Last Thursday, The GOP released their “Pledge” to America and the only positive thing one can say about them after seeing what’s in it is that Republicans finally have shown they believe in recycling.

Their “pledge” was very general, promising cotton candy clouds and chocolate rain drops (via the same Bush policies), if you just give them the keys to the castle.

The truth is, the Tea Party is now calling the shots on policy in the GOP and this generic assemblage of the same old rhetoric was constructed as a facade to hide all of the Tea Party extreme agendas and positions from the public.

So, what if a “Pledge” was circulated that instead represented the actual pledges and quotes from Tea Party candidates and those associated with it (including Palin, Beck and GOP Congresspeople)? A document that honestly laid out the views of The New GOP could energize those unenthusiastic Dems and Indies out there, providing an urgent reason for them to vote and keep the Republican Tea Party out of power.

Here’s the plan:

Planeteers are invited to help us collect the most provocative quotes and positions by the Republican Tea Party, both in print and on video, and we will create two projects here at The Planet, a 2010 Republican Tea Party Pledge To Americans document and a video version to be posted on YouTube. Once created, we invite members to help us share links to both around the internet, arming fellow Progressives with these powerful tools to help motivate Dems to get out and vote in November.

So, when you have a moment here or there, it would help this effort if you could Google a Tea Party candidate (Sharron Angle, Christine O’Donnell, Rand Paul, Joe Miller, etc.) or a Republican aligned with the Tea Party (Michele Bachman, Newt Gingrich, Jim DeMint, Rush, Beck, Palin, etc.) and find statements that might shake up disillusioned Progressives. They can be posted in a comment below and please make sure to include a link to the source. As for videos, you can provide links or embed them so we can download them then edit them to create a montage of Tea Party candidate declarations.

We’ve got five weeks until the election and there seems to be some softening of support for GOP candidates, the tide may be turning a little.

This is a chance to take action and hopefully make a difference in this election, I hope you’ll join us in this project!

So…now it’s not only a crime to be a Muslim; it’s a crime to be an Arab-American. Do these people have even a clue that there are quite a number of Christian Arabs?

On second thought, I don’t think I want to know that answer to that one.

Khirad

Yeah, I’m pretty sure the Klan vote they were going for don’t know two-thirds of Arab Americans are Christian – like, Darrell Issa, Tony Shalhoub, John Abizaid, Casey Kasem, (isn’t Steve Jobs like Buddhist or something?), and the congressman they’re going for himself, etc.

It was pretty obvious they were going after McCain’s “Arab Lady” and “Obama’s a Secret Muslim” people.

This made news yesterday, as like so many other ads out, they can’t trace who is behind it.

Just from Ohio, Khirad: Jamie Farr (“Klinger” on M.A.S.H.) and Danny Thomas (yes, he of that “nefarious” St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital fame) — Christian Arabs.

I remember bringing up Jamie Farr in a DADT thread, or rather others bringing him up and nobody getting my Arab reference.

I only found that out about Basha’s Dem runs and their century long history in Arizona the other day.

How exactly would sharia law be enacted in the U.S.

And now this: And if China continues to resist joining the world in tough sanctions against Iran

The tape of Christine and more “witchcraft” released by Bill Maher last night.

Background story here:
http://thinkprogress.org/2010/10/01/maher-odonnell-dabblings/

Can anyone really imagine her in the Senate? And when is anyone one to ask her about her policies ?

Khirad
Member

I stood up and clapped the last ten minutes of that show – minus the pimp thing.

As to the clip, I said it with the witchcraft thing, I’ll say it here – she is fucking lying. Really Christine? You decided to skip legitimate Hinduism and go straight to a misogynistic cult like the Hare Krishnas? Yeah, I so believe you. Then again, she really is that gullible and intellectually lazy… I’m surprised she didn’t become a Jihad Jane. Is she lying or was she a lost soul searching for the most absolute, charismatic form of religion as a crutch? Maybe a little of both.

But, in this I sense another slur. Remember, these born-again fundies view all other religions as cults and will do anything to discredit them. I don’t talk about this to give her more attention, but because this is a rampant undercurrent to Right Wing, Fundamentalist Christianity. I could care less about her comical dabbling ways. But I feel something more destructive in what she spewed – an intolerant worldview wherein only her narrow definition of conservative Christianity can redeem a person, and, the nation, and the world… and the implications of that. We see it in Uganda, for example.

And now she’s “dabbling in” a Senate run!
Seriously, what she’s saying is typical arrogance of the True Believers. She “dabbles in” what she considers lesser religions. She couldn’t take them seriously because they didn’t offer her what Christianity does, in other words. Imagine how offended she, or any fundie, would be, if someone told them, “Before I became a Buddhist I dabbled in Christianity. I just couldn’t get into it. Thank God I found the true religion, Buddhism”. This would only bring an evangelical fundie to a state of pique. They would counter that the person, by merely dabbling, had never understood the important points of Christianity, and therefore, one does not, CAN not, actually, “dabble” in it. And yet there she was, on national television, dissing all other religions as things that can merely be dabbled in.
Yuck!

Khirad

I’m glad you get this too, WTS. It’s the height of arrogance. And not only that, but as I’ve pointed out, she picked the most outrageous examples to represent those religions. I was not out of left field in first picking up on this tendency with her witchcraft comment, after all.

But, actually, her dabbling in this Senate run does fit the MO. She is also woefully misinformed as to what it entails, as well. I still wonder if her dabbling into the Senate is the only true dabbling she’s done, though. I’m still not convinced she wasn’t just making it up trying to be funny – and thus spreading the gospel of her fundie superiority.

whatsthatsound

I agree with you. I strongly suspect she makes all this stuff up. Or, rather, stretches it to the point of meaninglessness. Evangelical types HAVE to make you think that they’ve been around the block a few times, that they’ve seen it all and tried it all, so that their conversion will seem more authentic. Forget the disrespect that displays toward the alternative lifestyles and philosophies they have supposedly “seen through”; they just want to make it sound like they’ve left no stone unturned on their path to truth.

Khirad

Precisely, WTS. It’s Evangicred, and its street value is so golden it can be transmutated into a lucrative series of guest spots.

It’s typical, and should be seen in conjunction with her sexing and boozing days. ‘She saw the darkest depths, and was saved.’ That recurrent theme in itself is like its own insatiable pity porn to the Right Wing Evangelical movement.

I’m more of the mind that she’s pulling a James Frey, like you, and exaggerating big pockets of her biography. We already know indisputably how she likes to fluff her education.

whatsthatsound

It’s frustrating how many people fall for it.
I don’t think she has any chance of winning the election, but the larger point is how manipulative she’s being. If she wins, she wins, and if she loses, she STILL wins. Because her profile is so high now.

But any rational person should be able to quickly discern that she’s not someone to take seriously. She says she always tells the truth, and she has clearly NOT told the truth numerous times.
She talked about mice with “fully functioning human brains”, and yet there are still people with fully functioning human brains that support her! The more I think about it, the more I can only conclude that a fully functioning brain may not be such a great thing. The mice can have ’em for all I care.

The fellow that did that map did a series of 5 maps, all tongue-in-cheek maps, about how different peoples have different views of the world. Some one is seriously using them? The one one how the French viewed Europe was great (not to the French, though.)

No, nobody is using them seriously, but I thought it’d be funny to pretend so. 🙂

There’s a black man in the White House and I’m not certain that he was born in America, or if he is an American, and his middle name is Hussein, and doesn’t that in itself make him an anti-American Arab Muslim?

I listen and watch nothing other than FOX, and believe that Barack Hussein Obama is a Socialist, and worse, a Muslim.

I am very afraid, because I can see what it is happening to my country.

I see the banks being bailed out due to TARP and see the auto companies being bailed out, and I see Wall Street giving out huge bonuses to their executives and the auto makers flying to DC in private jets.

I know that there is something very wrong, so I choose to believe that it’s all that African Muslim non-American in the White House fault.

I am really scared because I’ve seen neighbors lose their jobs and their health care, and worse, seen them lose their homes and I know from watching Glenn Beck and FOX, they lost everything because Barack Hussein Obama hates America.

Socialism is what caused the downfall of America.

I am a Tea Party Activist, and that means that I believe in the original Constitution of the United States of America, and the original ideas of the Founding Fathers.

We are a country founded on Christian beliefs, and freedom of religion, which does not mean freedom from religion.

Free markets means let freedom ring.

There is no such thing as Social Security or Medicare. as those are socialist ideals, nor is there any help for the poor, and that means no Medicaid or Food Stamps.

Personal Responsibly is my motto.

I am a Christian, but unwilling to help the poor and the sick.

Family Values is where it’s at, and a woman knowing their place, and if a woman is raped and bares a child, that is God’s will.

I’m really scared that the Democrats are going to come for my guns, and trust me, we are so prepared for that, and it’s going to be a war, and it will be a revolution, and blood will flow in the streets, but the socialist government will win in the end.

It’s doom and gloom and 9/11 was a false-flag, and we are doomed, I tell you, we are doomed.

Look at the chem-trails when jets fly overhead – they are poisoning us.

I am so scared, so that’s why I am a Tea Partier, because I do not trust my government, yet I hate Democrats so much that I will vote for candidates that want to eliminate minimum wage, eliminate Social Security, and Medicare and Medicaid and every entitlement program.

This is what I live with in my neighborhood, and trust me, there is no talking to them.
