Reality ‘Shopped

As one who has worked in Photoshop since it was released, I found your article interesting. It is very simple to create a visually compelling image without a single grain of truth in it, or to create a scene with many grains of truth surrounding one big lie. No, we can no longer believe our eyes when comes to photographic “evidence”. For that matter, even eye witness testimony can be called into question in the light of recent studies that show that we only see what we expect to see. Even the so-called double blind experiments, the holy grail of science, must wither when we examine them with the a new lens, one that includes the observer effect….so what is reality? Where exactly does it reside? Somewhere between what we hope, want, or expect to see and the events themselves, which will be interpreted uniquely by every viewer. SO, there is no objective reality.

Health Care Bill Clears Senate Test

This bill will fine people who do not have this health insurance, is my understanding. That is wrong. The health insurance lobbyists originally asked that the people without health insurance receive jail terms, but had to be satisfied with a fine. Everyone I know wants Single Payer. I cannot support this bill, which appears to be written by and for large corporations.

The 7 Mountains of Influence In Culture and Why You Should Be Concerned

Sometimes I think spiritual and religious are mutually exclusive terms, Sue.

The holy people I know aren’t spending any time in churches.

Churches are the fossilized remains of genuine spiritual experiences that someone once had. Like all institutions, they become corrupted over time.

I can look out and see that every single one of our institutions has become so hopelessly corrupted by greed, that change is no longer possible without first the total collapse of the system, which the endemic corruption is, in all likelihood, going to bring about.

Our entire American dream has devolved into a fantasy based on unsustainable oil consumption. We can’t change the world, except our own little corner of it. That part, we can strive to make as good as we can. No longer citizens, but only consumers, let us wield power by the way we spend, or don’t spend, our cash. Buy local.

A very dark and depressing day in Montana

All the country needs to do is legalize cannabis and hemp production. Thousands of new jobs will appear, and many support businesses will prosper. Hemp and pot have been maligned so thoroughly that most people don’t realize that cannabis holds the key to many of our chronic diseases. I think we should sue the government for keeping it illegal, and depriving the sick people of a medicine that helps without hurting.

The Media Whoracle

Great article! I will say one good thing for Arianna, if she hadn’t set up HP, which we all enjoyed so much in the beginning, would we all be at this site today?

The big change that occurred after she got the hedge funds to invest and the computer moderation program running, have pretty much wrecked HP for now. Maybe forever. Just doesn’t have the same feeling there.

I am glad to see that this site continues to grow and improve, and am enjoying reading the articles, thanks to all.

It’s Time To Rethink Re-Instituting the Universal Draft

I agree. I think old folks should be sent off, as they are meaner, and have less time left. Then Social Security would last longer, if we thinned out the ranks of the oldsters. In addition, the people we sent to Congress who vote for wars should be the first ones drafted.
