacrifice Christians” who never look to their own flaws but are only too glad to pretend to find rules to bash others.

choicelady

What do you all think of Trump’s calling on Scotus to save him…..right here, right now/

MurphTheSurf3

CL – She nailed it! That BS argument the Repubs are making that this is only about attacking Triump for free speech is blown up by that truth, that Trump did his best to take action to strip black people of their right to vote. Perfect!

AdLib2 days ago

Ad – that was part of what Ifill was talking about – the association of DC with “Blackness” and thus corruption.

choicelady

CL I know but hey it’s what you get with folks who take the Bible in a literal way.

twilson117

Ad – the indictment SAYS it is not addressing speech but ACTS.

choicelady

TW – I think we have to call it an “illiteral way”. They start with poor translation and move badly on from there.

choicelady

I am not particularly popular around here when it comes to faith issues…….I am fond of saying that Yeshua bar Yusef bin Nazrit would not recognize nearly all of those who claim to gather in his name.

MurphTheSurf3

Murph – It’s total schadenfreude for me that Trump is screaming out threats and begging the SCOTUS to prevent a trial from happening…when that’s just not the way things work. He is screaming, “HELP ME! I’M SCARED SHITLESS! THEY’VE GOT ME NAILED FOR MY CRIMES! SOMEBODY STOP MY BEING HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR BREAKING LAWS AND TRYING TO TEAR UP THE CONSTITUTION!” I’m loving it! Just confirmation that he knows they’ve got him dead to rights.

AdLib2 days ago

Harleigh – what does one make of the horrible discovery that Florida has a major uptick in malaria and leprosy? I cannot fathom why.

choicelady

Ad….schadenfreude to the max.

MurphTheSurf3

CL I can’t disagree. Especially when we have consider who did the translation and the complication of the ancient languages and the misinterpretations that were made so often.

twilson117

Ad – yup. And the joke is, they never once upheld him on a single allegation of voter fraud. They are deeply conservative on social issues, not so much on governmental ones.

choicelady

TW – agreed. It’s a right mess.

choicelady

CL – Yes, exactly, it’s a vicious circle of stupidity for Trump. He acted to rob black people of their right to vote and is now saying black people shouldn’t be on a jury against him because his crimes were focused on and perpetrated against black people. So he attacks them more! I love watching Trump setting himself on fire!

AdLib2 days ago

CL it’s mostly stripped down HC down here and many are not vaccinated for anything. I read Polio is back!! WTF??

Harleigh

Ad – I call his constant harangues “Pretzel Politics”. He can’t even keep his own arguments clear.

choicelady

Harleigh…stripped down Health Care…….we are seeing the results of that here as well.

MurphTheSurf3

POLIO???? OMG. I am so sorry.

choicelady

CL – Exactly, the GOP only knows how to lie as a response to truths they don’t like and the BS about Trump being indicted for free speech is such utter and knowing BS. They KNOW it’s BS but that’s all that hollow party of hollow people have left.

AdLib2 days ago

CL for me, one of the major issues we as a people have is how fast things are changing new discoveries being made, moving toward the future that so many are not prepared to deal with.

twilson117

CL…..Pretzel Politics……stale and lacking in salt.

MurphTheSurf3

TW – but we who are Boomers are just as uncomfortable with those changtes as liberals. That does not make us hatemongers.

choicelady

Murph – you just made me gag!!! LOL!!!

choicelady

CL – I’m also amused by Trump and his lawyer spouting out that now they will have the power of subpoena to prove the election was stolen. Yeah, can’t wait to see proof of the Jewish Space Lasers too.

AdLib2 days ago

CL…sorry.

MurphTheSurf3

Ad – power of the subpoena to do again what failed the first time? Good luck with that.

choicelady

CL not all

twilson117

Ad…Trump’s legal team does not impress me.

MurphTheSurf3

CL – That’s a good one. Also the old cliche of throwing spaghetti at the wall works for the spattering of all of Trumps terrible defenses. Though there’s probably plenty of ketchup splattered on Trump’s walls already.

AdLib2 days ago

I wonder if the lack of family presence (esp. as that is being noticed and reported more and more) is wearing him down….

MurphTheSurf3

TW – our generation was the leadership of Civil rights, etc. but it was also the white kids pouring drinks on Black kids’ heads. We aren’t one thing. But I do think the majority of America is coming to grips with diversity EVEN IF the Nazi Mammas make it seem otherwise.

choicelady

Spanky is paying legal bills from his PAC’s. I have no idea about spending campaign donations.well. as a member of ‘The Shadow Gubmint’ I can say Jewish Space Lasers don’t actually exist

Harleigh

Murph – Trump’s lawyer went on TV and stipulated his guilt on the charge of trying to prevent the legal function of Congress! His lawyers are morons! Those are the only lawyers who are willing to work for him, morons who fail to recognize that many of his lawyers end up needing defense lawyers and lose their law licenses!

AdLib2 days ago

All have MNBC in background hearing the Special Council is asking from a protective order to prevent Trump from disseminating the discovery information they have to supply.

twilson117

Trump has no family support, is grifting from his own campaign funds, and this isn’t going to end well for him.

choicelady

One of my friends made the comment that Trump hires/pays off all of his allies…..and that includes the family…..but the man is no longer the bringer of fortunes that he used to be.

MurphTheSurf3

Murph – Cohen said he suspects Jared and Ivanka have flipped on Trump. That would be so sweet, his whole thing is about everyone having loyalty to him and if his own daughter turns on him to protect herself, how perfectly Trumpian! He would’ve done the same thing in her situation.

AdLib2 days ago

All – whenever you wonder how Trump’s attorneys could be SO terrible, remember what I learned in the federal trials against Operation Rescue – the attorneys there were from good universities, but they were HORRIBLE. Never forget that someone has to graduate at the BOTTOM of the class.

choicelady

CL….what do they call the person who graduates last in his/her med school……..”Doctor”

MurphTheSurf3

Murph – that poor kid. Ignored, disdained, rejected by his father, and why wouldn’t he pull away?

choicelady

Ad…..since Jared and Ivanka are grifters that makes sense to me as well.

MurphTheSurf3

Murph – yup. Got the credential. But the skills? Meh…

choicelady

Harleigh – Consider how much of the money Trump raises won’t be able to be used to help him get elected because it will instead need to go to all of his tens of millions, over $100 million in legal fees when all is said and done. SO many damages will be done to Trump’s campaign including the publicity of the trials, he will be crushed in 2024. Despite the MSM BS about it being a tied race, polls today are meaningless, not after all of these trials and convictions will today’s polls matter..

AdLib2 days ago

CL I’m convince Trump’s lawyers are just there for big payday especially any who got paid up front.

twilson117

The King of Grifters attracts only Grifters.

MurphTheSurf3

TW – That makes perfect sense to gag Trump on discovery info, Smith will win on that.

AdLib2 days ago

Given the new leaks on how sexualized Trump was w the women staffers in the WH, I do wonder – just what IS the role these women attorneys are playing?\

choicelady

CL – Good point, you never know if a lawyer was the worst in his graduating class…unless they end up representing Trump.

AdLib2 days ago

CL I noticed none of the female lawyers are representing him J6 cases.

twilson117

Murph – Barron can see his peers across the country despise Trump by a wide margin, makes sense.

AdLib2 days ago

I think that those women lawyers are being used, hope they got paid in full in advance and just wait there for the bus.

Harleigh

When OR brought in a wad of attorneys from Regent University, there was ONE woman, a full attorney, whose ONLY function was shuffling and distributing paper. She never said a word, cross examined or questioned anyone. She was the factotum to the men who were, please trust me on this point, some of the dimmest bulbs I’ve ever seen. I creamed them when I was testifying – they were all p0osturing, no capacity.

choicelady

CL – the E. Jean Carroll judge made clear that Trump is properly referred to as “a rapist”. Dems and Biden really shouldn’t be shy about including that frequently in their ads and talking points. I don’t think women voters who are on the fence about Trump would like that much.

AdLib2 days ago

True stuff, Ad. He’s a rapist.

choicelady

Very few women get through this life without at least a threat of rape. Calling him out is worthwhile. Maybe not Biden per se, but every other Dem should say it out loud,’

choicelady

Does anyone think that after all the prosecutions and convictions, that the race will actually be closer than 2020 in 2024?

AdLib2 days ago

Ad – look at the interim voting – it’s ALL Dems. We don’t read much about it, but I have yet to see a single MAGA triumph. So I think if Trump IS the nominee, Biden will skunk him royally.

choicelady

yep

Harleigh

Ad that’s a good question. The issue that Dems can’t seem to get past is Biden’s age. You know the Repugs will be making that an issue, but Joe has a lot to run on the Jobs report was another good one.

twilson117

What always worries me is how prevalent the low to no information voter is…..but, even so, I think that Trump is in the process of wearing out his welcome.

MurphTheSurf3

Harleigh

TW….the age thing…..both parties are plagued by a system that encourages people to hang on until they are nearly fossilized…both sides….

MurphTheSurf3

CL – I think repeating the litany of horrific things Trump is, from rapist to con man to leading an overthrow of American democracy, to supporter and buddy of Neo-Nazis, etc., should be on rinse and repeat by Dems and their PACs along with the trial info. Trump should and I think will be pounded into the ground before Nov 2024 like a tent stake.

AdLib2 days ago

I am infuriated with the MSM. Someone called out Andrea Mitchell for calling Trump “the president” and trashed her ON AIR for it. We need to make tackling the media a major focus. We did amazing boycotts of advertiers to get Rush off the air – we can do the same for decent, fair, impartial Truthful reporting on Biden’s achievements and Harris’ leadership in helping implement policies.

twilson117

CL – Exactly, Dems are winning seats they shouldn’t even win so far! The momentum is hugely for the Dems, the redistricting the SCOTUS upheld will help as well but after Trump is prosecuted and convicted, the GOP will be broken down like an old Pinto.

AdLib2 days ago

Murph – when I see age issues, I do remind folks that the young’uns we have are Boebert, MTG, Cawthorne, and on our side the Squad all of whom are pretty dumb and infinitely worse.

choicelady

TW – I think that once the wall-to-wall coverage of the crimes of Trump are broadcast month after month, Biden’s age will evaporate as an issue.

AdLib2 days ago

It’s not just the TV media it’s the print as well, they always have a bunch of woe is me articles especially the editorial pages.

twilson117

I have long worked with PPIC, a very solid polling firm in CA. The problem is – they liked me when they called me, not realizing I had an association with the organization, and they KEPT calling meaning it wasn’t a truthful “scientific sample”. So I stopped answering their calls.

choicelady

CL….I get that point….still, I looked at the performance of Feinstein and McConnell in the last few days….there are realities related to age that are hard to duck…..and lifetime sinecures in any government are petrie dishes for corruption.

MurphTheSurf3

TW – I no longer have a Boston Globe subscription, but they seemed more solid than most. I’m SICK of the NY Times and annoyed often at the Post. I am just fed up with their phony “concerns” about trivial issues.

choicelady

Murph term limits for Senate and Congress

twilson117

CL – I have been hoping for Andrea Mitchell to get the well-deserved hook for years, I think she’s really lost it, she hardly makes any sense anymore. She was awful in her prime, horrible now as she hobbles through broadcasts. I never tune in when she’s on aside from the Breaking News coverage when she’s part of the team, I just ignore her useless babble then.

AdLib2 days ago

Feinstein would have resigned if the GOP had not made a move to block any replacement.

choicelady

TW…that, I think would be wise…and of course for SCOTUS

MurphTheSurf3

CL I let my Globe subscription go a long time ago can only afford so much.

twilson117

Murph especially for the SC.

twilson117

TW – seriously!

choicelady

CL – Yes, youth is not an antidote for stupidity, in fact, with some like MTG, etc., it seems like an accelerant.

AdLib2 days ago

CL…how could the GOP block an appointment by the governor?

MurphTheSurf3

I hate term limits but for SCOTUS I’m more than willing to consider 20-25 years.

choicelady

CL I can be flexible on the SC 25 years is reasonable

twilson117

Murph – it’s not her replacement in the SENATE but on the Judiciary Committee. Without her they are 50-50, and they can block anyone else. That’s permanent stalemate on court approvals.

choicelady

Murph – Agreed, I do think there should be an age limit or term limit in Congress that isn’t too conservative but would prevent a 90 year old Feinstein or McConnell from failing to do their critical jobs due to their egotistical grip on having power.

AdLib2 days ago

CL…ah….did not know that….a very good point.

MurphTheSurf3

Dianne may be in her dotage, but she still can vote. So BAM – let her vote.

choicelady

CL I see your point now…..another one of those examples of how badly structured governance is in the Congress.

MurphTheSurf3

Ad – I totally oppose age limits and term limits in Congress. VOTING is the way to stop whom we don’t like. But if Teddy Kennedy was still alive, I’d want to KEEP him.

choicelady

CL…but our electorate is generally so woefully unprepared to vote well.

MurphTheSurf3

CL – That is the only answer right now, as much as I wish we could replace Feinstein (whose daughter has Power of Attorney over her! A senator?), Repubs wouldn’t let Dems replace her on the Judiciary Committee so they could block judges. So we’re stuck with a woman who should be in a nursing home (she has a nurse and aides carrying her through her day).

AdLib2 days ago

Murph – there was a time I would have agreed, but I think things are changing. People got a major wake up in 2016 on that coasting in a democracy doesn’t work.

choicelady

As far as the SC goes, doesn’t that selection process require a complete overall? I will admit I don’t know or have a recommendation, but something has to be done.

twilson117

Ad – I seriously don’t care about Feinstein after all the shit the GOP pulled. She is voting, she’s getting people approved, it’s the GOP’s fault. End of story.

choicelady

CL….I do not see what you are seeing. Ignorance is not bliss. It is a blight. But there is little awareness of that.

MurphTheSurf3

CL – The problem of not having any limits is the power of incumbency. Feinstein should never have been re-elected but as an incumbent, she had the national support of the DNC and money to ward off any challenger. So mentally handicapped elderly who have no business leaving tens of millions of people unrepresented as they should be, can crush opposition using their incumbency. Feinstein, McConnell, etc. are cautionary tales, not successes of the system.

AdLib2 days ago

It is very common for Senate staff to give ANY legislator a heads up on what they’re saying and doing. Plaskett was given a poke by her Legislative Staffer last week for misstating something. It’s not always age – it’s pressure. The staffer’s job is to keep the Member on track.

choicelady

CL – But Feinstein is barely functioning, if she has a serious collapse any day now, that will seriously harm Californians, Dems and the country. Someone in such fragile condition should not endanger the state and the country.

AdLib2 days ago

Hey – let’s be fair about Feinstein last time – she was opposed by a total jerk. She was in pretty good shape then, and compared to him (I know him and can’t remember his name), she was head and shoulders more intelligent and capable. Her problems now are the result of a horrid case of shingles that is flattening her. But as long as she can vote, I do not care.

choicelady

Breaking news…the Special Counsel just asked the Courts for a Protective Order in response to Trumps Post that “If you come after me…I will come after you.”

MurphTheSurf3

WOW!!!!!

choicelady

CL I wasn’t in favor if term limits for the House and Senate but have changed my mind over time.

twilson117

Murph yes I’m listening to it in the background on MSNBC

twilson117

Velshi Is leading a good discussion on MSNBC…..

MurphTheSurf3

CL – Feinstein has dementia. She is quoted as not even knowing what city she is in or that she had been in CA with the alleged shingles issue. I saw video of her being called on to vote and instead she launched into a confused speech. She doesn’t know what she’s doing, that is not right. But we have no chaice now except for her to essentially be a puppet and have her strings pulled by aides to have her vote on judges.

AdLib2 days ago

Tw – I have seen term limits in CA for my entire tenure. They are hideously destructive and encourage more Cawthornes and fewer Ted Kennedys. Why throw out toe good guys? We need MASSIVE education on voting responsibilities not term limits.

choicelady

Ad – This is a result of the shingles. I do NOT care. As long as she can push that button and get judges approved, she can mummify in place. After the hell the GOP have put us through – I DO NOT CARE.

choicelady

CL – You’re right, Feinstein only had a jerk running against her but that’s because she had the power of incumbency and despite there being plenty of good candidates, none were foolish enough to run against her as an incumbent. That is actually an argument against there being limits on incumbents.

AdLib2 days ago

Murph – Did you hear what the protective order would do? Shut him up? Imprison him?

AdLib2 days ago

She will not be replaced on Judiciary due to GOP power, and as long as that is true, she cannot be replaced. Not a single judge will get approved if she leaves. I’m fine with the presence of the ONE PERSON they can’t block.

choicelady

CL I will admit there are issues with the concept and term limits may not be the best solution, but if you have someone who is clearly showing they are mentally incapable of doing the job are not doing more harm than good?

twilson117

No – that’s NOT the power of incumbency but the fact that no one decent challenged her by De Leon (I remembered) who went on to be the asshat on the LA Board of Supes who talked smack about Black people.

choicelady

No CL, I read a couple of articles that aides have been dealing with Feinstein’s dementia for years now. This is not a new thing that shingles caused, that was propaganda from Feinstein’s camp. She has had dementia for years now and her aides are having a hard time dealing with it.

AdLib2 days ago

Ad…..what it seems to be is a call from the Special Counsel for the court to spell out a specific code of conduct for Trump to govern all of his behavior as related to the trial…far reaching.

MurphTheSurf3

TW and Ad – if you have someone who is impaired – a very different issue from term limits and age – then find a way to cope with that. But when the GOP can block a replacement, you need to do what you can.

choicelady

Murph – that is stunning. Get the popcorn – this is going to be interesting!

choicelady

CL – We’ll have to agree to disagree that a 98% re-election rate for incumbents in Congress, including those with age-related mental issues is not good for a democracy.

AdLib2 days ago

It looks to me as if the Special Counsel was poised to act…expecting that Trump would not be able to exercise self control.

MurphTheSurf3

Ad – WHO CARES about Feinstein? We should be asking how the hell the GOP can block her replacement! She came back at the request of the Senate Dems because of that. She otherwise could have, would have, been replaced.

choicelady

Murph – Thanks for the update! I have a feeling Jack Smith was prepared to submit this to the court, knowing that Trump would cross the line very quickly. I bet it was drafted a while ago, Smith is brilliant!

AdLib2 days ago

BTW – I dealt with her directly into this last term, and I never found her to be irrational or demented. I question that evaluation.

choicelady

NOW I think she’s clearly not OK – and I do not care. Just don’t. GOP did this, she is the solution to their perfidy.

choicelady

CL – In 2022, the re-election rate in The Senate was 100%. Does that sound like democracy and no incumbent advantage?

AdLib2 days ago

Interesting discussion…..Ad v. Choice…….many valid points….here in Mo we do not have the issue….virtually all of our reps are impaired no matter what the age

MurphTheSurf3

https://www.opensecrets.org/elections-overview/reelection-rates

AdLib2 days ago

CL I recognize I’m not going to convince you term limits like I said, I was where you are for years. But, for the lack of more reasonable solution I’ve accept the fact I think we need them. As to what is happening with Senator Feinstein keeping her in office just for her vote is that really right considering the public is seeing her not functioning up to the level she was years ago. How is that showing respect for her and all she has done for the country?

twilson117

Ad – yes. If people like their Senators, that’s reasonable.

choicelady

Murph – You said the same thing, Smith was prepared for this. He is a smart tactician to have it prepared but any reasonable person could’ve predicted this behavior from Trump, he has a 100% track record of it.

AdLib2 days ago

Let’s address the issue on a case by case basis. I don’t want to lose the knowledge, seniority, and competence of Whitehouse, Brown, and many others. If someone is impaired, have a process for removal and prevent blocking committee assignments.

choicelady

CL – Only Russia seems to have such overwhelming re-election percentages for their elected officials.

AdLib2 days ago

Ad – everyone including L. O’Donnell yesterday predicted this from Trump. Ms. Ifill said it today. This was going to happen – Trump CANNOT keep his mouth shut.

choicelady

Ad – that’s not a persuasive argument.

choicelady

I think it is time for me to call it a night….still a great discussion between two of our giants….I sat back and learned.

MurphTheSurf3

CL – A 100% re-election rate doesn’t help your argument that incumbents have an unfair advantage over challengers. Nor do all the impaired seniors in The Senate.

AdLib2 days ago

Murph take care.

twilson117

Take good care one and all…..

MurphTheSurf3

CL and I are the best of friends which is why we have no reservation about passionately disagreeing with each other!

AdLib2 days ago

We have term limits in CA. We have a mediocre legislature. I worked with some of the Old Guard who were masterful, totally democratic, open to citizens. The term limited folks are there for themselves and do NOT have the same commitment to us, the citizens that the John Burtons and other had. I’ve seen the difference. Term limits produce mediocrity. They improve NOTHING.
