Actually, this entire post was just an excuse to get you to like puns, AD, and it appears to have served its purpose.

thanks Greta! I came up with this idea just posting some random thoughts on a couple posts here, but the response was very good, so I felt like I should expand it into a full blown piece . Please feel free to pass it on to anyone you think would enjoy it. I’d love for it to get a little “buzz”!

Marion, excuse me, but you bringing up glass houses (especially to c-lady, your staunchest supporter here) is like a fish in a barrel pointing to the shotgun hanging on the door, but I won’t…..
I won’t……

From Wikipedia, “Granfalloon”

A granfalloon, in the fictional religion of Bokononism (created by Kurt Vonnegut in his 1963 novel Cat’s Cradle), is defined as a “false karass.” That is, it is a group of people who outwardly choose or claim to have a shared identity or purpose, but whose mutual association is actually meaningless.

The most commonly purported granfalloons are associations and societies based on a shared but ultimately fabricated premise. As examples, Vonnegut cites: “the Communist Party, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the General Electric Company —and any nation, anytime, anywhere.” A more general and oft-cited quote defines a granfalloon as “a proud and meaningless association of human beings.” Another granfalloon example illustrated in the book were Hoosiers, of which the narrator (and Vonnegut himself) was a member.
If you wish to study a granfalloon, just remove the skin of a toy balloon. — Bokonon
“My God,” she said, “are you a hoosier?”
I admitted I was.
“I’m a Hoosier, too,” she crowed. “Nobody has to be ashamed of being a Hoosier.”
“I’m not,” I said. “I never knew anybody who was.” – Kurt Vonnegut, Cat’s Cradle

Weekend Music Thread – Got Change?

This song totally flat-out, badass rocks, and there is some stuff at the end about a new world rising from the shambles of the old, so it fits.

All The News That’s Fit to Pit

Jkk, As a Florida resident, I recommend you subscribe to the Gator Gazette. When you read a few of their articles, you start to get a sense of where they might strike next. And we all know it’s important to keep a step or two ahead of gators!

Hi Cher, great pic! I’m trying to think who he reminds me of. Either my H.S. wrestling coach or the girl I took to the prom.

Yeah, just forget about all that Murdoch stuff, completely. In “Modern Mosquito” they even have a Reader’s Forum for ways to be even MORE annoying!

Guy would sell his own mother, I tell ya.

The situation is so bad these days that I hardly ever watch human news. Here are some of the things that matter to our fellow critters.

In an article on the front page of “Dog World”, dogs are rallying to support Khadafi, Dominique Strauss-Khan, and Casey Anthony. Dogs love everybody.

The leader of the Yellowstone Grizzly Council was quoted as saying, “We won this round, but the fight for our sovereignity is far from over”.

Honeybees are still concerned about how to carry on in the aftermath of the Great Rapture that has decimated their populations. Many are turning to Scripture. The author of the phenomenal bee bestseller, “Left Bee-hive” was so shocked about not being one of the Chosen Ones that he has isolated himself, refusing all interviews with media. According to a source, “he’s so pissed off he just may go off and sting someone”.

Ferrets are fine. They continue to complain about not having enough comfy spots to sleep, but for ferrets, there are never enough comfy spots.
