In the World of the Blind, We’re Often Led Off the Cliff

Not sure if we can completely stop the Republicans, they are a determined bunch, but I do believe we can mitigate the damage they cause.

The President has so many people yelling at him, each of them with their own issue, gay rights, unions, women’s rights, health care, jobs, energy, pollution, taxes, war, etc, etc, . . .

I don’t know how he can possibly address each and every one of them to everybody’s satisfaction. I can say for sure that if I were President, I would have just said “Fuck all y’all” by now and quit but then again, it’s also why I’ll never be President.

Good point. I keep finding their support of governmental authority over pay and pensions really, really hypocritical. They couch their argument in pretty words about tax payers and states rights, but just try and tell a private sector employee how much they’re worth and the Right screams SOCIALISM!

Do they or do they not support governmental control over wages?

» Posted By squeezed On February 27, 2011 @ 3:04 pm

Wow. Stereotype much?

Let me guess, you would rather government have complete control and the final and only say in regards to education and security?

No input from teachers and cops?

Pessimism in the Age of Mass Manipulation and Plutocracy…

My vision of the American Dream is to be able to provide shelter and food for my family, a good education for my kids, to have health insurance that doesn’t shackle me to a job I hate, enough savings for a comfortable retirement and a government and a community that actually gives a shit about each other.

I’m not asking for handouts, just a fair shake and I honestly believe that’s all any of us really wants out of life.

Right now people with power and influence are using their vast resources to manipulate us, to control the narrative, to convince us that we are each other’s enemy, not them, not the one’s who control and own everything. It’s not hard either with so many private sector jobs gone overseas forever, to get an unemployed private sector employee to grow resentful towards the public sector. It’s misplaced anger and we should be joining together, but without the representation or even a strong leader, we are a motley crew of disappointed, bitter citizens.

Midnight Cowboy. . . . Hey! I’m walkin’ here!

Dustin Hoffman is just the best but I also love this movie because it makes me smile to think of Jon Voight as a male prostitute.

I have to switch computers to upload my avatar but I’ll get on that soon.

I feel like I’ve found family.

Thanks. Huffpo has become barely tolerable. I have RiceStarz to thank for pointing the way over here. As soon as I get my kiddies tucked in for the night, I’m going to switch computers and try to download my avatar.

Looking forward to chatting with you guys!

Time Out for O/T – Vol. 15

People like the Koch brothers do not go to prison in this country. They own the prisons.

» Posted By squeezed On February 27, 2011 @ 5:36 pm

Anonymous has set their sites on the Koch brothers. Yay!

Press Release: #OpWisconsin

Dear Citizens of the United States of America,

It has come to our attention that the brothers, David and Charles Koch–the billionaire owners of Koch Industries–have long attempted to usurp American Democracy. Their actions to undermine the legitimate political process in Wisconsin are the final straw. Starting today we fight back.

Okay, I’ve gotta share.

Got a call today from a volunteer working for Alvin Brown, Democratic mayoral candidate, and after talking to him for a few minutes he offered me a job on the campaign.

I got a job!

Still absolutely blown away that they gave me a job and thanked me for coming to work for them. Gawd, I love politics and now I’m in a position to try to make a real difference.

Anyway, like I said, I just had to share this.

P.S. ~ If you’re in Jacksonville, FL look up Alvin Brown. He’s a really good candidate and I’m not just saying that because he gave me a job (well, maybe I’m saying that just a little bit).

» Posted By squeezed On February 25, 2011 @ 3:47 pm

I get that and I agree but I also believe we could be inspired by a real leader. We need a leader to organize behind or it will just be random protests that the MSM will refuse to cover.

At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I am truly beginning to feel oppressed by my government. Not Patriot Act oppressed, that was bad, but this is worse.

People have lost their jobs, they’ve endured cuts in pay and benefits, lost their homes and for those us with jobs, the fear of losing our jobs and the pressure from the upper floor feels down right hostile.

Combine the untenable and unbearable adversity that was thrust upon us by the greed of banks and politicians and CEO’s with the cruel cuts and austerity measures they are trying to impose, and it truly feels oppressive, like a weight on your chest suffocating the life out of you.

The Right literally hates everybody and the Left will not stand up and shout them down. We need our President to step up, to live up to the standards he set for himself. We need help. The middle class and the poor need help and we damn well deserve it!

Since we’re discussing Hitler, hind sight can often feel like a cruel joke.

Well, hon, that was her problem, not yours. Ignorance and racism are afflictions of the soul.

People like that just do not care if they’re bigotries hurt other people. Actually, let me rephrase that. They don’t care that they hurt other people because their superiority complexes support their bigotries.

You just made a good argument for teaching our kids critical thinking skills as priority one.

I just feel that every worker, regardless of their employer, deserves the right to defend their wages and their benefits.

Public employees may work for us in the standard definition of the term ‘public’ but they are directly supervised and governed by politicians. Public unions are the civilian version of checks and balances of government authority and power over the people, which includes the average government employee.

Teachers, cops, nurses, firemen, et al, should have a seat at the table when it comes to safety, curriculum, regulations, rules, etc., that affect their particular fields. I wouldn’t want to be a teacher and have to sit passively by as government made every decision regarding class size, curriculum, and funding.

Never seen it performed live. I love Shakespeare, especially his comedies.

His prose is beautiful. Did you know that studies of his plays and writings indicate that Shakespeare had a working vocabulary of over 66,000 words which is amazing considering the time period and the lack of education available for the average person in the 16th century.

I did as evidenced by my avatar addition. Thanks for the tips. You’re good people.

» Posted By squeezed On February 24, 2011 @ 4:50 pm

Fair enough. Propaganda has always been a useful tool for manipulating the masses.

Even those of us who feel like we’re immune to influence are susceptible. Vigilance, abby. We must be vigilant and push back against those who would desire to influence us to do harm or who would want us to be passive as harm is inflicted.

Yay, got my avatar up. I feel so much better seeing myself, well not me really, but you know what I mean.

Question: Is the O/T link where you guys mainly hang? Just found this place and am still stumbling about trying to figure it out.

» Posted By squeezed On February 24, 2011 @ 4:39 pm

Hitler is synonymous with evil but I don’t think the comparison is fairly imposed in most cases.

A lot of people out there are jack asses, but are they Hitler? I don’t think so.

He’s as smug as anyone who has their own HBO series would be, I guess. I still like his show, but mostly for the guests and his New Rule segments.

He makes me cringe sometimes, especially lately when he goes all xenophobic about Muslims.

» Posted By squeezed On February 24, 2011 @ 4:34 pm

I couldn’t even bring myself to click. Love Maher’s show but sometimes his commentary is a little too, what’s the word, oh yeah, bigoted.

His views on Islam are not helping.
