From Think Progress:

Ugandan official on gays: ‘Killing them might not be helpful’; life imprisonment would be better.

Reuters reports that Uganda may “soften” its Anti-Homosexuality Bill, a draconian attempt to severely punish gay men and women by making some homosexual acts punishable by life imprisonment or even the death penalty. However, Ethics and Integrity Minister Nsaba Buturo is now saying that officials may drop the death penaltyin order to impose a “life sentence” on gay men and women, during which time they could work to cure them of their sexual preferences:

Ethics and Integrity Minister Nsaba Buturo told Reuters that the revised law would now probably limit the maximum penalty for offenders to life in prison rather than execution.

“There have been a lot of discussions in government…regarding the proposed law, but we now think a life sentence could be better because it gives room for offenders to be rehabilitated,” he said in an interview.

“Killing them might not be helpful.”

In recent weeks, Uganda has been facing intense criticism from Western governmentofficials and religious leaders. Most recently, five GOP lawmakers wrote a letter to Ugandan President Yoweri Musaveni urging him to block the legislation, although they added that they still believe “marriage is an institution between one man and one woman.”

According to AlterNet, a man that was mentored by Rick Warren is largely responsible for the original Ugandan legislation. In that legislation the death penalty would be the sentence for the “crime” of being homosexual.

There’s a reason Iran has more sex change operations than any country but Thailand, too.

I saw a program about that on Linktv. In Iran , the clerics believe that it is not against the Koran to get a sex change. The Ayatollahs advocate it. The show was called the “Birthday Party”. A family was having a birthday party for thier gay son who was to have a sex change. They interviewed the father. He seemed like any other father trying to understand why his son was gay. But he must have been supportive because his son was living in his house and the father was throwing him a birthday party. He even invited his gay son’s partner. I keep hearing that iranians dont tolerate homosexuality in their country and that they execute gays. But I can’t reconcile that with what I saw on Linktv. Also. I think the government pays for the sex reassignment surgeries.

I’m just curious as to why the “Family” would care about homosexuals in Uganda. I heard Jeff Sharlet, the author of the book “The Family ” on NPR and I was riveted. Those people, governor Sanford, coburn , ensign and the rest are sick, twisted and evil.

Excellent question.

I was wondering the same thing. We can be certain it’s for no good reason.

Indeed, I didn’t really realize how big it was until I heard him on NPR. Rachel only skims the surface on her show.

Don’t feel to bad about the Catholic Church.

All churches suck equally.

Why does anyone need to join a group to say thanks to God?

What part of a church is essential to spirituality?

Because we were baptized as infants, and raised in the church.
You really need to talk to us more, because guilt is part of it all, and oy vey.
We are taught that if we do not believe, and follow all the rules, that we are destined to hell.
Nice.
And isn’t that a nice religion that tells us that at age 7, if we do not follow the rules, that we are going to hell, because 7 years old is the age of reason.

Yeah, that all started to sound like crap to me at about 12 years of age.

By 16 I was a deist. I’m over it now.

I like the fellowship, nothing whatsoever to do with god, especially with us.

The article at Alternet is pretty good, but they do not have the full story. All of these religious leaders are linked. I keep finding references to them in my research of 7 Mountains and my reeading of The Family. They are keeping a low profile in order to fool the opposition, us. I think their real agenda is to demolish the left completely. After all we are the demons of enlightenment. Then they hide behind the supposed “christian persecution” they perceive is going on. It may be, but because they are charletans, false prophets, evil incarnate.

The Family’s hands are all over this. The”cure them” statement is pure proof since that is what they aand their offshoots claim they can do. Vigilance is important. You cannot let your guard down with these people for a second. I picked up a book written about Palin at the library the other day, I would never buy one, to see what the writer had to say. Lo and behold, when I looked at the publishing house and the writer, they are connected to Charles Colson. The Watergate convict who only served 7 months of a three year sentence because of intervention by Doug Coe, the family once again.

The Family, your wonderful Family did this. Object.

I hope that the whole world shuns them if this passes. Of course Palin will do a book signing over there. Did you happen to sneak through at HP last night? 🙂
