Will Abortion Debate be Democrats Civil War?

Thanks, Adlib, for posting the poll!!

» Posted By nicole473 On November 11, 2009 @ 5:11 am

Yes, I agree. Never spanked mine, and they are fine, upstanding young men. Self esteem intact.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 7:40 pm

Makes me think of spanking. I have never understood the reasoning behind that either.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 7:18 pm

Well said, Monk!!

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 7:17 pm

We think alike, Kalima. 😆

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 7:11 pm

TY!!

1. Do you currently have health insurance?

2. Would you be willing to pass on universal health care if the Stupak amendment is not removed from the final bill?

3. Have you read the Stupak amendment?

Good morning, Kalima!!

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 6:49 pm

All are welcome. Now is fine. We set it up for occasions such as this.

Yeah, that’s right, go ahead and drive us all freaking crazy wondering what the hell you’re talking about, HITO!! 😉

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 6:28 pm

KQuark,

Can you possibly add a poll to your post? I am interested in learning a few things about those of us debating this issue, if that doesn’t sound too weird. 😆

Let me know, and I’ll explain what I have in mind.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 6:26 pm

Hey, Grab……you can do the RSS thing to make it easy. 😆

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 6:22 pm

Good night, javaz.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 6:19 pm

Well said, KQ. I feel pretty much the same as you and Kalima do.

I have always thought that those who are most religious have the least real concern for their fellow man, and their hypocrisy makes me ashamed to a part of the same species at times.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 6:15 pm

Disgusting, isn’t it? A modern, industrialized country and even our veterans die from lack of health care.

Thanks, bito, for pointing that out.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 6:05 pm

Without the influence of the American Taliban, we would all be soooo much better off.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 6:04 pm

But if they’re determined to do it, they will do it with or without this amendment/bill.

I would love to see this amendment kicked to the curb, but I am not willing to see the bill go down because of it.

Yes, I agree, a woman’s right to choose is important. But, is it more important than providing health care to all those who currently don’t have it (including myself and my son)? Too many people die from lack of it.

ps…i didn’t explain myself very well here. I have to go out, but i’ll try to clarify later.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 3:33 pm

I agree. BUT, women don’t have coverage for elective abortion now in most cases.

The Stupak amendment doesn’t prevent coverage for non-elective abortion.

Far from ideal, but not worth losing the bill over.

45,000 people die annually from lack of HC insurance.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 3:29 pm

Yeah. Damn religious hypocrites in the middle of public policy. ooooh, this stuff makes me so maddd, javaz, I just want to kick some ass! Preferably those in robes and collars.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 3:15 pm

It just makes me want to send them all to a deserted island in the middle of a large body of water, no communication with the rest of us. Let Lord of the Flies ensue………

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 3:13 pm

Not me. They constantly insert themselves in to political issues and I’m just freaking tired of it. If we started moving to tax them, maybe they would finally decide to shut the hell up. (probably unrealistic, but hey, one can dream)

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 3:10 pm

For me, that still isn’t a deal-breaker, even though I think it’s asinine.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 3:08 pm

Agree. I wish to hell we’d begin taxing the churches.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 2:57 pm

Yup. It’s freaking maddening.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 2:54 pm

They’re not referring to elective abortion, though, javaz.

And the Stupak amendment does permit coverage of non-elective abortion.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 2:51 pm

As far as I can determine, it covers it if the mother’s health is endangered. I am not sure if it covers it in the case of mental illness, etc.. That would be a good thing to know.

I have to say, though, that abortion could easily be funded through planned parenthood, and made freely available for any reason……if we wanted to do that. I would definitely be in support of such a plan.

I wouldn’t support losing universal health care over the abortion issue, however.

» Posted By nicole473 On November 10, 2009 @ 2:48 pm

The truth is that most private insurance policies don’t cover ANY elective procedures, which means they don’t currently cover abortion that is elective. On the other hand, most private insurance does cover abortion done for health reasons or in the case of rape or incest.

The cost of abortion, as you pointed out, is relatively low, and because of that, and because non-elective abortion will still be covered under the Stupak amendment, those of us who are pragmatic are thinking this is not such a bad thing. It is, of course, far from ideal, but it is not a deal breaker for the pragmatists, which includes myself.

The far left, and some of those who simply don’t understand, however, are making this in to a huge big freaking deal.

Unless I am missing something, I don’t feel it.
