Last Thursday, The GOP released their “Pledge” to America and the only positive thing one can say about them after seeing what’s in it is that Republicans finally have shown they believe in recycling.

Their “pledge” was very general, promising cotton candy clouds and chocolate rain drops (via the same Bush policies), if you just give them the keys to the castle.

The truth is, the Tea Party is now calling the shots on policy in the GOP and this generic assemblage of the same old rhetoric was constructed as a facade to hide all of the Tea Party extreme agendas and positions from the public.

So, what if a “Pledge” was circulated that instead represented the actual pledges and quotes from Tea Party candidates and those associated with it (including Palin, Beck and GOP Congresspeople)? A document that honestly laid out the views of The New GOP could energize those unenthusiastic Dems and Indies out there, providing an urgent reason for them to vote and keep the Republican Tea Party out of power.

Here’s the plan:

Planeteers are invited to help us collect the most provocative quotes and positions by the Republican Tea Party, both in print and on video, and we will create two projects here at The Planet, a 2010 Republican Tea Party Pledge To Americans document and a video version to be posted on YouTube. Once created, we invite members to help us share links to both around the internet, arming fellow Progressives with these powerful tools to help motivate Dems to get out and vote in November.

So, when you have a moment here or there, it would help this effort if you could Google a Tea Party candidate (Sharron Angle, Christine O’Donnell, Rand Paul, Joe Miller, etc.) or a Republican aligned with the Tea Party (Michele Bachman, Newt Gingrich, Jim DeMint, Rush, Beck, Palin, etc.) and find statements that might shake up disillusioned Progressives. They can be posted in a comment below and please make sure to include a link to the source. As for videos, you can provide links or embed them so we can download them then edit them to create a montage of Tea Party candidate declarations.

We’ve got five weeks until the election and there seems to be some softening of support for GOP candidates, the tide may be turning a little.

This is a chance to take action and hopefully make a difference in this election, I hope you’ll join us in this project!

    The Apology:

It always looked to me as though Tony Hayward, far as he is from sainthood, looked completely disgusted with Barton for such utterly craven, base, toadying behavior. It was literally sickening for him (and the rest of us) to watch.

Now, of course, BP is spending a squadzillion dollars on TV ads bragging about how upright they are in having set aside $20 billion to “make things right.” As if it were their idea. One man’s “shakedown” is apparently another’s PR dream come true, as far as image rehab is concerned.

Another brilliant move that Obama got no credit for: pre-emptively acting to make sure that the people of the gulf coast didn’t get “Exxon Valdezed” out of their settlement money.

Dem Whip: GOP majority will issue birther subpoenas

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) warned Republicans will investigate President Obama’s birthplace if they take over Congress.

Clyburn, the third-ranking Democrat in the House, said Republicans will grind the government to a halt by issuing subpoenas against the Obama administration over a number of issues if they take power. He predicted that “gridlock” in Congress would “define” Obama’s first term if Republicans win the House, but expressed confidence his party would prevail.

We could do a fairly lengthy vid on just O’Donnell, Palin and Angle. MacBeth’s three witches?

A Tea-Partier I know said, over the weekend, that he thinks Obama is hoping that the Repubs will win the fall elections “so he’ll have someone to blame his failures on.” (I was strongly considering saying: “Well. gosh! You’d better vote Democratic, then, and nip that nefarious plan right in the bud!!”) What I did say was: “So if he wants Democrats to win, he’s wrong, and if he wants Republicans to win, he’s also wrong??”

Nevada Senate candidate Sharron Angle is once again taking heat for comments she made last year that people have to unfairly pay for mandates covered under the umbrella of autism.

At a Tea Party rally in August, 2009, Angle derided a bipartisan bill in Nevada that would require some health insurance policies to provide coverage for screening and treatment of autism.

“Take off the mandates for coverage in the state of Nevada and all over the United States,” Angle said. “You know what I’m talking about. You’re paying for things that you don’t even need.”

“They just passed the latest one. Everything they want to throw at us is covered under ‘autism’ so that’s a mandate that you have to pay for,” she continued. “How about maternity leave? I’m not going to have any more babies but I sure get to pay for it on my insurance. Those are the kinds of things we want to get rid of.”

    On the Tea Party
Lagging Sales ??? Ha! they are blaming President Obama!
What happened to all their personal responsibility stuff?

So much for the party. Organizers of the planned Tea Party Nation Convention, which had already been postponed once, announced this week that the gathering was being scrapped entirely.

The reason? Slow ticket sales, according to Judson Phillips, one of the ring leaders of the event, which was to be held in Las Vegas next month. The cost of the convention, which ran as high as $399, was just too much for many of the movement

The DNC put out this pretty impressive compilation:

    • AdLib says:

Thanks for this, it’s a good collection. Some clips we’d want to include, others are character issues which I don’t think would be as effective, many voters think Dems and Repubs are equally corrupt and dishonest.

The style of this video is too formal and passive, IMHO. What I’m envisioning is a more energetic montage of promises, pledges and proposals by this wack group, backed with music, that hammers home the America these people are committed to bringing about.

Faced with a torrent of destructive vows, it would seem to be a bit harder for Dems to stay home on election day and allow their lives to be so harmfully affected by such extremists.
