Yesterday, the man who keeps using his existence as evidence that evolution is a hoax, Mike Huckabee, delivered what he thought would be a real “gotcha” attack on Democrats and a big step towards courting women to join the GOP.
I’ll let the Huckster share this in his own words:
HUCKABEE: “If the Democrats want to insult women by making them believe that they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of the government, then so be it. Let us take this discussion all across America because women are far more than the Democrats have played them to be. And women across America need to stand up and say ‘Enough of that nonsense.'”
Huckabee has been repeatedly stroking this small, limp point of his without coming to any climax previously which may explain why he whipped it out again in front of Republicans at the RNC’s Winter Meeting since they suffer from the same shortcomings.
Yes, we know that Huckabee’s lame intent was, to pull a Karl Rove and accuse the enemy of what you’re guilty of. Democrats hate women because they help them and Republicans don’t have a war on women because as they assault them, they insist they respect them. Right, we get it, we’ve seen the Rove/Republican twist of reality many times before, nothing new.
But let’s deconstruct what The Huckster actually said.
According to The Huckster, women who take birth control are animal-like and can’t control their libido. They have become that way because Democrats help them save money on their prescriptions for birth control. The obvious conclusion is that if women were forced to pay more money for their birth control, they would suddenly become what The Huckster sees as moral, take vows of chastity and line up at nunneries all around the country. So, The Huckster essentially describes women as being cheap, greedy, weak-minded children who are easily manipulated into turning themselves into sex-crazed sleazes because they can now save around $50 a month on insurance-covered birth control.
Ann Romney joined The Huckster on stage and said on behalf of the GOP, “I love you, women! Now that you know I love you because I couldn’t say it if it wasn’t true, you’re all cheap sleazy whores! Vote Republican!!!”
It really is absurd, The GOP refuting of their War on Women and trying to attract women into their “big tent” (Republican men like making their own tents) by calling 98% of them sluts. Weak-minded sluts that is because they’ve let Democrats convince them to be sluts…by saving them money on their contraception.
The Huckster appears to have lost grey matter along with all that weight. The ACA has only implemented insurance paying for contraception since August 1, 2011. So how does The Huckster rationalize that around 98% of the women in the U.S. have taken birth control prior to “Uncle Sugar” making it a prescription covered by insurance?
Whoops! What’s that damn logic stuff doin’ on my plate? This Hometown Buffet sucks!
Of course such demagoguery couldn’t hold up to close examination, it’s just more of the same Right Wing ravings used cynically by Republican talking heads and politicians to boost their celebrity and audience/earnings/contributions since such crap is gobbled up like red meat by the hateful core of the GOP.
When one understands the Karl Rove/Lee Atwater tactic of accusing others of what you’re most guilty of, one can see that Republicans are also trying to project on those they see as adversaries, such as women, the very traits of their base. Who is less reasoning and more weak-minded than “dittohead” Tea Partiers? Who sells themselves out in ways that contradict their best interests because a political party dictates to them how they should feel and think and what values they should have?
When The Huckster tries to portray women as mindless, immoral followers, consider the traits of the audience that is most receptive to his words. It is ironic indeed.
Now, since The Huckster has insulted our U.S. government as “Uncle Sugar” for financially helping out 98% of women in America AND treating them with equality on their prescriptions and health needs (men have always avoided a stiff bill for Viagra because it’s always been covered by insurance), I have a little serenade for The Huckster but instead of referring to him as “Uncle Sugar”, this seems a bit more appropriate…
I heart Huckabees, my arse!
I 👿 Huckabee!
Just another battle in the republican war on women
Uncle Sugar sounds like a pedophile’s porn name.
It does have a creepy quality to it, surprised that The Kochs didn’t use that phrase for their creepy Uncle Sam character in those anti-Obamacare ads.
AdLib, I am a non-violent, peace-loving, understanding, tolerant 75 year old WOMAN. But, let me say this…I would like to smack this idiot up side the head. Sorry…Can only take so much BS. :[
Thanks for posting this. You hit the mark again, friend.
Cheers goleafsgo! It kind of reminds me of an M.C. Esher-like only more nasty. Trying to attack Democrats as being condescending to women by supporting their prescription expenses for Birth Control…while being condescending to women in describing their use of Birth Control as making them dumb animals that are slaves to their libido.
The dividend of course is that a vast majority of Americans are offended by Huckabee and his brand of hyper-evangelical Republicanism and he looks as bewildered at being attacked from all sides as Romney looked at losing the election.
Republicans on the whole just live in their Fox/Tea Party bubble and when they stick their heads out of it, get their faces slapped.
Which is a good thing!
Hi, AdLib. Good analysis of those “hyper-evangelical” Republicans. They truly do not have a clue most of the time. Although I must say that Huckabee does know better as evidenced by his “flip-flop” on mandatory contraception coverage. His evil is that he makes good use of political expediency for his own selfish gain. Where I find it sad is when people like him influence their followers implying only they are the “Christian party.” I read an item Murph wrote that told of why a person who was on Food Stamps, both parents working, and barely making ends meet for their family, with no health care, were Republican supporters. They answered him that they did so because it was the “Christian Party.”
Just a bit off topic but, Murph helped them sign up for the ACA…and maybe this fact will change their political affiliation. Well done Murph. This is what will bring more people over to the Democrats. Actions speak louder than words.
The GOP is breaking out the stupid a little early doncha think? And there haven’t even been any debates yet.
jj – Don’t think it’s possible for Republicans to break out the stupid early, it blooms perennially in their garden.
Good post as usual AdLib.I heard that 6 million evangelicals stayed home last election, and the R’s are trying to get them interested again.Personally,I don’t see how what Mike Huckabee is saying is going to help that cause much.I bet there are even Evangelical women who are insulted by it.PROCEED REPUBLICAN “BRAIN TRUST”Now there is an oxymoron if I have ever heard one.
Beatlex, I’m sure they’d like to re-energize the evangelicals but that ship has sailed. This seems to be a publicity stunt gone awry by Huckabee.
These professional pundits are always trying to grab the spotlight, especially on the Right, always trying to lob a unique hand grenade. The Huckster has been prepping this line for a while, he’s said this previously. No doubt he was anticipating pats on the back and being carried like a returning hero on the shoulders of the GOP…aw…poor Huckster!
Dante’s noted:”Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’entrate.”
Also on the same Divine Comedy, Dante condemned the envious an eternity on their circle of fire, carrying a cloak of lead and keeping their eyes open permanently, forever doomed to see the success and accomplishments of others and carry the weight of their own envy…
UP YOURS, HUCKSTER.
Ex, Dante also described the corrupt politicians, businessmen, LIARS, and other sinners in the inferno. I bet most of them are GOPers.
Spot on….
Hey exfanofariana!
I would like to see The Huckster’s face when he slowly realizes that he’s arrived in just the opposite place than he thought he was going to in the afterlife.
LOL I don’t believe in either but I sure wish he and his ilk, all the putrid tehadists and talibangelists could fell into a pit of fire right now! CARPE DIEM…
As usual the GOP are arse backwards. It’s the women who control their own lives by taking contraceptives, not the government forcing them to do it. Apart from insulting all women, Huckabee joins the long list of Republicans who spout nonsense expecting some women, maybe only ardent, hardcore Republican women, to accept this drivel without actually thinking about what it means. So much for appealing to women voters. I know for a fact that they are not as stupid as he obviously believes them to be. He just insulted the majority of women who rely on birth control for anything from correcting a hormone imbalance to not wanting to get pregnant for many personal reasons that have nothing to do with the government or to this ugly creep. Way to go Huck, keep on burying your party.
An excellent take on this sad excuse for a man, AdLib. Another loser.
Talk about the GOP not having a finger on the pulse of what the majority of Americans want in 2014, it’s getting harder to believe that they could find their own or even have a pulse.
Once again they try to inject their so-called religious beliefs on the rest of the population even though there are clear signs that the majority don’t want that. It’s either blatant stupidity or insanity.
Kalima, excellent point! It’s called “Birth Control”, it is explicitly named for giving women control over pregnancy. And the ass-backwards Huckster and GOP Friends think they can sell women on the idea that giving up birth CONTROL actually gives them more control over their lives? It is definitively insane.
And so true, birth control pills are not just used for that, they have multiple medical uses. Is Huckster also for taking away heart, liver and kidney medication from women to give them “more control”?
As the years move forwards, the GOP takes another step backwards towards the stone age they so romantically dream of returning to. Sorry Neanderthals, evolution is working for the rest of us and only moves in one direction, forward.
Hey Ad, the limitless stupidity of so many on the right is simply astounding. I say, keep flapping your gums Huck. Does he truly think he will attract more women to the GOP by his vile comments concerning them?
He must be talking about just Democrat women. We all know how loose they can be! 😉 (bless their hearts)
The boneheaded argument against abortion AND contraception is just beyond stupidity. More contraception means fewer abortions. Why does this logic continue to escape them?
They think sex for recreation is wrong and see engaging in sex only as a means of procreation. They want women to be brood mares for the state. They want women to be subservient to men and have them chained to the house as cooks, cleaning ladies, and child rearing slaves.
No sex for pleasure must be a huge reason so many republican men are soooo uptight. They aren’t getting any. Of course they do have sex for pleasure only, they just don’t want anybody to know about it. This could also explain why many of them are in the closet.
KT, women are much smarter than Huck gives them credit for. It seems that he wants them “in the kitchen, bare foot and pregnant”. His ideas are moldy old foolishness.
Women see what an ignorant guy he is and his party is just as bad.
They sure are Nirek. Strong independent women scare RWers like the Huckster. He says that dems say women can’t control their libidos. I have never seen or heard any Democrat say such a stupid thing. That is what people like Rush Limbaugh think and say. He called Sandra Fluke a slut because she wanted contraception covered by her insurance.
Once again, this is yet another example of the lying hypocrites that make up much of the Republican party.
Yes KT, spot on. “They think sex for recreation is wrong and see engaging in sex only as a means of procreation.” Except of course for their mistresses and boyfriends. Didn’t some craw thumping, hypocritical, evangelical, married, anti abortion GOP guy try and force an abortion on his mistress? The utter gall of such people. And the problem is, some poor fools still vote for them! Sigh!
PPO, and then there was Ted Haggart, the head of the largest mega church in America who was found to be having sex with a male prostitute AND sniffing meth off of each other’s bodies. Do you know what his congregation said about him? Well, he’s not gay, he just went astray, led by the devil.
I’m not saying being gay is wrong, because I don’t believe it is, but these people are always gay bashing people, yet don’t apply the same causes for it than they do their “pastor.” It makes me sick to my stomach.
KT, I’m loving the backlash against The Huckster and the GOP after his well rehearsed and ongoing campaign against women as “loose”.
BTW, what about all the men who have sex with those immoral women, why aren’t the men controlled by their libido too? Oh, that’s right, they’re not women! That’s why!
Many on the right simply fear strong willed women. Of course most wives of the RWers are subservient to their husbands, as the bible tells them so.
Why no condemnation of Viagra or vasectomies? Stupid mofos. Oh that’s right, it’s because god loves procreation!
KT – Racism and chauvinism are very related, the need of white males to feel superior and entitled.
In the “ideal” RW world, teen pregnancy would be rampant, there would be open and intense hostility between minorities and white Repubs, China and other nations would dominate the U.S. in science and technology and there would be witch trials.
How can they think they will ever win a national election again until their mindsets change?
It just amazes me Ad. I think, somehow, it’s all tied to money and deep seated, antiquated views on how life should be lived. The big money interests use the religious right to help them hold on to power, but it’s not working. They just can’t see that they are on the wrong side of history and the world is passing them by.
Thank goodness for our young people. They see the RW religious fanatics for what they are, even if they are young republicans. That’s where my hope lies, with the youth of our nation.
There you go again, Ad. Making sense and using facts to dispute the GOPers.
Excellent post , once again.
Thanks Nirek!
